Santa Anita for Saturday 21 January 2017

Smart move by Santa Anita not to card any grass races today. Seems like a decent race card even with an off track likely. NOTE:  SUNDAY RACING HAS BEEN CANCELED

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Melanistic   just popped her best work in quite a while hinting she is bringing her "A game" which will make her dangerous in this spot........if the track comes up off it will be her 1st on one......so that ? still needs to be answered

4  Miz Graycee   nice awakening in his latest.......seems deserving of today's multiple step up.........has won on an off track in the past and it was at SA and at a route

3  Josephine's Moment   so so effort albeit versus tougher sprinting in her latest on an off track......needs more today but might provide it as she is 3 for 5 at the distance

race 2    average clarity

4  Scathing   last appears to be a gimme (went off 36 to 1) in a protected race to be at full throttle 2nd out after the long layoff in a low-priced claimer.....and this filly can handle an off track

6  Hurricaine Callie   last is an OK effort but likely needs more this afternoon to hit pay dirt......putting the blinkers back on today after two races without them hints Miller wants the bug boy to go to the lead and never look back.......seems like another good move from the sharp Miller barn

1  Sheswildnfree   very consistent sort and gets a rider upgrade......but.....she needs to overcome a tendency to hang in the stretch and handle an off track better than she did in her lone run on one

race 3    average clarity

5  She Has Charm   won for fun on a mud floated off track in her latest at SA albeit benefiting from a rail speed day.......but she likely feels good for today's race coming off such a seemingly stress free race.......proven on a SA off track......most likely leader.......should be tough

2  Spindle   seems like a decent claim by Morey as this filly like our top pick also won for fun in her last to break her maiden......and her previous effort on an off track is even better......believe she will get a nice stalk position or might even find the front end......usually a good thing in off tracks

3  Hayley's Comment   last appears to be a gimme.......back in short rest and the only time this filly got to run off of short rest she ran the best race of her career......might surprise and at a price

1  Reckless Charm

race 4    average clarity

4  Princess Ashlyn   never much on a fast dirt surface at SA.......but.......she just popped a much better than par 6 1/2F sprint at SA on an off track......and she drops some.......and she put in a very solid 5F work since her last.....should be a ton if she holds form

7  Sharp Holiday   handled an off track nicely in her latest......gets a rider upgrade today......and seems likely to get a good stalk position or might even wind up with the lead........dangerous for sure

5  Rockantharos   blinkers go back on today likely to enhance this girl's chances of getting the early lead......the only time she opened up a loose lead she won.....that makes her somewhat dangerous

6  Really a Gem

race 5    above average clarity

1  Finest City   this Grade 2 came up very weak so that makes this winner of the Breeders Cup F & M sprint race which was also at 7F very tough if she handles her 1st ever on an off track.....her pedigrees to handle one is quite good

2  Bad Ju Ju   shooting for her 4th straight win and her last win was on an off track.....but will need a significant improvement to take down this Grade 2 unless of course the top choice falters

4  Fantastic Style   sure appears to need a loose lead to win when competing as far as 7F or she is likely to cash it in rather easily......not impossible if she gets the lead and the off track winds up being friendly to early speed

race 6    average clarity

2  Surfside Tiara   laid up Hollendorfer filly has worked some very good-looking 5F and 6F works at LA......seems meant and ready off of the 8 month layoff.......and she seemingly will get a lively pace up front to flatter her mid pack running style as there appears to be four foes in here who will go after the lead

1  Lucky Folie   another laid up filly who is working as if she is meant and ready fresh off of the bench......and that makes sense as she usually knocks her self out physically speaking and needs months off to get back to the track......and she sure has owns a strong pedigree to handle on off track

6  Lily Pod   2 for 2 at SA and 0 for 9 elsewhere and she won both of the SA races by more than 3L......dangerous if she can run as well on a SA surface with moisture in it

4  Ponder Lea

race 7    average clarity

2  Palmer's Way   best set of works for a Miller 1st time starter in many a moon........Espinoza's lone mount of the day.......solid new sire in Gemologist.......red hot barn.......should be tough unless the off going bothers him

4  Battle of Midway   another 1st timer who appears meant and ready in his MSW debut and for a trainer in Hollendorfer who is better than most with 1sters.......and this colt she owns a pedigree that should handle the goo

7  Town Champ   yet another who seemingly is ready for his debut.....like that his two best drills showing are out of the gate......and like our 2nd selection he sure is bred to handle the off going

1  Bronze Age

race 8    average clarity

8  Bolita Boyz   last run in the slop set up for him with plenty of pace provided by the leaders.......believe the same scenario for today and he has another 1/2 furlong to work with to catch the leaders

7  Alley Boss   following two consecutive wide margin wins one of which was on an off track he set a strong pace in the slop and did it on a dull inside......in cost him and it would for just about anyone......that hidden effort should help his price this afternoon

11  Twirling Tiger  last two dirt endeavors are vastly better than appear in print......but he has yet to prove himself on an off track and Prat winds up on our top selection.......but Elliot has looked good competing on the many off tracks we have had the last 3 or 4 weeks......so ..........this gelding still can be a major factor in the outcome of this race

10  Americanize

Long-shot consideration:  12 Top Fortitude   by far his lifetime two best races were the only time he competed on sloppy racetracks at Santa Anita.......so if the track is indeed off he can be a factor in the outcome of this race

race 9    average clarity

10  Big Bad Jon   leaped forward in his latest (and the effort is somewhat hidden) on his first ever competing on an off surface.......back in 19 days and with a decent work (and on an off track) since.....definitely the one to beat on an off track if he holds form which I obviously believe that he will

6  Mintenized   beat our top choice in his last but was outside on a day the rail was a little dull and that is where our top choice found himself.......trainer has had a tough time in S Cal but so far he is doing OK at the new meeting (3 0 1 1).....cut back of 1/2 furlong seems like a plus

3  Solar Zone   blinkers on for this Stute runner and a bullet 3F work since his last.......that hints the equipment change has helped.......this fellow has been routing so if he finds himself in the mix in the late stages he should have the stamina to battle hard to the wire

5  Jackson Teller

2  Little Mustard

8  Tanzor
