Santa Anita for Sunday 12 March 2017

Seems like a average card to decipher. Let's call it a 5.5 of the 1 to 10 scale of things. Don't forget that there are only a few day's left to save money on our special pub for Florida Derby Day in 3 weeks.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Backintheacademy   seven-year old mare has had a steady diet of a rider who failed to impress in S a switch to a decent jock should help as should a race shape that favors those up close early......and this lady should be able to sit 1st or 2nd

4  Margie's Minute   last 6 races when today's rider Pratt was up led to a record of (6 2 3 1)...........drop makes sense as Bell took this filly for today's 20K claiming price 11 months ago

2  Midnight Candy   seems at his best on fast rated conventional dirt and especially at Santa Anita.....well rested and ready for action.....not out of this by any means

race 2    average clarity

6  Lucky Dolly  not much in latest but races 2 and 3 back fit.....and her race 4 back is exceptionally strong and disguised by a very rough journey.....Molly Pearson has done very well with limited starters and has placed (risked losing) her stock where they can win

1  Velvet Jones   last 3 sprints races are better than par.......proven fresh and this filly is fresh today and with a series of works that hint Belvoir isn't messing around as he might lose this girl today on the drop

5  Rcatcanscat   best at six furlongs and drops a notch.....not much of a number in her last despite running 2nd .......but that was at a route.......sprint today

race 3    above average clarity

2  Honor and Courage   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

5  West Coast   solid final time figure in his debut which was at a route........fits here and has a shot at the circle of joy but easy to place as our 3rd selection

race 4    average clarity

8  Glacier   very impressive bad trip grass race run 2 back with a struggling rider.........Bejarano takes over today......same effort with a better trip today

6  Kitten's Royal   useful MSW turf route debut and the strength of the tune-up is disguised by a wide trip.......3 works since and a significant rider has tossed two turf winners form 3 starters......might make that 3 turf winners from 3 starters after today

9  Fortune of War   tough trip in his U S of A debut for this Kruljac GB invader........two 5F works put in since.......loses Prat but Nakatani will do just fine

11  Farley

Long-shot consideration:  5  General Kitten   sat way too far back in his MSW debut which was also at one mile on the sod.....but........he showed life making up a ton of ground.........1st time Lasix.........1st time blinkers........seems likely to show much more has tossed 3 grass winners with 5 to start.......4 of five after today would be nice

race 5    average clarity

6  Harbored Affair   heck of a good work regiment for a filly state-bred maiden claiming 1st time starter......Hollendorfer sure appears to mean business with copious gate works and plenty of endurance put into his four-year old filly

5  Jill Madden    filly has shown she fits at the MC Cal-bred level.......and today Myadi enters her for $40K to get 2 lbs off and he puts up the 7 lbs bug boy recent drill.......9 lbs off.......hard not to see as a major player here

8  Bobbie Lincoln   Ron Ellis has been much better with maiden claiming 1st time starters the last year or so and he appears to have this four-year old filly cranked up and ready to roll in her debut

3  Cant Catch Camille

race 6    below average clarity

9  Desert General   T C Baze sticks around with the equipment change to blinkers off for today....maybe the veteran rider suggested the change.....lone route race is way better than appears as this maiden had to cope win an unsustainable set of fractions

1  Johann's Command  rated in last and ran his lifetime best.......that versatility makes him more dangerous now........good post to work out a good trip.......seems like a major factor in the outcome of this race if he holds form

5  Jackson Teller   sprint-sprint-route scenario and back in short rest......also.....draws the attention of Prat and his agent........seems pointed for this race to some degree.......we shall see

10  Woodstock Memory

race 7    average clarity

1  Pretty Girl   easy to ignore her poor number in her last as she has a weak pedigree to handle the slop.....only other race in the USA was versus way better than she faces today and she beat 1/2 of the 14 horse field having to deal with a horrible post as in outer-most post 14.......jock upgrade and way better post for today

5  Sweet Chanty   very consistent grass filly who worst finish was 4th in 8 career races.......1st time Prat today and gets another furlong to run than her last.......both should produce more from her

3  Goodtearforroses   two for two since Baltas took over and both wins were with Nakatani riding......would have rated higher if it wasn't for the fact that she has missed the board in all three of her 9F grass races (7 4 0 1) at other distances on the sod

6  Kenriya

race 8    average clarity

9  Percy's Bluff   shooting for his 7th straight win and the GG shipper from the Hollendorfer barn draws the attention of the meetings leading rider in Pratt.......five year old almost always fires good efforts off of short rest and 21 days since his last qualifies for that.......127 lbs is a load but he has won twice with 125 lbs

10  Wildfire Kid  seems like a good spot 1st out after the claim for Diodoro and company.........gelding is  dynamite at abbreviated sprint distances like today (9 5 3 0)......should be in the mix from the get go

1  Success Rate   decent post and he has been a really good fit for jock Santiago Gonzalez (4 3 0 1)........seems to have lucked out some as for as his assigned weight is concerned

2  Nextdoorneighbor

Long-shot consideration:   6  Changing Karma   needs a solid forward move and might be ready to provide one......won his last versus easier but did so off of some dull a.m. the works are quite a bit better and gets weight off.......rather sure this seven-year old is moving forward much is the question mark

race 9    below average clarity

3  Beach View   nice finish to run 2nd in the 9 Feb version of this to work 4 times since.....might be feeling good.....last fits and a move forward might be in the cards 2nd out after a layoff

6  Mission Drive   seems likely to get decent position sitting about 3rd, 4th of 5th and saving ground for Nakatani who has looked good on the grass since his return to S Cal.......and the mini marathon distance is a good fit this 5 yr old

13  Bedeviled   colt has preformed very well on the dirt until his latest........and he sure seems better on the logic suggests he might be up for his best ever on the sod.....if so maybe he can overcome one nasty post

4  Klondike Creek

2  Terzetto

5  Mexican Grove
