Santa Anita for Saturday 28 January 2017

Just have one thing to say about today's nice card as in I sure hope Peter Miller keeps the good times rolling.

Best of luck as always!

race 12 at Gulfstream Park

G1  $12,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Invitational  1 1/8 dirt

1  Arrogate   4 lbs weight shift in the "Chrome's" favor but the post draw is greatly in this fellow's favor.....Mr Money remains up and you have to like that he has options because like our 2nd selection this stellar colt in capable of winning on or off of the pace

12  California Chrome   the world's most accomplished active horse sure has his work cut out for him drawing the outer-most 12 post......so far at the GP meeting in races at one mile or further posts 9 thru 14 are 2 for 81.....but then again they aren't California the magnificent Chrome

3  Neolithic   two for two at GP and sure has improved since the blinkers were put on.......seems like the new kid in town with some upside especially considering Pletcher is winning at a 36% rate at the GP meeting

7  Shaman Ghost

9 Keen Ice

race 1    average clarity

3  And Then Some   seems at his best running on the SA surface and he also appears to be better suited to sprinting.....and his latest sprint is disguised by a tardy start and a wide trip.....reassurring work since

6  Via Fermato   beat a very weak field to graduate but by 7 lengths..........and he has a decent shot at moving forward 2nd out after the layoff as he was able to move forward nicely in his second lifetime start......20 days rest then.......run off of 15 days rest this go around

4  True Ranger   so far he has been at his best at 5 1/2 furlongs with a win and a close 2nd in two efforts at the distance.........would have liked to have seen a work since his latest especially with the claim and all........might have considered placing him higher if he had worked

race 2    average clarity

2  Enola Gray   shows up every time in a big way including in her lone race down the majestic SA hill turf course where she had to deal with a blistering 2nd quarter and still won like a good thing

4  All That Heat   short on numbers but might be in the driver's seat if our top choice and 3rd choice and maybe someone else push things too hard early........Prat should stalk or sit mid pack likely saving ground......dangerous "trip" contender

1  Desert Steel   needs her "A game" and maybe slightly more as she brought it two races back versus our top choice and still was defeated by a length .........might be more dangerous if Bejarano takes her back some which she is capable of doing

7  Smooth It

race 3    average clarity

4  Table for Three   D'Amato has won with 10 of his last 20 with the sprint - route - sprint manuveur.......and that is the case here........three year old filly has run better in both lifetime sprints than it appears on the printed page/screen.....and she might be nicely muscled up coming off a grass route

3  All of a Sudden   poor start in her MSW debut and then showed plenty of desire on a sloppy racetrack grabbing a fast closing 3rd and only missing the top prize by 1/2 length......two reassuring works since.......if she handles a fast track as well as an off one and makes a logical move forward she will be a major player in this affair

5  Queen Bee to You   not too hot at running good back to back races but if she does this time around and gets a better trip than her brutal journey she had to deal with in her last...... she........will....... be....... tough

race 4    average clarity

6  Pequena Maty   decent effort/time versus slightly easier at GG in her debut where she wound up a close 2nd......good 4F drill at GG since......1st on the dirt but trained fine on it at Pln prior to shipping to GG

1  Party Gal   not much in MSW debut in what might have been a dirty her up gimme to drop into maiden claiming with less threat of a claim........the D'A is a dangerous 27% win MSW to maiden claiming........ and with many of those wins coming off of weak MSW debuts

3  Gypsy Ju Ju   likely needs a little more than either of her lifetime starts........might provide it as she has perked up some in the a.m.........and the improvement is somewhat subtle

7  Ministers Curl

race 5    average clarity

9  Sircat Sally   crushed her competition in both lifetime starts and earned a figure on the dirt that is very impressive........and her a.m. work in preparation for today's 1st on the grass hints she has remained very sharp........as for her turf pedigree it is a little unproven on the sire side or this race would be rated "above average clarity"

5  Adios Cali   bet fairly hard in her MSW and did not disappoint winning at 2 to 1 odds.......solid time/fig for a MSW race and supported by 2nd coming back to win......good pedigree for a turf route......likely will still need a little more today than her debut but the way in which Miller has been going the last 3 months or so I'd say she is more likely to give it than not

8  My Pi Romancer   definitely on the right end of the learning curve and she is well proven on the sod where as our top two selections are not......Prat remains up for a fifth straight time so he knows this youngster well and by my book Prat is the best grass jock in S Cal with young grass horses

4  Bella Luna

Long-shot consideration:   3  How About Zero   horrid trip in lone grass race tiring herself early by jumping debris on the 1st turn while running wide......toss it out.......lifetime best (a solid $200K Stakes win/fig) was the last time this filly had an equipment change to blinkers on......blinkers off today to shake things up......might surprise at a handsome price

race 6    above average clarity

2  Jimmy Bouncer   horrendous trip in the slop in last that can be tossed out......and besides this fellow is undefeated in 4 main track races on fast surfaces.......and he is 3 for 3 at today's six panels......easy for yours truly to place as top selection

1  Solid Wager   at his best on the SA dirt......and this late runner seemingly will get plenty pace up front to flatter his late running style.......and he is conditioned by Peter Miller who impressively has been hot for the last 10 weeks or so

5  Well Measured   might be a good claim by Baltas of an individual that appears to be making a rebound of sorts......and if he is lookout as he ran a 108:2 in 2016 and a 122 flat in 2015......those efforts fit here if his new trainer can get similar out of him today

6  Acceptance

race 7    above average clarity

1  Ashleyluvssugar   one heck of a nice Cal bred in open company gets to face his own kind today with a top grass rider and favorable post......also a favorable pace scenario....... and.......a blistering drill put in one week ago.......should be tough to overcome

7  He Will   improving sort acts as if he will appreciate the longest race of his life today.......and he is training as if he can run his lifetime best.......top connections in Hollendorfer/Bejarano at the helm.........so if this 5-year-old does fire his top effort and finds the 9 furlongs to his liking he just might upset the apple cart

3  Ralis   owns quite a few efforts that make him very dangerous here but he will need faster fractions up front than I anticipate will occur in this affair.....not out of this if I am wrong about my assessment of the pace that will be set

6  What a View

race 8    average clarity

6  Aldrin   T C Baze and Peter Miller have won 6 of their last 10 teaming up......tossing out all 4 races since Miller took over the training of this 5 year old......his last was way too far for this fellow.....in his previous three raceshe showed no positive response to the blinkers being on.......blinkers off today and a distance he can handle....but more importantly a series of long works that are impressive....big form reversal might occur today

5  Madiba   disliked the off going in his latest......races two and three back run on fast rated SA surfaces versus better fit fine.......and the effort run on Oct. 30th is somewhat disguised by some trip trouble

1  Prime Attraction   last two races fit just fine versus today's competition........so......if he is up for a 3rd straight strong race in a row I might have rated his fanny too low

4  Dadtaughtmewell

race 9    average clarity

5  California Diamond   what a machine as today's race is this youngster's 10 race since starting his career in mid June ....that is a lot for a baby to say the least.....but Miller has gotten 5 wins and 4 2nd's and a boatload of earnings from his now 3-year-old colt......4 for 4 at SA.......Desormeaux knows him well.....hard not to put as top selection

4  Hot Smoke   shows up every time but has been hurt by bad trips in his last two endeavors......Joe Talamo needs to do better...... like the trip he gave this Diodoro runner 3 races back

2  Ann Arbor Eddie   on the right end of the learning curve and if that continues today he has a shot at back to back wins this afternoon.....and.......he beat our top two selections in his latest.....but.........a word of caution.....he had a good trip and now carries 6 more lbs. and do so when the 5 has the same weight and the 4 carries only 2 more lbs.

7  Coils Gold

race 10    below average clarity

6  Panama Papers   slow runners inside this colt who owns tactical speed gives him a good shot to get on over and save some ground at least thru turn one.....and if that occurs he should be tough for Peter Miller and friends with the cut back in distance

11  Bird is the Word   very strong grass race in his lone try on the turf......but he gets a killer post......he is in very capable hands.......as in Kent Desormeaux .........if Kent can produce some magic and work out an OK trip this coltis the one to beat if he gives the same effort on the turf that he gave before

1  Pavelski   last appeared to be a public work out of sorts to muscle up this D'Amato colt as only a race can do sometimes to be fully fit for today's turf route........Prat remaining up supports the notion.......good post and a good turf rider........we should find out what this youngster has in him today
