Santa Anita for Sunday 1 January 2017

Drying out track so keep a keen eye on how it effects the track.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Gust   layoff drop downs training well from the Miller barn are tough to hot rider/trainer combo in Baze and Miller......hard not to like "fresh" filly who is dropping a couple of MC levels

2  She Has Charm   takes take ever magical drop from MSW racing to mid priced maiden claiming.....and the best ever for this filly was the only time she sprinted in her career

3  Summertimemischief   another exiting the MSW ranks for an easier go of it in a maiden claimer......last is a very strong effort/fig at Lrc and with moisture in the track.....placed 3rd mostly because the jockey isn't exactly a top-tier rider in S Cal racing

race 2    average clarity

(if off of the turf   2-7-5-4-8)

1  Sweet Charity   very consistent four-year old filly in France sure should be tough here if she if fully fit for today's 1st ever endeavor in the good old U S of A.......and the grass with a little give in it should be a plus and won't be for many in here

2  Untouchable U   on the improve since the blinkers were taken off........race lacks speed so that can play into the hands of this five-year old mare coming off of a strong 9F effort.......rate it about a 75% shot that this mare shakes free early

8  Lilly Kai   runs well with ample time between starts and her trainer shows patience and gives it to her......does well in the stalk or mid pack position and she has a decent shot of getting one of the two in this spot

6  Dressed to a T

race 3    average clarity

3  Glacken Too   believe he suites the SA dirt the best and he is coming off a good winning race at Dmr.......just claimed by Hollendorfer and working as if Jerry has a good handle on his new shooter

6  Wildfire Kid   had a heck of a 2016 on the dirt both on fast and off tracks.......just claimed by the red-hot Peter Miller so 2017 might start where 2016 left off

1  Too Fast to Pass   last 4 fast track efforts sprinting at SA have produced 2 wins and 2 2nd's......and Jeff Mullins has him nicely cranked with a strong recent 5F drill on the SA training track......tough post but not as much for an off pace type like this fellow

7  Celebrated Talent

race 4    average clarity

5  Bolitar   very well prepared in the a.m. as I imagine the connections believe they might lose this colt today.......drop makes are good......1 for 2 at the distance

8  Basinca   double barrel action from O'Neill as he also trains our top selection........seems like an overdue drop......back to Bejarano who has fit this gelding well in the recent past

7  Last One Standing   good history when Pena rides (4 1 2 0 1).......appreciates contact with the front end of things and gets it

1  Big Energy

race 5    average clarity

3  Got Even    very sharp best of 110 4F work has this route speed horse on edge for a strong effort hopefully like his effort 2 an aggressive rider such as Pedroza on this fellow who he wants a loose lead to relax and wire the field........does his best racing on the SA dirt

8  Poshsky   Peter Miller remains on fire (especially when Arroyo rides) and sends out this now 7-year-old gelding who ran a solid dirt effort two back running turf to dirt like today....he also ran well with the same maneuver on 16 April.......another dangerous runner for Miller and company

2  Madiba   last two races fit decently......runs well fresh off of the bench and that is the case today having been away for two months and 2 days

5  Ike Walker

Long-shot consideration:   1  Secreto Primero   vastly improved works of late and the last time he ran turf to dirt he ran a good race and it is rather hidden........gelding has only been up for a tag once in his career and it was a win

race 6    average clarity

(if off of the turf  5-11-2-6)

6  Formulate   bad trip in latest running way too wide having to deal with a tough post.......last win was his last time he was up for a tag........1 for 1 with today's rider Bejarano up........0 for 6 with other jocks

11  All Call   appreciates the 9 furlongs of turf and a few in here might not......seems likely to finnish up well which is usually a good thing on a good or yielding turf like we shall see today

2  Malko   two straight decent turf races at one mile albeit vs. easier.......should appreiate another furlong of ground and a grass course with some give to it

5  Infobedad

race 7    below average clarity

5  True Appeal   only cost chump change at sale so I sure like the step up in maiden claiming price for this colt who didn't have the best of trips in his debut.....and since that debut he worked a best of 104 bullet drill......should move forward with hopefully a better trip this go around

6  Red Carpet   1st time starter from the Belvoir barn seems to be sharpening when it counts the most as in right before his debut into the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing

10  Pundy   hottest barn around.....solid drills for a 1st time starter.......and.......Espinoza and his agent want the mount and they have been rather choosy the last 2 or 3 months.......and with good success

4  Gentrified

long-shot consideration:   3  Passed by Paul   nowheresville in two lifetime races.....but......given some time off......gelded......taking the blinkers off......drills are night and day better......lets hope that carries over to the afternoon.....should be a big price with a low % jock named

race 8    above average clarity

5  Arrogate   beat the best horse on the planet fair and square in his last.......last two figs are off the charts.....Baffert is winless at the new meeting so far but I doubt that will be the case after today

3  Dalmore   3 for 3 at the distance.......0 for 11 at other distances.......likely gets a decent stalk positon.......connections will have their fingers crossed that the 4 and the 5 press the issue too hard early on

4  Midnight Storm    dangerous speed if the track still has some moisture in it and/or a rail bias develops with a drying out surface

race 9    average clarity

(if off of the turf  6-4-14-2-13-3)

6  Bobby G   solid 1st ever on the grass in last........should be tough here if he gets a little better trip and repeats the effort

4  Panama Papers   solid NY invader winds up in the Miller barn for his 1st run on the West Coast......ran well in his MSW debut so I doubt that he will have trouble running off of 3 month break especially with Mr. Miller doing the training

11  Ice Kat   1st time Bejarano for Baltas is usually noteworthy (on the positive side) and especially so for a route horse

13 AE  Glacier

9  South American

2  Cedar Rapids

3  Sergio
