Del Mar for Thursday 24 August 2017

So so card this afternoon at beautiful Del Mar. Be back with you on Friday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Who's Hot   owns some significant early gas and should be difficult to catch if of course his health is still he is taking an alarming drop in claiming

7  Pumpkin Star  seems at his best on the Dmr surface.....latest is better than appears as he sat too far off of a pedestrian pace and still closed quite well.....carries 9 lbs less today....might come flying late

3  Levitation   likely gets a nice stalk position today behind our top selection and if our top pick falters this invading colt should inherit the lead and with Desormeaux on his back

6  Cupid's Beau

race 2    below average clarity

1  Idium    ran on the dirt for the 1st time in his 3rd lifetime start and graduated....that effort versus older fits fine here.......Gallagher is dismal repeating off of a maiden win but might break the mold here

2  Vibe   suspicious drop to some degree but Hess has been dropping and winning at this meeting and gets his buddy Kent Desormeaux to ride......tough strong vibe either way.......flip a coin type

4  Ucanthankmelater   decent history whena perfect 2 for 2 since the Lorenzo Ruiz claim Baze rides and he stays put with the one level drop in claiming.....should be motoring late

race 3    average clarity

1  Mo'vette   at her best at Del Mar so Baltas and company will likely pull out all stops today as it will be awhile before she can compete at her favorite turf course....and she seemingly catches one weak looking group for the given level

4  Gio's Lady   2nd lifetime start which was run last summer when she was two was a one mile grass race where she ran an effort that fits well here when you take in account that she is now a year older and logically should be about 5 or 6 lengths better from growth.......but of course she needs to be ready off of the layoff....tough call when it comes to that

8  Todos Santos   so so dirt race in last......nice dirt race two back.....claimed in her latest and the new connections see fit to give an opportunity at a route and the turf......bred just fine for both

5  Quinn Murphy

race 4    average clarity

2  Templar   a perfect 2 for 2 since the Lorenzo Ruiz claim.....likes contact to the front end of things and seems highly to get that here......appreciates a little extra time between starts and gets it once again today

3  Chips All In   8-year-old takes the plunge today as he is only a shell of his old self.....believe the 619K earner is doing well enough to compete in a 12.5K claimer....we shall see

6  Swiss Minister   Brocklebank is at his most dangerous when he brings a horse back in very short rest.....14 days since this gelding's last qualifies for that....and he drops.....dangerous sort

1  Lambo Luxx

race 5    average clarity

6  Artistic Diva   bought for $425K and she is a Land of Lincoln bred.......that is a big number for an Il-bred....connections had a good look at what they were getting as she was bought in April.....big works as you would expect.....decent turf pedigree

4  Orageuse   Mandella 1st time starter is training well enough to be a factor in her MSW has produced one winner from one starter and most importantly a turf winner.......Mandella owes Pratt a good horse as he has ridden far too many "going the wrong way types" with only 1 win in the last 13 mounts

2  Fracas   has trained better than he has run in two lifetime dirt races......sometimes these kind wake up in their 1st turf race......and this filly owns a decent grass pedigree

1  Silken Spy

race 6    average clarity

4  Twisted Rosie   repeat of her maiden debut will be very tough versus today's competition......hopefully Jeff Bonde can capture his 2nd win at the meeting but he sure has quite a few disappointing starts at the meeting

8  Helen's Tiger   nice forward move in her 2nd lifetime start....two very good-looking 5F drills since and they were on the Del Mar surface......another move in the desired direction seems to be in the cards.....hard to split top two selections

5  Ciao Luna   decent MC debut finishing 2 1/4 lengths behind our top selection.......not out of this if she needed the effort and returns as a fitter filly for Mathias and friends

1  Tiz Wonderfully

Long-shot consideration:  3  Dream Proof   trainer won yesterday's nightcap at a nice price and might surprise again today with this filly who broke slowly and ran wide in her debut....she finished with vigor and galloped out well......blinkers on to help her focus.....seems dangerous if the equipment change gets her in the game earlier

race 7    above average clarity

4  Midnight Swinger   Glatt is red-hot and good off of layoff's albeit better with sprints being run off of a layoff.......filly likes the distance and the Del Mar turf.....last two turf routes run on the Dmr sod (run last fall and summer) are strong for today's level and especially her effort at one mile....seems like a handful if she is ready fresh

1  Lookinforadanger   gets a rider upgrade and appears to own the best early speed in the field......and she is capable of rating and thus slowing things down......seems loose and dangerous

2  Queen Bee to You   fits well number wise..... and .....position wise in this field......likely to get a nice ground saving stalk position.....lone mount of the day for Arroyo seems like a plus

9  Tammy's Window

race 8    average clarity

2  Tiz Jolie   five year old gelding is by far at her most dangerous at today's one mile distance....last which was run at Dmr fits awfully well at today's lower level......and as stated earlier John Brocklebank is at his most dangerous when he brings a horse back in very short rest.....14 days since this gelding's last qualifies for that

4  Runasaurus Rex   solid race 2 back run turf to his last in a protected race 1st following the Glatt claim is the obvious turf gimme to drop with a little more muscle and...... go go go .....and Glatt is...... hot hot hot

3  Seal Six   one for one at the distance at Dmr....placed well to win following the nw3 16K score in his latest....last two wins were run off of 13 days rest and 14 days rest.......15 days since his last

1  Hackleton

5  Tribal Tribute

8  Broadway Nika
