Santa Anita for Thursday 2 February 2017

Seems like a smart move by Santa Anita carding some nice races now and then to finish off a race card instead of just another maiden 20K claimer. It is a refreshing change that most likely keeps people from leaving early at the track or at the OTB's.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  A. P. Zone   drop into maiden claiming makes sense as this colt has only earned 9K with 5 starts dating back to August........last might be nothing more than a dirty up his form gimme to put some doubt into the minds of the claiming vultures.......race two back appears very strong versus today's easier foes

5  Tiz Indy   decent MC debut..... so..... the connections stepped this youngster up one level where he caught an off track and chased a brutal pace and cashed it they drop him below where he started his career.......two nice works since his last.....T C Baze sticks around for a 3rd straight time

3  Red Carpet Cat   decent MC debut and the effort is disguised by a slow start and running a bit wide on a day the rail was golden.......and he drops one level........Bejarano remains up.......definitely seems like a major player here

4  Rainbow Squall

race 2    average clarity

5  Burn Me Twice   blinkers put on for his 2nd lifetime start and "presto" we have a winning racehorse......three year old overcame a wide trip up on the pace to couple of works since......hottest trainer at the meet so far in Spwar........good likelihood that back to back wins are in the cards

3  Run Macho Run   weak race on the off going in his latest......let's toss that out.......race 2 back is fairly strong but he will still likely need a little more this afternoon to take down today's higher levl.....rider upgrade and 2 better looking works than he has been producing of late......seems dangerous

4  R Cha Cha   another who didn't handle the off track very well.......previous racing endeavor which was at Lrc fits fine here........should be a player here if he can run as well on the SA dirt......recent 59:3 Hg works at SA hints that he will

race 3    average clarity

9  Evicted   all three lifetime races at one mile are better than his races run further than logic suggests that 6 1/2 might fit well.......should finish with vigor in an affair that might go to the "last one standing".....Prat sticks around

3  Heat   by far runs his best competing on the SA hill turf course......should welcome a return to it today especially coming off of a route as historically route to sprint for races run on the SA hill is a solid angle

6  David's Memory   flashed good turf route speed in latest and tired.......cut backs to a turf sprint and gets a rider upgrade.......can be near the front end of things and with better endurance coming off of a route race.....trainer is off to a better start at the SA meeting than his record indicates

8  Gosofar

race 4    average clarity

9  Metrocity   first time running as a gelding.......1st time racing with Cerin as the trainer.......away since Feb (when last seen at GG) but training like he is ready fresh.......and takes that magical drop from MSW racing down to the bottom level maiden claiming price of 20K

7  Solar Zone   last 3 races fit and the cut back in distance appears to be a plus.......back in short rest but he handled the quick turn around quite well as recently as mid December

6  Eat My Dirt   best of three lifetime races was the lone time he sprinted.....the race wasn't much but blinkers on and just what you want to in improved he wakes up today and runs his lifetime what degree is the ? mark

5  Stormin Cowboy

race 5    average clarity

1  Golden Light  way too wide in latest especially considering this mare was up on a decent pace.......did quite well to only be beaten by 6 3/4L.......faces softer today and with a much better post to deal with....seems likely to get one of the 1st 4 slots down the back stretch saving ground thru turn one.....such a deal

9  Tiz Adore   not an easy post with the rail out 20 feet........but........on the right end of the learning curve with her latest being better than par for today's level.......appreciates ample time starts and gets it.......if you flipped posts with our top pick she would have been the top selection

2  Space Cadet   a few lengths short of our top two selections fig wise but she should get a nice ground saving trip sitting about 2nd or 3rd........believe she will need a near perfect trip to take down this affair and might get it

4  Halo Darlin

race 6    below average clarity

1  Stealth Drone   last two fast races fit very strong for this five-year old mare considering today's softer level.......back to Bejarano who owns a win and a 2nd by a nose in his last 3 mounts on her and in the other race she reared badly at the start losing all chance

4  Basic Boots   major awakening in her latest on a mud floated surface at SA just 20 days ago.......worked out to be better than par for today's higher level.........was the impetus for the improvement caused by the moisture in the surface or just an improved fitter filly.......we shall likely find out

7  Little Bit Lovely   both lifetime races at 6 1/2 furlongs (and both at SA) are better than par for today's level and the one that she ran on a good track on Dec 30th is disguised by a wide trip up on a pace.....not out of the picture here by any means

8  Brooks All Mine

10  Margie's Minute

race 7    average clarity

2  Conquest Farenheit   both lifetime races which were on the turf are impressive especially the 134:2 on the turf as a Sept. two-year old.......and this expensive colt is bred just fine for the dirt and likely has Derby dreams........Mr Miller has been part of the exacta in one half of his 34 starts at the new meeting

3  Big Gray Rocket  fresh off of a 4 month break might be a very good thing for this expensive Baffert colt who ran his best in 3 lifetime races in his MSW debut where he broke about 6L slow and still only lost by a length in a fast heat of MSW runners at the prestigious Del Mar summer meeting

6  Sorry Erik   might be a very good claim by Keith Desormeaux........three year old colt won a 20,000 claimer by 5L for O'Neill and company despite a wide trip.......if the effort wasn't attributed to the off going lookout today.........and the 2nd best of 81 five furlong work at SA he put in since the claim hints that it might not have been just the "off" going that moved him up

race 8    average clarity

8  Goodyearforroses   seems very sharp in the a.m. for today's race........won by 4 1/2 lengths in an impressive time at one furlong less of turf last summer at WO.....he also has won at today's distance on the AW at WO at 1 1/2 miles........good trainer rider combo in Baltas/Nakatani

6  Ryan's Charm   beaten only 4 1/2L for the win in the BC F & M turf in his 1st in the good old U S of A........prior to that she rattled off 6 straight wins in Peru.......retains Bejarano......should give a good account of herself

5  Frenzified   good history racing at 11 or 12 furlongs on the turf......12 furlongs of sod here and draws the attention of the somewhat overly fastidious (he has earned the right) Mike Smith for the very 1st time

2  Dressed to a T

10  Into The Mystic

4  Ginga
