Santa Anita for Friday 31 March 2017

Don't forget that we have a special publication for purchase for tomorrow for Florida Derby Day. We cover the 9 Stakes races carded for the day six of which are Graded races. Click on the banner for Gulfstream Park to find out more details.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    above average clarity

6  Dream Police   what a spot for Baltas and company to drop from 25Knw2 to 12.5Knw2 as he catches one extremely weak group of horses......and this gelding seems at his best at today's one mile distance

5  Hot Paris Night    fell off some in his latest likely because it appears as if 1 1/16th miles is a little too far for him to handle......cut back to one mile where he graduated two races back should help his chances

3  Unbridled Rocket   seems to be in decent form but he sure appears to be a hanger.....but he might have enough early gas in this spot to get the lead......and when a "hanger" gets the lead with nothing in front of them they become much more dangerous

race 2    average clarity

7  Well Caught  basically her whole career fits at today's level.......but...... here is what a wrote on Saturday about a horse I liked that was  also ridden by Brice Blanc, "rider seldom seems to be in tune with my handicapping (everyone seems to have a rider that seldom comes thru for them and Blanc is my guy).......hope that isn't the case here"......unfortunately it was.......maybe today breaks the ice

2  Blondy's Reward   talk about a mare not paying her way as she has only earned $4.5K in 2016/17.......so drop makes sense.......and she sure is training as if she is up for a top effort today.........fits fine here is that is the case

1  So Golden   nothing special but either is her competition......Cassidy has quietly had a good SA meeting and might keep the ball rolling here

6  Sharp Holiday

race 3    average clarity

3  Smokey Image   started his career with 6 straight wins.....then he slipped off of form and only managed one 3rd place finish in his next 5 races......seems like he might be returning as good as new off of the 8 month layoff as his works are solid and Mike Smith is up for his lone mount on the card

1  El Huerfano   last 4 racing endeavors all fit well at today's level and Miller sees fit to put up his main man in Arroyo who has won 13 of his last 25 over the last 2 months for the conditioner........mostly a route horse but he ran extremely well at 7F coping with a nasty pace and still managing to lose by only a length.....so......6 1/2F seems OK

4  Cat Burglar   plenty of furlongs put into this laid up Bob Baffert seven-year old.......should be plenty fit to come running late especially if our top two choices press each other early

race 4    average clarity

3  Sheza Chattykat   Baltas is deadly when he drops a given horse from MSW racing to maiden claiming and shows decent a.m work........both are the case here.........hot rider Bejarano wisely sticks around

5  Runnin for Tuiton   Bonde 1st time starter is training as if he is meant and ready to roll at 1st asking.......Bonde is stout with MSW 1st timers....but.....only average with maiden claiming 1st timers......but this is a $100K MC so it is more like a MSW race and few ever get claimed at such a lofty price for a maiden claimer

1  Arch of Troy   trainer Mark Tsagalakis only starts a couple a year but is almost always dangerous and difficult to judge as far as their a.m. preparation is concerned

4  Settle Down Eileen

race 5    average clarity

5  Top Fortitude   both races since Philip Oviedo took over are sub 116 flat 6 1/2F affairs and fit solidly here....and his works indicate he might be up for a 3rd.......7 furlongs seemingly is a plus for him and likely won't be for many in this field

1  Bolita Boys   Hollendorfer has been firing on all cylinders lately and seems to have another runner poised for an effort deserving of the winners circle.......only race at 7 panels is good yet disguised by a poor trip........working like a happy healthy middle-aged fellow

4  Ultimate Luck   not impossible to end up on the lead in this race without much early speed and the last time this five-year old found the front end early he wired the field in a one mile dirt race at SA.......and his only race at 7F was a decent 2nd

7  Chris and Dave

race 6    average clarity

4  That's a Lady   most of this field wants to go to the front which sure can set things up for this late running filly from the Sadler barn......believe that T C Baze who sure isn't afraid to ride the wood should be able to get there on at least the 1st turn........if that scenario develops this four-year old should be closing late

3  All Squared   last sure appears to be a sprint tune-up of sorts......if that is the case she might be poised for an effort similar to her very stout route dirt race that she ran at SA in late May of 2016........the one to beat if she is

1  Generous Pour   just fired her lifetime best which was run 1st out following the Craig Dollase claim.......she was only beaten by 3/4 of a length for the win despite a very wide trip......tough 10 post that day......1 post today......such a deal

6  Plastered

race 7    average clarity

2  Burnaroundtheedges   like the cut back in distance as this six year old doesn't want to run as far as 10 furlongs and yet he really didn't embarrass himself.....and like our top choice in race 6 it seems as is Mr Baze can save ground at least thru turn one and that my friends is more than 1/2 the battle in most grass races

5  Anatolian Heat   lone lifetime win came turf sprint to turf route in a race run last June.......turf sprint in last - turf route today one week later.........hottest rider/trainer combo around.....hard not to like

6  Alsatian   Drysdale is one tough cat to figure these days but one thing seems clear and that is when he convinces Prat and his agent to take one of his horses they are well meant.......needless to say Mr Prat is up here

7  Grecian Fire

Long-shot consideration:   3  Accountability   on the right end of the learning curve and his preparatory work since his last hints he will move forward again.......1st on the grass and at a route are the question marks.......new sire Acclamation has plenty of potential to end up being a good sire of grass runners

race 8    average clarity

5  Quiet No More   sat dead last in her debut at GG in a MSW race that had a ridiculously slow pace (not good).......blinkers on for his 2nd start and his works are markedly better.......that and the fact that she takes that magical drop from MSW to mdn20K makes her easy to make her top pick-a-rue

6  Joeffie   low percentage conditioner trains this filly who has been getting minor rewards in her last 3 races with two 3rd's and a 4th.......but it appears Dunham has tweaked something for the better as her a.m. work at Slr is vastly improved especially for this low-level of racing......definitely fits if she runs to her works

8  Agent Nine T Nine    like this filly did in her lone route race which was run 2 back she will go after the lead and try to hang on with her 7 lbs weight break (bug bot up) which should help her accomplish the task

7  Miss Jordana

4  Eskenforandreya

1  Silver Apples
