Del Mar for Saturday 5 August 2017

OK looking race card this afternoon at Del Mar. Be back with you on Sunday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Christy Jackson   seems best on the main track and gets her fanny back on it for today......all three of her lifetime dirt sprints fit well here and that includes her only one run at beautiful Del Mar

6  Privy   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE   speed type has some other front-runners to contend with but has the magic of one of the best apprentice riders to hit the S Cal in a very long time.....I wouldn't be surprised if Roman wound up with a Hall of Fame career........hopefully if he is that good he stays put in the S Cal circuit

4  I'm Sassy   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  very strong MSW debut in late May run off of some telltale strong drills.....that was not the case prior to his 16 July race when she didn't run as well but did show good speed.....but since she popped a solid drill at Slr.......latest might have just set up today's drop....if that is so - lookout

8  Anchor Baby

race 2    average clarity

1  So Elite   cuts claiming price in half today and his latest at Otp isn't too shabby.......works for this ten-year old for today's race are stout.....and why not drop as he is TEN.....and maybe most importantly Gary Stevens is willing to ride in an 8K claiming race

8  Tisdale   another willing to drop precipitously.....maybe in this case because of the ship and win extra money being offered......and the red-hot apprentice and his agent want the mount....and they are in high demand these days

7  Roman Tizzy   believe will need a rebound of sorts to have a chance versus our top two who both have a lot of potential to run a better than average effort/fig for an 8K claimer.....recent vastly improved a.m. work (and at Dmr to boot) hints he might provide one

2  Belisarius

race 3    average clarity

1  Wood Machine   9 furlongs of grass is more than this gelding wants to cover....but....that endurance building effort and the fact he is back in short rest should help his chances this afternoon.....he owns a solid "move forward" history back in short rest.....finally gets an inside post after 4 consecutive outside posts to deal with

4  Chris and Dave   Maldonado sure has gotten the most out of this front running type who is also capable of stalking the lead and succeeding......one for one at today's turf distance and the race was on the Del Mar turf

6  Unusual Meeting   seven-year old has won his last 3 of 4 turf routes and a couple of them were not the best of trips......seems well spotted by Mulhall 1st out following the claim.....and I like that she puts up a good off pace grass rider in Nakatani

7  I'malreadythere

race 4    average clarity

7  Have Some Pride   sure like that O'Neill and company spot this recent MC grad at a level where he can succeed........and he gets what I believe to be rider upgrade and with the 5 lbs off.....kid is good with speed.....he is usually patient not over using the "gas valve" too early

1  Getoffmyback   seems best of the off pace runners and gets first time Pratt......seems best at Dmr so Miller (as in did in his latest) likely has him feeling good to take advantage of the limited starts at Dmr's relatively short meeting

6  Red Carpet   cut back of a full furlong appears to be a good thing for this three-year old who has done little wrong racing less than six furlongs with the blinkers on

8  Curly Creek

race 5    average clarity

6  C Q Cover Girl   3 for 3 to start her career all on the dirt and then tossed a clunker.....but her a.m. work since her last is solid and she got to work twice on the sod which is the new surface she must tackle today......new sire is doing OK so far producing grass runners and mom has tossed a grass winner.....and the D'A got a good look at her turf action in those works.....should be in the hunt from the opening bell

5  Mai Tai   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE   very good history running "fresh" and she is 4 months fresh today......and she seems at her very best racing at the one mile turf distance......Desormeaux knows her well and does awfully well teaming up with his buddy Bob Hess

11  Cordiality   vastly improved filly since the blinkers were added.....and.....she just won quite easily down the SA hill grass course and did it off of a long layoff....that race should set her up well for today's turf route.....would have rated higher if it wasn't for one tough post to overcome

12  Jeremy's Legacy

race 6    above average clarity

2  Spectator   powerful MSW debut breaking slightly tardy and then running wide......won by more than 5L in 58:2.....tough to run a 58:2 with the kind of trip she had......and the race has produced 4 next out winners (yikes)......hard not to like this filly

1  Surrender Now   a perfect two for two and now gets a rider upgrade......love the solid 6F work put in by Miller to make sure she has the endurance to get the 6 1/2 furlongs

6  Diamondsandpearls   appropriately named as she cost a small fortune....but she lived up to her billing as she won her debut for fun.....but she beat little that day and didn't earn as strong of a Santucci fig as the top two selections......but as well-bred as she is she has a ton of upside potential

3  Dancing Belle

race 7    below average clarity

4  Bolt d"Oro    Ruiz 1st time starter didn't come cheaply at sale last year but he sure is working as if he has the potential of warranting the $630K shelled out for him.....we shall see about 5 p.m this afternoon

8  Impeachableoffense   very strong work regiment both at Slr and Dmr for this Scott Hansen 1st time starter.....the trainer has been dismal with 1sters in the past but most didn't work like this two-year old colt is

1  Flip the Coin   decent MSW debut and almost all of Keith Dersormeaux babies improve in their 2nd outing.....and his a.m. work since his debut supports the notion

6  Xten

race 8    average clarity

8  Avenge   best credentials in the race......2 for 2 at Dmr on the grass.......Richard Mandella is the conditioner........Prat is up and knows her well.........a superfecta of reasons to consider this five-year old mare

7  Cambodia   Proctor east coast invader just worked a "lights out" 5F turf work with the dogs up (58:2H yikes) indicating she greatly appreciates the Del Mar turf.....very dangerous sort.....to say the least

6  Pretty Girl   right behind our top choice in her last which was a solid Grade 1 affair.......and you have to like that Smith sees fit to ride once again for a low percentage trainer in Paul Lobo (1 for 36 in 2017)

4  Juno

race 9    average clarity

3  Stormin Monarcho   very consistent East coast invader sure appears to like the Dmr surface as his two drills over the surface are strong.......Eurton runners have been firing on all cylinders for the most part and I would be surprised if this fellow didn't as well

6  Curlin Rules   sure appears to need ample time between starts to run his best and Sadler shows patience and gives it to him......love these kind as you know the trainer likely will have them on edge because it will be awhile before they can run a "peak" performance once again......and Prat sticking around supports the notion

1  River Echo   much better individual since switching to dirt racing especially on fast rated dirt where he is (4 1 3 0).....and I like the rider change to Espinoza who these days does his best riding (by far) in dirt route races

4  Avanti Bello

race 10   below  average clarity

1  Kinematico   significant rider upgrade especially for a turf race.....should be in the mix from the get go.......and drops a couple of claiming levels......sure seems likely to be a major player

5  Captain Ron  consistent sort to start his career and he has two straight turf sprint races under his belt.....blinkers off for his first turf route likely to keep his early speed at bay.......gets in 10 lbs less than his last.......hot bug boy has had only one Achilles Heel to date ......that being turf routes...... but ......with good position near the lead and all that weight off it is hard not to see this guy being "right there" at the wire

6  House of Troy   ran green and way too wide in his return to the race wars following an extended hiatus from the game......should be much more fit for today.....and drops out of MSW to MC.....lookout if he settles down this afternoon

7  Amazon Cry

12  Waldorf

9  Street Rules
