Del Mar for Thursday 20 July 2017

Royal F J's  100th start this afternoon! Ten year old should be honored by Del Mar in some manner for it. Let's see if they do.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Finallygotabentley   both races since the Hollendorfer claim 3 races back are quite strong for today's level of racing......5 works since his latest on June 9th suggests the trainer is all business today as his new shooter races a claiming level lower than he took him for......handles the track.....handles the distance

4  Oh Newport   running lines hint that Diodoro made a bad claim but the work tab since the claim does not.....believe the trainer might have the trump card for this gelding......and......the fact Prat is up sure supports the notion

1  Bullet Express   Emd is one fast racing surface but 109 flat still appears to be awfully fast and that is what this three-year old ran in his latest running 2nd at 12 to 1 in a three-year old 20K claimer.....should fit here if he has held form and handles the Dmr dirt

5  Royal F J  START NUMBER 100  (have to love his mother's name - Perpetual Motion)

race 2    average clarity

7  Room on the Broom   seems as simple as this: in all likelihood her last won't do......needs a rebound to her race 2 back which should win this affair unless she dislikes her 1st ever race at Del Mar

6  Sassy Ashley   filly has moved forward the last two times in her 2nd out following a two or three-month break......and that is the scenario for today.....two recent improved drills support the idea

5  Yavrig   filly might be at her best at Dmr (4 1 2 0) and she gets one nice apprentice rider in Roman on her back for the 1st time.....but....she sure likes to hang with one win and 8 2nd's and 3 3rd's 1n 18 lifetime least the win was at Dmr

3  Honor Maker

race 3    average clarity

12  Speakers   nasty post but she earned an adjusted for trouble fig on June 4th at one mile on the grass that hints she might be in the win picture even with a wide trip.....and if Bejarano can work a decent trip from one tough post she will be very very tough if she has held her form

6  Easy Song   nicely improved in her latest with 1st time blinkers.......solid a.m. work since......likely will be full throttle from the opening bell.....very dangerous route speed horse might be graduating this afternoon

8  R Surprise Sunday   big awakening in her last her 1st on the sod in a race down the SA hill turf course.....jury is still out as far as if she can handle a route......we will likely find out today

11  Halo Ahead

race 4    average clarity

8  Shadow Op   Bruce Headley doesn't start many these days but when he does most of his stock is ready to roll.......with that in mind it sure seems to suggest that the stout work tab for this maiden 1st time starter is very dangerous especially for a MC20K

3  Gummy   1st out following the O'Neill claim - 1st time running with Lasix - 1st time running as a gelding - and this gelding's off pace style seems like a good fit in this race with plenty of speed.....a superfecta of good reasons to consider this horse

5  Clifton Beach   cut back of 1/2 furlong appears to be a does the fact she just put in one of the best works of her career just 6 days ago....should be in the mix from the get go

2  Malibu d'Oro

race 5    below average clarity

5  Path of David   love the way this gelding finished up his race in his latest coming home with a very strong late stretch run.....and the Dmr turf sure was  kind to late runners yesterday.....rider is coming off a big 4 win opening day

7  County Lineman   Cerin seven-year old gelding is a good fit at the 32K level......seems likely to get what he responds to as in a nice mid pack position......and he is 1 for 1 at today's distance on the turf at Dmr

9  Buymeabond   much-needed drop as this fellow isn't the turf horse that he was a couple of years's lower level combined with his good history on the Del Mar brass suggest he should fit at today's lower level

4  Woody's Folly

race 6    below average clarity

5  Hold That Smile   solid MSW debut for the given level both in pace and final time.....repeat of the effort should make her the one to overcome.....trainer Simon Callaghan is really getting good with young horses

7  Adroit   just purchased in May so Truman and company pretty much knew what they were getting......Truman isn't often ready with 1st timers but the works are decent and it seems significant that Desormeaux is up as he and Truman have won 2 of their last 4 with one other hitting the board in their last 4 starts as a team.....and mom has tossed 5 winners from 6 to start and one of them was Stakes winner

3  Mama's Kid   not a good break out of the gate and then ran a little wide in MC50K debut....connections wisely step up into MSW racing.......trainer Sal Gonzalez is a decent 2 for his last 12 with such a move

2  Miss Pretty

race 7    average clarity

1  Lajatico   both lifetime grass races run at today's 5F distance are par like efforts.......and she won her only 5F race at Dmr and did so dueling in solid pace......and she beat 11 foes.......good chance to be one of front-runners once again today......good post at 5F on the grass at Dmr

6  Tapped   2 for 2 in sprints......2 for 2 when not competing in a Stakes race like today......(3 2 1 0) with Mike Smith up......1st on the lawn put owns a good pedigree for it.....filly is hard not to like

3  Easy Grader   very consistent on the turf and that includes 2 efforts at 5F on the grass at Dmr......Bejarano should be able to get a nice stalking position......3 post won 9 of the 35 5F turf races run at Del Mar last year

8  Auntjenn

Long-shot consideration:   2  Indriya   five-year old mare usual out runs her odds to some degree and it appears that the shorter the grass race the better..;....they don't get much shorter than 5F.......jock knows this mare well......and he is a significantly more accomplished rider than who rode her in her two 5F turf races last Fall at Del Mar

race 8    average clarity

2  Willows Babe   a proven runner who steps up for her 2nd lifetime start and owns a fig that fits is often a very dangerous maiden claimer.......that is the case for this two-year old filly who is trained by Baltas......and his buddy Bejarano sticks around

3  Swanky Jas   1st time starters are not exactly in Keith Desormeaux's wheelhouse but this filly is training too well to ignore......a.m. work steadily has gotten better........seems to be peaking when it counts the in right before her maiden debut

1  Midnight Summer   Peter Miller 1st time starter is training well at Slr and Prat and his agent want the mount.....Pratt/Miller have won 3 of their last 4 over the last two months......hmmm

6  Acharnement

10  Ginger Street

4  Factorize
