Los Alamitos for Saturday 17 December 2016

Card seems quite good so I sure hope we get an even surface for today. Be back with you for closing day tomorrow.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

4  Garrapata Beach   Mark Glatt is stout with laid up sprinters and he sure places this gelding low enough to have a very good opportunity to succeed

7  Anytime Magic   six-year-old consistently has able to run faster than 52 flat on the small oval at Los Al.......and is well proven at 5F on larger ovals.......should fit fine here if he holds form

6  In Control   high % trainer with claimers and especially with those running off of 46 to 90 days rest (7 for his last 16) ......62 days since this gelding last raced......dangerous sort

10  Parliamentarian

race 2    average clarity

3  Sircat Sally   crushed in her MSW debut and a solid 6F drill at LA since.....in fact she has always trained well at LA and gets to stay home for her 1st at a route......so so pedigree to handle one but a trainer in Hollendorfer who knows what it takes conditioning wise to get the two turns

1  Ms Wakaya   lifetime best was at 7F and the effort is better than appears in print......only one more furlong to handle today and his pedigree to get the two turns is decent

5  How About Zero   toss out his last as debris was flying around as the winds were wild during the race which would discourage many older horses little lone a two-year old.....and like our 2nd choice his best to date was at 7F

race 3    average clarity

1  Barbara Jo   not much in both lifetime starts which took place last May.......but returns in a maiden claimer with a much more accomplished trainer........and Baffert means business as the works are very solid......my guess is Baffert agreed to train the horse if the connections were willing to place him where he should succeed

7  Forthe Lovof Patty   ran a decent race in a MSW affair at Lrc way back in April.....been away since and drops likely to enhance his chances of competing on a surface that he trains on and has run well on

8  Tawny   maiden debut seems useful.......the kind of MC debut that likely was needed and strong enough that a forward move of 4 or more lengths can make him a player today

3  Maxnella

race 4    above average clarity

6  Princess Tiznow   so much the best here if he runs anywhere close to his last which was rather amazing........dueled wide on both turns coping with decent fractions and still managed 2nd......needs to fall off form not to be very tough here

2  Empress Suiko   nice forward move in 2nd lifetime start and now drops into MC from MSW racing........and considering there was no support at the windows in either lifetime endeavors I would surmise this filly was always pointed for today's drop MSW sprint - MSW sprint - MC route

8  Angel On Point   dangerous if wakes up running in her 1st dirt race after 6 straight turf races.......OK pedigree for the dirt.....and of course the drop should help

4  Golden Mamba

race 5    average clarity

3  Success Rate   seems like a good claim by Carava and company of a 6-year-old gelding in sharp form who owns a win and a second in two races on the Lrc surface.......and he has been in the exacta in 3 of 4 races at the distance

2  Luckarack   turf to dirt today and with a solid 5F drill showing since the grass race.......likely feeling good.....and sure runs well at the distance.....as in 4 win in 6 attempts

4  El Koreano   slipping off of form so Puype gives his recent claim some extra time between starts......might be poised for a rebound........and........at a track and distance that both suit him well

6  Boone Docks

race 6    average clarity

5  Forest Blue   blinkers off and a significant drop for this Peter Miller runner......Miller even enters for 22.5K to get 2 lbs off.......hard to ignore anything that the gutsy trainer drops multiple levels

2  Jimmy the Juice   very big race dirt route to dirt sprint three races back.......might be even better today turf route to dirt sprint with the way the grass can muscle up a given horse

1  Big Champion   a win and two 2nd's in three lifetime dirt races with the blinkers on.....just claimed by O'Neill and it seems like a good one.....we shall see

8  Pete's Play Call

Long-shot consideration:   9  Zarqa Star   Aguirre/Puglisi used to be a solid combination......but definitely not in the last 60 days (0 for 18).....seems overdue to snap out of it ......maybe today with this runner who had his layoff gimme and should be at full throttle for his go today dropping into claiming

race 7    above average clarity

4  Americanize   lone lifetime race way back in June at SA was a 1 1/4 length 2nd in a very fast heat of MSW runners........returns with a dynamite work tab and as a 1st time gelding......all systems go for another strong race

10  Lord Simba   another Baffert laid up runner with only one lifetime start which like our top choice was a 2nd place debut run.......but in this case he has only been away since early September.....and like our top selection he is working as if this is no tune-up

9  Gosofar   yet another individual coming off a layoff and this case a very long one.....as in 17 months........returns as a 1st time gelding with a solid work series......and he went off at 7 to 5 in his MSW......Kitchingman runner trains like he has some early gas which can come in handy breaking from the 9 post

3  Scorpious

race 8    average clarity

4  Indygo Holiday   both races at Lrc are solid especially his latest which was run 2 races back.......does his best with contact to the front end of things and that seems highly likely in this spot

2  Curlin Road   1 for 2 at Lrc and he has been in the exacta 3 of the 4 times when he has competed at the distance.......and he should get what he likes as in a nice ground saving mid pack position.........at least thru turn one

1  Hoffenheim   all three lifetime route dirt races on fast tracks fit in this spot if of course he is fully ready off of the extended hiatus from the game....works seem good enough.......but....... he appreciates the SA dirt and the purse money is better......so....this might be a tune-up......tough call

3  Mishegas...

race 9    average clarity

10  California Chrome   wins this affair with his "A game" by plenty.......wins with his "B game" by daylight......might be beatable in the unlikely case he brings only his "C game" in this special race in his honor

7  Avanti Bello   very consistent sort has hit the board in his last 7 dirt route races.......and his last effort might be his strongest effort and disguised by running very wide and near the pace

4  Point Piper   not as consistent as our 2nd selection but his top-level seems slightly better when he brings his best

1  Howdy

5  Ain't Misbehavin
