Santa Anita for Thursday 18 May 2017

OK card this afternoon. Let's call it a 6.5 on the 1 to 10 scale of things.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

4  Starlite Style   Hector Palma seldom rides Prat but he did in this four-year old runners last and she didn't hang in the stretch whatsoever....if she truly has gotten over her hanging habit (at least with Prat up) then she looks like a repeat winner here

2  Jennyway U Want It   needs ample time between starts and Puype shows patience and gives to her......these kind are reliable as the connections realize it will be awhile before they can race again so they need to be ready

6  Kennedie Sky   deep closer from the Miller barn should get a good trip with 3 of her 5 foes way in front of her by turn one.....that leaves little traffic to negotiate by turn one.....seems likely to be no worse than 2 wide on the 1st turn....still she will need one of her best eforts to take down this affair

race 2    average clarity

3  Mondaymorningblues   new sire might get off to a good start as the 3 gate works to finish of the a.m. preparation for this Miller 1ster are decent and suggest she is meant and ready for her MSW debut.......trainer & rider over the last 2 months have won 2 of 5 with the other three hitting the board....mom has tossed 6 winners from 8 stakes two of which were Stakes winners

4  Ismelucky   broke tardy and then showed plenty of life after that running 2nd in her MSW debut......back in awfully short rest for a baby......can she handle the rigors of that.......we shall see

7  Empress of Lov   Sherlock hasn't done much with his few 2-year-old 1ster's so far but he usually has them ready in these early races....works for this baby strongly suggest she has early speed......good time to use it........as in a 4 1/2F race

1  Dee Way to Go

race  3   average clarity

5  Louden's Gray   trainer has been in a prolonged slump but might jump-start things here as he drops this fellow 2 levels off of a decent 3rd at 16K......hopefully the trainer and his owners are hungry for a win as opposed to hoping their gelding has declined and they want him claimed

3  Aikau   brutal trip given by Guce or would have won his last by about 1/2 dozen lengths instead of running 4th.....hope the rider gets his act together today and that the gelding has held form

6  Madelyn's Wild Cat   last two races are better than par for today's level.....and par is hardly ever a bad thing unless you happen to be a pro golfer.......6F appears to be a good fit and might be a better distance than the 5 1/2F he has competed at in his last 2 races

1  Ajac

race 4    average clarity

6  Causa   record in dirt sprints  without the blinkers....(3 2 1 0)......like the confidence that Eurton shows in this three-year old as he steps him up in claiming for the 2nd straight time

1  Pundy   good gate horse including with the 1 post at 6 1/2F at SA......that bodes well for the bug boy finding the front end of this race with seemingly only one horse to beat out in the 7 horse.....and apprentice Evin Roman is coming off one hot week of riding

3  Interrogator   drops off of a voided claim......licences to steal or "claim me please"....last sure is strong nearly overcoming a very bad trip to win a 50K three-year old grass race....not sure what we get today but if we get the "licence to steal" he should have been top choice

5  Crafty Cowboy

race 5    average clarity

1  Van Courtlandt   toss out fig earned in last at 1 1/8 on the grass as it was a pace-less race where a final time fig becomes irrelevant.....race two back also at 1 1/8 is strong and somewhat hidden by a wide trip......recent improved 4F work hints he might be up to the tall task of handling a nw alw race following a Mdn 75K claiming race graduation

7  Fashion Business   last might have been the tune-up to get used to his new environment....switch to Prat supports the notion.....as does the distance of 9F offered here....should love the extra 1/8th on a mile as he won a 10F affair at two overseas.....albeit on the synthetic.....but he owns stellar grass breeding

3  Ritzy A. P.   horse fits fine here but Espinoza is slumping on the turf especially considering the caliber of his mounts........he seems due to wake-up any day

6  Sorry Erick

race 6    below average clarity

6  Fight Thru   last 3 of 4 races run at Santa Anita fit well in this spot and all of them are hidden to various degrees......Arroyo is not here today so you know Pedroza will be out to show Miller that he can get the job done has he seldom gets any mounst from the trainer

2  Gunslinger   last race set up pace wise for his late running style and there appears to be enough speed in here for the same to happen this afternoon......good history at the distance

3  Hot Paris Night   bug boy coming off of a very good week last week should be able to grab the wood on the 1st turn and sit close to the front......most of the mounts that Hollendorfer has given the apprentice have been live mounts

1  Above Board

race 7    above average clarity

5  Forest Blue   seems like a gret spot for Mullins and company 1st out following the claim and in a protected race to boot.......(8 3 4 1) at SA......(4 3 1 0) at the distance....yikes.....favorite should be tough if his form remains intact

3  Where Y'at Joe Joe   vastly improved in latest and the effort is disguised.....ran wide on a day the wood was biased.....likely feeling good for Glatt to step him up versus tougher....not out of this if he is

2  Swiss Minister   might be a very good claim out of GG as this fellow in 4 for 6 at SA on the dirt.....and 4 for 5 at today's distance......last time Brocklebank rode Raffy it made for a pricey winner

1  Finallygotabentley

race 8    above average clarity

2  Gee Street   race lacks speed and this Baltas runner might have the most......should sit on or near the lead 1st time in maiden claiming.......solid rider/trainer combo.....should be a major factor in the outcome of this race

1 Sally Simpson   another with a decent shot to sit in one of the 1st 3 positions early.....and.....do so in a race where that appears advantageous

4  Tammy's Window   1st time getting to run in a maiden claiming turf race following 7 run in MSW turf affairs......would have rated higher if it wasn't for Pratt/O'Neill being win-less in their last 10 (and maybe more than that)......hmmm

10 Queen Scheherazade

3  Christmas Carol

9  Tahitian Lodge
