Santa Anita for Friday 10 February 2017

Keep an eye on the sky! Nice card Saturday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

(if the races are taken off of the turf: 9-3-6-1-2)

6  Del Mar Ann   just claimed by Richard Baltas and the works since hint the sharp conditioner has a very good handle on his new addition to his barn.......rider upgrade back to Nakatani who owns both of this gal's lifetime wins.......late runner will need a solid pace up front and believe she gets it here

3  Nickname   Grade 1 winner runs off of a 9 month layoff and for the 1st time with Richard Mandella as the trainer.......1st on the sod but owns a very good pedigree for it.......Mandella does very well in prep races for even when he points to bigger and better things down the road......as in he likes to win them.......many top barns don't as they are just out for a spin around the track

9  Skye Diamonds   very good history when Pereira rides (5 4 1 0)......only grass race was dull but at a route which she might not have cared for......seems deserving of another shot in a turf sprint?

4  Latatico

race 2    above average clarity

3  Gato Dolce   obviously this colt has some physical liabilities but my guess is he is healthy enough to run at today's lowly level......latest race run 4 weeks ago fits well......race 2 back run in late 2015 (with a decent trip) would win this by a dozen lengths

7  Big Bad Jon   fell off in his latest......race two back is solid......should be able to snatch the lead and only has 5 1/2 furlongs to hold together.......dangerous especially if our top choice can't handle the rigors of a race anymore

1  Tremors Code   should be running late........has some ability but likely needs to win by default.......as in both of our top two picks falter

2  Fireball

race 3    below average clarity

2  Sudden Sam   best early gas in this spot and this four-year old gelding is 2 for 3 when snatching a loose lead........sharp speed rider in Baze.....1st at a route is a ? mark

1  Yoked   somewhat banking on some moisture in the track for this fellow who moved forward in a somewhat disguised run on an off track in his latest in the 13 Jan version of this race.....sharp drills since

5  Romar Success   great time to drop is off of long layoffs as there is plenty of doubts in the minds of the claiming vultures........and you have to appreciate that Prat/Eurton have won 6 of their last 9 as a team

race 4    average clarity

5  Hawk's Journey   trainer is off to one of his better starts at the tough SA winter/spring meeting and his top jock of late has been Contreras......just raced on the 21st but still has managed to put in two works since with her latest work being quite solid......rather sure this invader is feeling good

1  Merril Merrily   improving sort appears up for another move in the desired direction as has a.m. preparation has never been better......like our top selection she appears sharp

2  Fight to the Point   a few works hint this four-year old filly 1st timer can rune some......but I will say it is not very encouraging that Kruljac is 2 for his last 93 with MSW 1st timers

7  Apphia

race 5    average clarity

(if the races are taken off of the turf : 1-4-5-7-3 )

4  Unapologetic   seems like a sharp claim as this gelding is still eligible for this protected race and he owns quite a few races that would make him tough at today's level.....Spawr is on fire and has this one training as if he can keep the good times rolling

1  El Super   Mulhall is hotter than her record at the SA meeting indicates and her record's not bad.........she has been making many sharp moves so maybe the blinkers off for her five-year old will be a good change......and her horse owns some solid back numbers

2  Fishel   trainer is ice-cold but gets Prat to ride and Gaines has this one training as if she might jump-start her struggling barn with this fellow

6  Is Trevor Clever

race 6    below average clarity

2  Success Rate   last 4 races fit and back to the 12.5K level where Carava took him for two races back.........2 for 3 on off track tracks......sharp recent reassuring drill

3  Tribal Again   seems to be improving one baby step at a time........hot trainer/rider combo.......1 for 1 on an off track.........dangerous improving sort

5  Royal F J   fairly consistent sort even at the ripe age of 10.......and he likes an off track ( 2 1 1 0)......Pedroza seems to be a really good fit getting this elder statesman to sit closer early......maybe he's a good match because he can identify with this old guy with 92 races under his belt as Pedroza isn't exactly in his prime either.....but like F J rather amazing

1  Finallygotabentley

race 7    average clarity

1  Top of the Game   two for two at SA........both races were routes.........one at 1 1/16 and one at 1 1/8 with the average winning margin more than 4 1/2 lengths.........four year old gelding had the one post for both races and had Desormeaux for both races......yikes..... as in deja vue

5  Hoffenheim   another with a good history routing at SA (3 1 2 0) and all with today's rider aboard.....1st running for his new trainer Doug O"Neill who likely will be hoping to impress his new big time owner who took his stock away from Baffert

2  Semper Fortis   double barrel action for O'Neill as he also trains our top 2nd selection......this fellow has run some big efforts versus better but not so much on the SA dirt surface.....still this is the easiest spot he has competed in for 3 1/2 months

race 8    average clarity

6  Hard Arch   last two racing endeavors are disguised by wide trips especially his latest where he was wide on a strong rail day.......rider upgrade.......and the trainer is often at his best with the sprint-sprint-route maneuver preparing a young horse for his first at a route.........which is.........the scenario for today

1  Sharp Samurai   65 to 1 odds in MSW debut says gimme gimme gimme.......drills since hint it is go city 1st at a route in 2nd lifetime start.......thru last Sunday the 1 post in dirt routes has won 29% of the time.......dangerous and at a price

4  True Appeal   sprint-sprint-route maneuver is a strong one for the D'A........and  the two lifetime sprint running lines suggest this colt wants a route of ground......we shall see
