Del Mar for Wednesday 26 July 2017

Not the easiest of cards to decipher as you can surmise from the "clarity ratings". Thursday and especially Friday were much easier to dissect.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Stealth Drone   believe Hollendorfer means business here as he drops this mare one notch below where he claimed her for 3 races back.....likely to take full advantage of her prowess at Del Mar (8 3 1 2).....solid riding apprentice should get decent stalk position

7  Kiss at Midnight   significant drop makes sense to me with only one win in 2016/17.....and she sure likes the Del Mar surface......or is it "claim me please"......we shall see

4  Pica   1 for 2 at Dmr on the dirt and in her miss you can toss the race out as the saddle slipped and she was pulled up......Truman is stout with the turf to dirt maneuver and that is today's scenario

3  Brooks All Mine

race 2    average clarity

4  Lambo Luxx   didn't see the big race coming that this 8,000 claimer put forth in his latest (and the strength of the effort was by the 2nd place finisher coming back to win)........but......if he is up for similar today he should be very tough to overcome

5  Golden Moon   six-year-old has been running OK for the 25K level or thereabouts mostly in the Midwest.....shows up at Dmr for Yakteen in this cheap claimer......obviously should be highly competitive if he has 4 legs left.....toss a coin

8  Hackleton   from 32K to 6K to 20K and now to 8K....what the heck is that all about......all I can say is that his last is par like for today's level.....and par is usually a good thing unless you are a touring golf pro

10  He'saruler

race 3    below average clarity

(AE 11 Del Mar Ann and/or AE 14 An Unusual Group fit if they draw in)

7  Salsita   3 for 6 on the lawn at Dmr and 2 for 14 on other turf courses......last which was over at SA on the lawn was quite good (better than par) considering today's lower guess is Hollendorfer and friends are willing to drop one notch lower than they took this mare for two races back so as to take advantage of her prowess on the Dmr turf

9  Miz Strawberry Dee   just claimed by Baltas who sure can move of a turf horse forward quite often....and if he does with this seven-year old mare she should be a major player.....and it is a good sign that Gary Stevens rides thru the claim

3  Arethusa   five-year old mare has had only 4 races since arriving from GB one year ago all of which were in allowance races....the efforts weren't bad but she didn't come close to earning her drop makes sense to cut the red ink......dangerous drop down for sure

1  Joyable

race 4    below average clarity

2  Luckiest   plenty of furlongs put into filly by Mike Puype and one drill sure catches the in 58:3 hg on 29 June at LA.....seems meant and well prepared for her MSW debut

12  Laynee   displayed talent in both lifetime endeavors but those races were on the synthetic at GG....trainer is 21 of his last 100 shipping....and he gets Bejarano to ride....should fit in this field if he can handle conventional dirt as well as the AW

6  Blue Over You   so so effort in her lone start back in June of 2016.......but her a.m. hints that this time she is going to fire a fresh strong race for Puype and the last work which is solid and seems quite significant as it was her 1st work ever on the Dmr surface

1  Rolling Shadow

race 5    average clarity

5  Two Timing Lucy   sure seemed out for air in her MSW debut......and then there is that gaudy 32% win 1st time in maiden claiming for D' since her debut are quite a bit better.......rather sure she shows what she's got this afternoon

9  Myrcella   solid work series for this Molly Pearson 1st time starter.......the work 3 back at Slr (46:3 Hg) is very fast for the given level of today's race......and mom has tossed 3 winners from 3 starters and one of them was a Stakes winner

8  Sapphire Kid   ran basically the same effort/number in both lifetime MSW races.......should welcome the class relief......should also welcome 1st time Prat who is 4 for his last 6 riding for Mr Miller

1  Tiz Wonderfully

race 6    below average clarity

9  Unapologetic   solid awakening in his latest and back to Smith who was absent for his last race......Spawr has had a terrific 2017 and can keep the good times rolling here if this gelding can handle the marathon distance of 11 furlongs.....Smith thinks he can as he shows up for his only mount of the day

8  It's The Ice   proven in a marathon (nearly winning this level in his latest which was at 12F on the sod) which our 1st two selections are not......don't see any reason that he shouldn't be a major player once again

6  Chewy Round Town   away since April but returns as 1st time gelding and that is rather interesting because if he settles down and relaxes more his 4th place finish (beaten by 3 1/4L for the win) in his 1st marathon could easily make for a 1st place in no wasted energy

5  Buster Douglas

Long-shot consideration:  2  Pacific Coast Highway  acts like and is bred like the 11 furlongs of turf will be a good fit......gets in the race with four or more pounds less to carry than anyone else in the race

race 7    average clarity

6  Hard Aces   two for two in 1 1/2 mile dirt marathon affairs and both were Grade 3's like today.....and one of the two wins was the 2016 version of today's race......also ran 2nd in the 1 3/4 G2 marathon om B C weekend last Nov at SA

4  French Getaway   slowly developing sort has really been on the improve of late and should be extremely "endurance fit" coming off of two consecutive 12F grass races......and gets plenty of weight off.......significant step up today but he sure appears ready for the challenge

3  Big John B   one for one on the Del Mar dirt...... and ......(3 2 1 0) 'at the distance"......Bejarano knows him inside out having been up for numerous mounts.......D'Amato trained.......a superfecta of reasons to consider backing this 8 yr old

7  Giant Influence

race 8    average clarity

4  Looking At Thelake   by far at her best competing at today's one mile turf distance......ran well versus better in her latest.......seems like a great spot to face easier and still be in a protected from claiming situation

2  Aura Rose   turf sprinter tries her 1st attempt around two turns of sod....right in the Richard Baltas wheelhouse........and she has a good pedigree for a route......she should get a nice ground saving trip

8  Jill Madden   1st on the lawn but she is very well-bred for it and has the potential of moving up on it.....and her two lifetime races in dirt routes led to a 1st and a 2nd place finish.....rider has struggled on the grass but at least he should be able to stay out of much trouble as this filly has plenty of early speed

11  Magical Lucy

5  Tammys Window

1  Party Hostess
