Santa Anita for Friday 24 March 2017

Seems like a good card today so let us call it a 7 on the 1 to 10 scale of things.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

4  Moonlight Blue   major league rider upgrade and 2nd out after the layoff seemingly has this three-year old ready for the effort run two races back......if my assessment is correct he sure appears to be the one to overcome

3  Harrovian   bad trip in latest and a brutal trip two races back........drops lower from mdn75K to mdn50K and draws Bejarano.......sure seems like a major factor in the outcome of this race

1  My Farmer   poor trip in MSW debut which was run down the SA hill earning a fig when adjusted for his trouble that is par like.......owns a decent pedigree for the dirt and the distance......low percentage trainer but it seems meaningful that Desormeaux remains up for his 2nd lifetime start

5  Super Echelon

race 2    average clarity

5  Lyrics   the 3 drills since this Mandella 2nd time starter ran indicate he benefited from the race and that a forward move is likely to what degree seems to be the ? mark

1  Tiz the light   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

3  Danuska's My Girl   decent work tab for this Hollendorfer 1ster and I like that he finished up with a nice 5F work only 5 days has tossed 5 winners from 6 starters including a Stakes winner........

race 3    average clarity

3  Law Abiding Citizen   ran 2nd versus vastly better in his latest in a Grade 2 at 7F on the SA dirt......1st on the sod today but he owns a decent pedigree for it........should be in the mix from the get go and tough to beat if he handles his new challenge

5  Rockin Rudy   set a nasty quarter in his 1st down the SA hill and still managed to hang on for 2nd.......impressive endurance building 6F drills since........should be tough from the opening bell

2  Interrogator   seems somewhat inferior to our top two choices but the race shape seems to favor his off pace style which makes him a threat.....but definitely easy to put as our 3rd selection

4  Elwood J

race 4    average clarity

6  Second Proposal   lone win at the meeting for a struggling trainer in Craig Lewis who appears to want another win rather badly (and that likely includes his owner) as he doesn't move this gelding up in claiming as he is deserving of such a move......if this fellow repeats his last he as a decent shot at winning once again

2  Eddie's First   dropped way down in his last and won for fun........drops again.......voided claim 3 back.......flip a coin as far as his health is concerned......obviously he is not in the best of shape...... but....... how bad?

5  Courageous Dave   Miyadi is very stout off of long layoffs......this 1st time gelding has been away since 9 April 2016.......drops.....and working quite well and especially so for someone like Miyadi who doesn't push them too hard in the a.m.

4  Cherokee Dynasty

Long-shot consideration:  8  Prohibition Repeal   decent layoff run in latest and drops one claiming level this afternoon.......and now he gets a significant rider upgrade.....not impossible but easy to put as our 3rd pick-a-rue

race 5    average clarity

4  Midnight Harbor   solid return to the race wars following an 11 month hiatus from the battlefield.......and the works since hint even better can be expected today from this Hollendofer four-year old gelding

2  The Topsider   race lacks speed and this gelding might have as much as anyone in the field....... and...... that is disguised by the position he sat ( 7th but at 22:1 and then 9th but at 45:1) in a very fast paced affair........and his trainer Pil D'Amato is very stout dropping multiple levels

5  Gato Dulce   just claimed by Glatt who sees fit to have his new shooter gelded........Glatt is cold as he hasn't won in about a month but it is always tough not to consider him 1st out following a in 25% with his last 100

3  Big Hearted

race 6    average clarity

5  David's Memory   not much in his 1st three lifetime races all run last summer.....2 for 2 following a 5 month layoff including a nice win down the SA hill two races back......and back to Bejarano who rode that effort down the hill.......seems likely to get a nice up close or on the lead position with what should be a reasonable pace........such a deal

1  Anatolian Heat   toss his latest as he dislikes the dirt........might be at his very best sprinting on the grass and his recent works hint he might be ready for a top effort.......right surface - distance fits - sharp works - top rider/trainer combo......hard not to like

8  Record Highs    too ambitious in his last two racing endeavors.........1st time gelding today.........away since May but likely will be a factor if he is ready off of the extended break from the game.....tough to tell

6  Informality

race 7    average clarity

8  Sid the Squid   responds well to ample time between starts and gets it......impetus for the significant drop appears to be rather simple......Art Sherman and of course the owner could use a win......after all they are not pets......well most of the time

9  Sharp Holiday   like the rider change back to Pedroza in this spot without much speed........good gate jock seems likely to hustle this filly early and do so in a race that lacks early his chances if he sits 1st or 2nd in the early stages and avoids getting caught wide on the turn

3  Forthenineteen   seems better prepared in the a.m. this go around than he has been recently.......and......with 1st time blinkers and a switch to a hot speed rider

2  Truly Ponte

race 8    above average clarity

7  Saburai   blocked in the stretch in his latest or would have won the March 3rd version of this MSW race......and I like that the hot rider/trainer combo of Desormeaux and Cerin remains intact

9  Sally Simpson    big time owner Reddam's first timer goes off at 74 to 1 in a 6 horse MSW think that was a spin around the since her debut are so much better than what they were prior to her MSW debut.......1st on the lawn with a good pedigree for it.........trainer is good with 2nd time starters.......hmmmm

1  Line   Line our top pick in her MSW debutbut stumbled very badly at the start and then showed that she can run like we thought......would have rated higher if it wasn't for her bad stumble as so often horse's run badly following a race in which they stumble

10  Kenda

8  Red Shelby

3  Chocolate Coated
