Santa Anita for Saturday 25 February 2017

Please note that as we mentioned in our calendar section there will be approximately 12 days that we won't have a publication for in 2017 and Sunday the 26th is the first of them. Be back with you on Thursday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  St. Reno   can real fly but doesn't need the lead to win......both lifetime endeavors at SA fit well in this spot......seems highly likely to sit either 1st or 2nd in the early stages

2  Candy Promises   hottest trainer on the grounds in Bill Spawr........four year old gelding is 1 for 1 at the 5 1/2 furlong distance........laid up since August but the way in which Spawr has been winning it seems likely this one is fit and ready fresh off of the bench

1  Aeon   nice off the pace type effort was aided by a brutal pace in his latest to help flatter his running style.......less of a chance that occurs today but it might......should come motoring late if he gets more pace than anticipate

5  Magic Taste

race 2    below average clarity

3  Kendra  very poor trips in both lifetime races.......definitely has a high rate of early speed........and the fact that D'Amato doesn't drop this three year old to a softer level hints he believes in this youngster.......dangerous if she gets a better trip

6  Sheza Firstsamurai   nice forward move in her 2nd lifetime start and now she is able to return in short rest.......believe she can move in the desired direction once again today

2  Dominating Women   plenty of ability displayed by this filly in her MSW debut.......and trained by one hot trainer in Peter Miller......would have rated higher is she didn't have such a gap in her works in preparation for today's 2nd lifetime race

race 3    average clarity

1  Bettys Bambino   when a given horse has consistency down the majestic SA hill grass course it is as significant as any race run in year old gelding is 6 for 7 down the hill and winning with a devastating late kick

4  Ambitious Brew   another who loves the SA hill ( 10 5 2 0) which includes a nice Grade 3 win two races back.....been away since November 5th but the last time she returned off of a significant layoff she crushed her competition

2  Richard's Boy   needs to bring his "A game".......not at all impossible to take down this race if he brings it

race 4    above average clarity

6  Adios Cali's   solid winning MSW debut two races back at Lrc.......attempted a $200K Stakes turf route in her 2nd start where she faded after pressing a decent pace........back to a dirt sprint today......repeat of her MSW debut might do the trick but she is likely up for better coming off of a turf route where she likely muscled up some as only the grass can do sometimes

2  All of a Sudden   both lifetime races fit fine in this spot.....low percentage jockey aboard but he has looked good on this three year old filly.....three year old filly is not out of this by any means if she is up to her 3rd straight strong effort

3  Cioppino Pasadino   seems like a decent claim by Becerra and company and the works following the claim hint that her new trainer has improved her.....we shall see

4  Divine Spark

race 5    average clarity

7  Slalom   MSW debut was a bust as this filly checked extremely hard in the race and lost all chance....she did however display some good early speed and with no support at the windows.....blinkers go on today which likely will help her focus even more in the early stages....and if that is the case she should be tough from the opening bell especially with the drop into a low-priced maiden claiming affair

9  Part of My Heart  Hofmans is a respectably 15% with his last 26 maiden claiming 1st time starters........and the last three drills for this filly sure suggest that she can run some especially for the given level of this race

5  Fair Escape   toss out slop race.......toss out two races at Dmr as she appears to dislike the race run at SA fits solidly while the other which was her last does not.....but it appeared to be more of a public work-out......a significant rebound city might be in the cards for today

1  Munny Spunt

race 6    average clarity

1  Ward 'n Jerry   very consistent with 4 or 5 weeks off between starts and gets that here......1 for 1 at today's half marathon distance of 10 furlongs ......and....... he dusted his competition by 2 1/4 (going away at the wire) lengths

7  Hayabusa One   today's added distance sure appears to be to his advantage.....both his running lines and his pedigree support the notion.....and his trainer sure can get a given runner well prepared to handle the longer races

4  Power Foot   seems best competing at 1 1/4 to 1 3/8 on the turf........10 furlongs of turf today and he is racing versus the softest foes he has seen in a very long time

3  Inordinate

race 7    average clarity

6  Seau    not the best of trips in his last two endeavors especially in his latest......but his recent work series hints Hollendorfer has him extremely sharp for this afternoons race.....believe he is sitting on his lifetime best......if that is true I like his chances

9  Kimbear   by far his lifetime best was the only time he has competed on the dirt and the effort is disguised to some degree by a wide trip in a very fast heat.......that race was at he can run as well on the Santa Anita main track he should by a major player in the outcome of this race

2  Uncle Billy   expensive purchase is trained by the red hot Peter Miller and the works put in by the crafty trainer hint has has this youngster meant and ready to roll in his MSW debut.....and the fact that Miller scratched his barn mate supports the notion

3  Pioneer Lad

Long-shot consideration :  10 Mind Reader   trainer is bad with 1st time starters so toss out his MSW debut where he had very little support at the windows.......the conditioner is good with 2nd time starters...... and with 1st time blinkers he is very dangerous.....1st time blinkers today........big time owner........hmmm

race 8    average clarity

3  Above Board   latest race is much better than appears in print as this four-year old gelding was caught wide up on a solid pace and still managed to crush her competition.......seems more than deserving of today's step up in class

8  Aldrin    very dangerous speed type best break cleanly from the outer-most post position......if he does he has a shot to open up a lead and wire the field

7   I'malreadythere   won two races back running turf to dirt.......connections smartly try the same maneuver today......might come flying in the late stages

1  Lazzam

race 9    average clarity

4  My Uncle   took his 4th lifetime race to get back to the solid effort he ran in his MSW debut......and his last was at a route but on an off track.....turf today but he did show some life in his only race on it.......and I believe him to be a sharper individual now than what he was then.....we shall see

3  Heat   overcame a bad trip to run one of the strongest races of his career.......reassuring 5F drill since........believe he is better suited to 6 1/2F than 8F but if he ever is going to finish with vigor at one mile it might be today

9  Evicted   seems to find trouble in his races but retains top jock Prat for a 3rd straight race and just popped one of his best preparatory works in many a moon.....very dangerous sort

6  Call Me First

8  Incredible Luck

1  Gosofar
