Del Mar for Saturday 12 August 2017

Not the easiest of race cards to decipher. Be back with you on Sunday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Spinyatta   all three lifetime dirt races look awfully good here......seemingly just needs to hold form and handle her 1st on the Del Mar surface.....good rider/trainer combo in Talamo/D'Amato

4  Silken Road   broke poorly - veered - climbing (many lengths) in her debut......switches apprentice riders from one who has been out of control too many times to Laura Werner who is doing OK but being overshadowed by Roman......believe this filly can run some if she grabs hold of the track better

1  Pretty Expensive   exits a slow heat of MC20K's at Lrc but she did nearly win with only a so so trip......will likely need a decent forward move to win today if our top choice holds her form

6  Wicked Old Fashion

race 2    below average clarity

4  Frac Candy   might be a very good claim by Treece and friends of a four-year old gelding who does well in fast track sprints and who has done little wrong at Dmr ( 3 2 1 0).....and it is a good sign that Talamo rides thru the claim

2  Casuality   3 wins and 2 2nd's in last 5 racing endeavors.....and two for two running off of 5 weeks or less rest.....4 weeks since his last.........bug boy Solis needs a win as his business continues to shrink with apprentice riders Roman and Werner leading the way

7  G. A. Betting   one for one at Del Mar and the effort last summer run off of 48 days rest was one solid number........voided claim and a dull run in his last....but plenty of time off (68 days) to recover and drops.....and the meets leading rider sticks with this fellow

5  Airfoil

race 3    below average clarity

4  Girl Downstairs   toss out her winning dull time/fig in her last as you can't run a decent final time with a ridiculously slow set of splits.......broke the 134 flat barrier two back.....seems best on the sod at today's one mile distance......solid turf jock Nakatani stays up

1  Nodiac   D'Amato four-year-old-filly seems best at Dmr and with Prat on her back.....comes from far back in races at one mile but the small field should keep traffic to a minimum around turn 2 and the stretch

5  Sweet Dragon Fly   sprint tune-up in latest and it appears to have muscled up this filly as her a.m. work since seems vastly improved......Pedroza can get a nice stalk position behind the 2 horse who I obviously believe is vulnerable on the front end having not selected her fanny

race 4    average clarity

3  Rizzi's Honors   lone lifetime win was the only time the connections were willing to risk this filly for a tag.......and it was on a drop in class......up for a tag today.....and you guessed it.....drops in class.....and back to Baze who knows her well

6  La Galy   3 of her last 4 racing efforts are better than par for today's level and one of them (29 July 16) was run at Dmr.....and the last time today's rider Vinnie Bednar got the call she won by 9L over at SA

1  Sweetwater Gal   has some obvious physical problems but might be doing OK for Roman to land here....not out of this by any means if she is

7  Quality Kay

race 5    average clarity

4  Forest Blue   very consistent sort on the dirt ( 15 5 5 4) and it gets even better when racing at today's distance (6 4 1 1)......drop back to 25K makes sense as that is when Mullins claimed him for....buddy Baze gets the call and he knows him inside and out

3  Best Two Minutes   claimed in his last and since then has hit the track 4 times in preparation for today's race.....last is OK....what we want is his effort two back......nice 4 work series hints we might get it

1  Logan's Moon   consistent late running seven year old sprinter gets a solid rider change to Bejarano who can get the most out of a late running claimer

8  Alley Boss

race 6    average clarity

1  Chief Hosa   exceptionally quick out of the gate and the only sprint turf race where he exited from the one hole he won for fun to break his MSW at GG.....likely leader will need to be caught at a distance made to order for him

2  Tomasino   trainer is ice-cold be he got this gelding to run a solid race in the July 21st version of this race.....and it sure seems like a very positive sign that Prat sees fit to stick around for a trainer who has yet to find the Dmr winners circle this summer

3  Salient   tough post predictably led to a wide trip in his latest.......did fairly well to only be 4L behind the winner at the rider and a better post this afternoon.......should be a player if he holds form

4  Jet Set Man

race 7    below average clarity

8  Fantastic Girl   MSW debut runner went for some major coin in March so Sadler and friend got a good lookski at what they were getting....and Sadler is awfully good with young fillies

7  Piedi Bianchi   decent MSW debut at Lrc and might not have been all that cranked up as she went off at 7 to 1 in only a 6 horse field at Lrc for O'Neill and company......if she wasn't lookout today

9  Ms Bad Behavior   good new sire and Baltas is able to get Bejarano to hint she is ready to roll......does have to deal with a difficult post at 5F

2  Steph Being Steph    tie for 4th selection

5  She's Funny   tie for 4th selection

race 8    average clarity

3  Caribou Club   bad post led to a wide trip or could have won a Stakes race in his latest......scratched out of a Stakes race last weekend to go in today's softer soft......good post and a not much speed in here .......and he has some.....trainer is 5 for 10 at the meet.....hard not to like

2  Comma Star   cut back in distance and a having a touch of a little early speed should put this colt in the hunt for the winners circle as one of the most likely contenders to receive a good trip

1  Kencumin   GB invader has been off since 10 Feb but sure appears ready for Eurton and company off of some good a.m. work......especially important is his strong bullet work on the grass with the dogs up.......good post - good jock - bred to love the sod

10  Master Merion

race 9    average clarity

5  Serengeti   won by 11L to graduate and did awfully easily as Smith wisely left something in the tank for bigger and better things down the road like today's Grade 2

1  Run Away   nice forward move in his 2nd lifetime start......not out of this by any means if he progresses again today........Simon Callaghan has been impressive the last couple of years with his young horses

6  Fleetwood   nice MSW debut and trainer Keith Desormeaux is much more dangerous with 2nd time starters.....still a maiden but not impossible to upset

7  Arawak

race 10    way below average clarity

This is one difficult race to say the least. Little separate my selections and I could only find two toss outs in the race in the 6 and the 10.

2  Data Central

7  Arch Anthem

4  Pubilius Syrus

5  Kazan

8  Big Buzz

3  Landonese
