Santa Anita for Thursday 26 January 2017

Saturday's Santa Anita selections will be posted by 6 a.m. Pacific Time to help accommodate those who want to wager on the Gulfstream card as well. As far as our special Pegasus publication is concerned here are the races that we cover: 3, 5, 7 thru 12. 3rd race post time at GP is 12:30 Eastern/9:30 Pacific.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Bella Be Quick   ran 2nd in the off track in his latest in an OK effort.....but her debut 2 back on a fast track was impressive and hidden by a bad trip......two reassuring works since......suns back  at SA

5  Good N Naughty   horrid breaking from the 1 one post in two of her three lifetime races.......very solid race in the other breaking from the outside like she is today.......and I like that Palma worked her out of the gate since her last where she ducked in and dumped the rider

7  Run Scout Run   useful debut and a major league rider upgrade for her 2nd lifetime start......could be dangerous with a logical forward move

1  Sassy Rose

race 2    average clarity

4  Princess Julia   very strong quite a bit better than par move forward in her 2nd lifetime start and 1st at SA.......Hollendorfer is heating things up.......seems likely to make a good account of herself once again

6  Kenda   bet fairly hard at the windows in her debut and showed plenty of life......did awfully well to finish a 5 beaten lengths 4th with the journey she had.......bad start and rushed and was caught a little wide on the turn.....5 works since and a new jock gets a shot......lookout if this filly gets it right in her 2nd lifetime endeavor

5  Paradise Woods   Mandella is only average at best with MSW 1st timers (likely by design) but he appears to have this 1st timer cranked up and ready to roll off of some sharp a.m. work

race 3    average clarity

5  Image of Joplin   lifetime best and a race that should take this field down was run at SA 3 races back and at one mile on the dirt....... that effort was run off of 23 days rest........27 days since his last and a very sharp near bullet drill ( 2 of 93 at 4F).......seems very dangerous

1  Mon Mousse   improving sort got away with very easy fractions to wire the field at today's one mile distance versus easier at GG.......sharp drill since......might feel really good coming off of what was likely a very stress free race run up North

6  Jonny's Choice   best on conventional dirt and he has only missed the board once at today's distance ( 10 4 3 2)........just claimed by Gary Stute who has won with 23% of his last 22 1st efforts following a claim......and his new shooter shows his best drill in quite some time since the claim

race 4    average clarity

6  Venezuelan Gold   won a cheap maiden claimer to start her career in a race in Florida despite a brutal trip......winds up in the hot Miller barn and it appears the sharp conditioner has a good handle on his new shooter as he got her to work a very fast 5F gate work at Slr.....needs more than her unsettled winning debut and I believe she will bring it

3  Rally Back  good winning debut and then ran even better in her 2nd start.........if she repeats her last which was the 26 Dec. version of today's race she should have been placed on top.......but.......placed as 2nd choice because she only shows 2 dull works since

1  Tawny   might need a little more than her last and has a decent chance of providing it as she comes off of such an easy likely stress-free 9L win........only mount of the day for Van Dyke

race 5    average clarity

5  Super Touch   runs well with ample time between starts and gets it........seems to have caught a soft looking group and might be able to snatch the early lead......decent speed rider remains up

4  Southern Keys   layoff last might have been nothing more that a public workout......if that is the case lookout today on the drop out of MSW racing in his 2nd out following the 9+ month layoff

2  Pageau   decent works especially for Keith Desormeaux who often doesn't push his 1st timers too hard in the morning.......and I like the way new to the scene apprentice Ruben Fuentes looks on a horse

1  Geologist

race 6    average clarity

7  Street Goddess    very solid effort/fig taking into consideration today's new bottom 6,250 level (hey you have to fill races) at Lrc in latest.....claimed in the race by a 25% trainer from an 7% trainer.......seems very ready off of a sharp 5F drill at GG only 5 days ago

1  Audra   seems best at SA and seems best at today's six furlongs.........in need of a drop and unexpectedly gets one down below the 8K level.........should be motoring late

8  Fab Four Ever   obviously has some physical issues but if you are going to drop a given runner way down in claiming price doing so off of a long layoff like we have here is the time to do it before you tip your hat as to what condition your horse is in

3  Warren's Tricia R.

race 7    below average clarity

2  Zuzu's Petals   awfully consistent including at today's 6 furlong distance.....toss out latest as she definitely appeared to dislike the off going and maybe her connections knew she wouldn't as there wasn't any support at the windows.......race two back is strong......believe she rebounds today.....how close to that effort 2 back is the question mark

6  Ready to Hula Lula   good conditioner with laid off speed types and that is the case here with this speedy filly who has been away for 2 months.......Mr. Prat gets the call and he sure has adjusted to American racing .....as in knowing how to win on a speed type

3  Lemon Orchid   all three lifetime dirt sprints are decent and run at 5 1/2F......still training well and acts as if another furlong to travel today will be to her liking....not out of this by any means if that is the case

4  Time for Ebby

race 8    below average clarity

7  Wildfire Kid   last is better than appears in print (caught wide on in inside biased day) ........and...... the claiming level for this Miller seven-year old has been cut in half......and Mr. Miller is dynamite with multi-level claiming drops

5  Where Y'at Joe Joe   3 of his last 4 races fit and his latest is somewhat disguised........and his off the pace style sure fits in this spot with 4 or 5 horses capable of getting the lead......and he appears to be racing at his favorite distance

6  Last One Standing   good history when Pena rides (5 1 3 0 1).......appreciates contact with the front end of things and might get that here......at what cost seems to be the question mark

2  Royal F J

9  Sudden Sam

3  London Legacy
