Santa Anita for Saturday 15 April 17

Seems like a decent card today if I am still thinking straight after an evening where I was quite under the weather and had very little sleep. Note: I did handicap when I felt better. Same goes for tomorrow's card.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  St. Reno   speed and the rail had a good day yesterday and this Sadler five-year old should either grab the lead or stalk our 3rd choice........started his career in a MC20K (and won) so back up for a tag of 25K this afternoon isn't much of a concern

3  Magic Taste   recent a.m. prowess points to a top effort this afternoon likely because he is back up for a tag for the 1st time in 7 races.....does tend to hang but might not today if the 1 and the 2 both push each other too hard in the early stages

1  Foolish to Deceive   another who is working as if he might be up for a forward move (in fact the works almost seem too fast)......as mentioned above the lead likely goes to this guy or our top choice......and if the rail ends up as good as yesterday and he leads.......he will be tough to get by

5  Redneck Crazy

race 2    average clarity

2  Kenjisstorm   nicely improved since Baltas took over the training duties 2 races back......and one of the trainer's more dangerous stats is 3rd run following a layoff which is the case today.....all that..... and...... he should get a nice ground saving stalking trip

3  Pee Wee Reese    undefeated on the grass (2 for 2 with large margin gate to wire wins) in turf sprints....... tries two turns of sod today for the 1st time........D'Amato Cal-bred should grab the lead and try to hold off the challenge of our top choice and maybe a couple of others

1  Stringent   earned solid adjusted for trouble figs in last two races with tough trips.....better post for today should be a plus but Martin Garcia has been struggling on the grass.....but.....he sure has the right horse to bust out a turf slump with this nice Hofmans runner

4  Royal Albert Hall

race 3    average clarity

4  Basie Boots   last win came in a 25Knw2 which was the 1st time this Sherlock filly was up for a tag since he claimed her........so with that in mind I beleive the connections are lured into this drop from 25K to 16K to take advantage of the 16Knw3 claiming condition....she should be primed for this race

2  Comealongwithme   another who appears to be dropping to take advantage of the 16Knw3 claimer........and look who wants the mount for the 1st time.......Mr. Gary Stevens

1  Forthenineteen   nice forward move 2nd out following the Brocklebank claim......not out of this if she manages to build upon her latest

race 4    average clarity

4  Lord Simba   both races at SA and at today's 6F distance are very strong.......and Baffert shows a ton of confidence in his four-year old by putting him in a G3 race following his MSW breaking win

1  Kentuckian  tough to tell when this Kentuckian is up for his best but when he is he sure can produce some eye-popping efforts...... such as his last where he won despite being caught 4 wide pressing a fast pace

2  Grazen Sky   2 for 2 at today's distance on main track surfaces.......1 for 15 at other distances........it's not rocket science........should be motoring late

race 5    above average clarity

8  Gonzo   just fired lifetime best and it seems fitting as Gonzo rode Gonzo for the first time.....not the best of trips but he had to cope with outer-most 13th post and predictably broke tardy and was caught wide on the turn.........sharp reassuring 4F dill just 5 days ago......the one to beat with the same effort displayed in his last and of course a better trip-a-rue

7  Bourque   1st time blinkers - 1st time racing as a gelding - and 1st time racing in a maiden claimer......a trifecta of changes/reasons to consider this O'Neill three year old this afternoon

9  Cut   obviously a bad claim by Truman and company for 75K to wind up in a mdn30K 4 weeks later......the connections do convince Bejarano to ride.......dislike this situation.....thus I must use a cop-out line......as in......flip a coin

2  June Sixth

race 6    above average clarity

8  Hitters Park   sharp win in last to graduate earning a fig that sure fits at today's higher level.........two reassuring works since......good opportunity for Ocampo to impress the Miller barn once again and make it 3 for 7 over the last two months riding for the high % trainer

2  River Hoss   seems best at 6F ( 6 1 2 3) and gets it here.....and his last 3 6F sprints are better than appear in print......late runner appears to get an adequate amount of speed signed up to aid his late running style

1  Gigantis   impressive 17 to 1 maiden breaking win off of the extended hiatus from racing.......better than par for today's higher level......3 works since.......seems likely to provide a similar race today or maybe better if he exited his race in decent shape which his works suggest that he has

3  Informality

race 7    average clarity

4  Sweet Dragon Fly   kudos to Pedroza who sure has improved his grass riding in 2017........GB invader has steadily gotten better since arriving to the States in Oct.......and her last in much better than appears in print.......four year old filly should sit either 1st or 2nd out of turn one.....right in Predoza's wheelhouse

1  Ava Forty Seven   might have needed her last.....if that is the case lookout here as she has good early speed with the only other speed that shows on paper being our top choice......rider/trainer have won two of their last four as a team making for a significant return on yur money

2  Crimson and Gold   seems like the best of the off pace runners in this field......connections will have their fingers crossed that more pace develops than anticipated in this F & M alw race

7  Special Gal

race 8    average clarity

7  Waldorf   Glatt is more than capable with maiden claiming 1st timers and I am rather sure he has this MC75K 1ster ready.......Glatt has seemingly put both speed and endurance into his new shooter.....also I think it is a good sign of confidence that he starts this youngster in a high-priced MC as he only cost 15K at sale

6  Sutton Impact   another 1ster seemingly all wound up and ready to roll.....in this case for the Miller barn who just keeps cranking out winners without a break in the success for a very very long time.......can't remeber the last time a barn was on such a extended roll

8  Dreams of Valor   low percentage trainer these days but not when dropping from MSW racing to maiden claiming where he has won 4 of his last 16 with 5 others in the money......1st time Maldonado......expecting more early speed for this Dollase colt

9  Allaboutmike

race 9    average clarity

3  Moments Notiz   very consistent cheap claimer and especially so "at the distance" where he has managed 9 wins in 15 starts....claimed by Miller in his last and he sure seems up for the class hike as his a.m. work is vastly improved

4  Ankeny Hill   ice-cold barn drops this seven-year old from 25K to 8K.......if he still has something left in him he sure is racing at the right distance/surface where he owns 2 wins in three races

5  London Legacy   dangerous trainer sprint-route-sprint which is the case here.....seems ready for a strong late running effort if he gets enough gas up front

8  Changing Karma

race 10    below average clarity

8  Hi Heat Boy   the D'A and friends supported this 2nd time starter much more than they did the 3 horse and I am sticking with the notion that this D'Amato youngster has more talent than his barn mate......either way expect more for this 2nd timer

3  Thermopolis   went off at 17 to 1 in his MSW and beat his barn mate our top choice.......D'Amato is much dangerous with 2nd time starters.......might have put this fellow on top if Garcia was riding better on the sod

6  Patience Ofa Saint   trainer is absolutely polar this year at SA but might get things jump started here if this colt logically builds off his 1st turf race and shows more today.......but of course our top two selections are in the same boat and the D'Amato boat is anything but cold

9  Watered Down

1  Gosofar

7  Insubordination
