Santa Anita for Friday 30 June 2017

Decent race card to start the last 5 days of racing at Santa Anita and then only one day off (yikes) and Los Alamitos starts up on Thursday July 6th. We will provide publications for all eight days of the brief summer meeting at Los Alamitos.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Hard Arch   good history 2 out after breaks.......and that is the case today and with the added a plus of racing off of a turf race.....race two back versus better is very solid for today's level.......red hot (and with a chance to win the title) bug boy Roman up

7  Principle Bob   another who has been facing tougher and who owns a very significant effort/fig two races back......only cost 10K at sale so the drop from MSW racing to md40K doesn't concern me very much

8  Cleanup Hitter   sprint - sprint route maneuver as well as the turf to dirt maneuver.......and with a very sharp drill with the blinkers taken off.............outside post but seemingly has the speed to clear most or all

5  Sagittari

race 2    average clarity

1  Tiz My Love   small move forward in her 2nd lifetime start to a par like effort....1st long.....1st Pratt.......and two decent works since her latest run only 19 days ago.....seems very primed for her 1st at a route.....right up Jerry Hollendorfer's alley especially with a filly

4  Utana   all three lifetime races are strong and better than they appear on paper....and they don't look too shabby on paper.....proven at a route whereas our other two selections haven't yet competed around two turns

3  Life of Illusion   improved recent work......Miyadi is a dangerous trainer with the sprint - sprint route maneuver and that is the case here......and a solid rider/trainer combo in Roman/Myadi

race 3   above average clarity

3  Little Bit Lovely   very solid 1st out following the Miller claim in her latest......pace and final time were impressive.......seems best on the hill and it will be awhile until she can compete on it again....so.....Miller drops her down and back into claiming with a shot he will lose her.....and..... Peter Miller will likely pull out all stops to have her feeling good and very ready

6  Summer Lady   just claimed by Machowsky who for the most part is firing on all cylinders.....his new shooter ran well  off of 4 1/2 month layoff and likely benefited from the race and can move forward today....not out of this if that assessment is correct

1  Pica   filly does well when given ample time between starts and Eddie Truman shows patience and gives it to her......and Truman is having a very good year at the tune of  a 22% win percentage

5  Not too Shiny

race 4    above average clarity

6  Where Y'at Joe Joe   lifetime best and somewhat hidden because of a wide trip on a day the rail was somewhat biased was his race 3 back with the blinkers taken off.....blinkers on for one race in his latest.......and now taken off for today.....two sharp preparatory works.....trainer is heating up.....hmmmm

2  Best Two Minutes   seems like a good spot to get a repeat win despite the move up.....retains Prat who like last time should get good position near the front.....same distance and another inside post which for this gelding is a plus.....2 for 4 at the distance

3  Out of Patience   sure likes the SA surface and this is his last chance to run on it for quite some time.......last win came 5 races back and it was the last time this fellow got to sprint on a fast track....that race was 7F......6 1/2 furlongs will do.....as will the hot apprentice with a shot at the riding title

1  Logan's Moon

race 5    average clarity

3  Show It N Moe It   good forward move in her 2nd lifetime race earning a fig the is solid for the given level.....and the works since have never been better.....sure appears to be the one to overcome

2  Two Timing Lucy   D'Amato 1st time starter appears to love the SA surface as the two drills showing since switching his training to SA from LA is vastly more improved.....new Cal sire in Smiling Tiger who I believe will make a decent producer of speedy sprinters

8  Sugartatsundown   nice 2nd in his MSW debut (which was 4 weeks ago) despite bumping at the start.....rather impressive he has been able to hit the track 3 times since and two of the drills are quite good.....not out of the win picture by any means

7  Hold That Smile

race 6    average clarity

9  Bird Is the Word    pick a grass race as any of his 4 run fit well in this spot......only was able to win one of the races but it was the only time he was not in a Stakes race ......and....... he won the race by more than 2L despite coping with one tough post (post 11) at one mile on the grass at SA.......9 post should be a piece of cake.........LOL

1  Double Touch   not much in last but his race 2 back is strong and it was his 1st in the USA and run off of a long layoff.....Dan Blacker gives him ample time between races to right the ship and lures Mr Stevens to ride who leads all riders in win percentage on the grass this meeting

2  Midnight Pleasure   shows plenty of talent on the dirt and has some turf breeding.....running 1st time as a gelding today and with some nice a.m. work showing.......and Sutherland/Ruiz have won 2 of 4 over the last two months and with one other hitting the board.....dangerous

7  Elwood

race 7    average clarity

3  Munny Spunt   last 5 races run between 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 furlongs: (5 3 2 0).....trainer Jeff Mullins is rather good getting multiple wins in a row out of a given horse.....going for 3 in a row here

1  Red Stitch   filly handled the one hole well in her last and was getting to the winner (our top choice) at the wire....same distance and same level.....two reassuring works since her last......trainer Mulhall has been cold......seems overdue

5  Flyin Artie   improved in her 2nd lifetime endeavor to win an abbreviated sprint race of five furlongs.....better a.m. since and a pedigree that should appreciate another furlong to work with....believe she moves forward again today....to what degree seems to be the ? mark

7  Yellow Bonnet

race 8    average clarity

7  Hotsy Dotsy   all three lifetime grass races fit well at today's lower level of racing.......and she showed much more turf route speed in her latest......better recent drills to boot....rather sure she is up to a good race this afternoon

2  Christiana's Song   repeat of her last her 1st on the sod would likely win this.....but.....she likely has slipped some physically as the barn is awfully quick to drop her out of MSW racing to maiden claiming following two lifetime starts where she showed promise......still she might be good enough even at 85% of what she showed in her last...... and....... of course I could be dead wrong about her physical condition

1  Gee Street   another who has shown she fits at the mdn50K level.....but......she has slightly regressed two straight races in a row.......needs to curb that today if she wants a shot at the circle of joy this afternoon

3  Californiasummr

5  Zillinda

8  Lethal Legacy
