Santa Anita for Saturday 14 October 2017

I sure believe that this is a good race card as you can tell by the "clarity" ratings. Hope the racing surfaces play fair like they did yesterday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    above average clarity

4  Clifton Beach   should be able to get a nice ground saving trip close to or on the lead and with the successful bug boy and his 5 lbs weight break up.......believe this colt is doing well as he now is putting in 5F drills where as before he was working 4F....good sign of decent health and it should help his endurance

5  Tiz Indy  both lifetime races with the blinkers on and racing on fast tracks at SA fit fine here.....that and they were both run at today's 5 1/2F distance....such a deal

1  Sixes    3rd following the layoff and I like the rider change......seemingly the jock can get a nice mid pack ground saving trip in hopes the race collapses in front of him

7  Royal Seeker

race 2    average clarity

5  Campaigner   2 of his 3 lifetime races are a little better than par for the level......and par is a good thing unless of course you are a pro golfer.......that and I like the switch in jocks

6  Jump the Tracks   25 to 1 for a Jeff Mullins 1st time starter has tune-up written all over it and that more should occur today for this two-year old MSW colt........and Mr. Mullins has won with 8 of his last 40 2nd timers

8  Touchdown U S C   very impressive work tab can not be ignored despite a trainer who is only 1 for 19 in 2017......sure appears ready at 1st asking.....hope he lives up to his name

1  Smart Knows Smart

race 3    above average clarity

4  Braddock   nicely improved since the Hollendorfer claimed 3 races back......and his latest effort is somewhat disguised by racing wide up on the pace......that and I like the last 3 tightly spaced works....should by all wound up and ready to unwind

6  Make It a Triple   4-year-old gelding has been very consistent since adding blinkers with only one dull effort in 6 races......and his trainer has had a very solid 2017.....all that and he might get loose on the lead in this spot

2  Informality   good rider/trainer combo over the past year or so in Prat/Carava.....both are struggling some so far at the new meeting but might help out their cause with this four-year old coming off a brutal trip in a 5F grass race......seems at his best on the SA dirt and that is what he gets today

3  Fire to the Wire

race 4    above average clarity

1  Radio Silence   Baltas is one of the more reliable trainers when he shows strong consider this colt ready who was one nice two-year in Ireland before he went country and plenty of time off to recover

4  Ample Sufficiency   sat too far off of a lackluster pace in last......and could have won the race if he hadn't been boxed and blocked about 3L.......1st time Stevens and that likely is a good thing the way he been riding the sod

10  Tristan's Trilogy   very promising grass horse in the Spring of 2016.......Peter Miller might have him back to that level if his stout work tab is worth a hoot.....lookout if he does

9  Start a Runnin

race 5    average clarity

2  Topgallant   Hendricks is 2 for 4 at the SA meeting and with another hitting the board.......gelding is racing at the lowest level of his career and should benefit from the 1 1/16th distance when many in here should not

7  Sumday Sumday   nowheresville in latest......big wake up race 2 back with some action on the board....none is his last.....could tricky Cassidy want a "price" might want to bet on it

1  Vow's Son   solid wake-up in latest and his trainer Mike Puype is starting to get his mojo back following a prolonged case of the doldrums.....newcomer Tyler Conner is looking for his 2nd S Cal win and might get it here

5  Kinsale Warrior

race 6    average clarity

5  Miss Sunset   very impressive with the blinkers off in turf sprints or fast track dirt sprints as in a perfect 5 for 5........1 for 1 down the hill and it was in a Stakes race......1st time Stevens.....plenty to like

1  Bad Ju Ju   Nakatani is an exceptional 9 for 19 at the SA meeting going into today.....and he has been especially brilliant on the grass course.....only race down the SA hill for this mare is better than in appears.....Miller is heating things up and is very strong with turf sprinters

3  Barbara Beatrice   giant works for this mare likely the best preparatory drills of her career......1 for 2 on the hill and the winning effort fits fine here....good grass trainer in D'Amatao and a rider who knows this lady well as this is his 10th straight mount on her

8  Moonless Kky

race 7    above average clarity

1  Individualist   alarming drop into low-level claiming....but......sure appears healthy enough as he worked 4 straight works with only 6 day intervals....that and he runs well fresh and is 5 months "fresh" today

5  Slasher   significant rider upgrade when taking in the consideration the 5 lbs weight break.......both lifetime sprint dirt races with the blinkers off fit very solidly at today's lower level......hard not to like

7  Pick One   wide trip on a solid rail bias hides his latest......and now like our top 2 selections he drops.....might have considered making him a higher pick if it wasn't for a slight tendency to hang in the stretch

8  Liberation

race 8    average clarity

7  Sheer Flattery   both lifetime races on the SA main track were at today's distance and peg him as the one to overcome if he is up to similar this afternoon......and Hollendorfer appears to be in "go mode"

2  Wild About Deb   often at his best running fresh off of the bench and he has been a bench warmer since June......and Pereira sure has been a good fit with 1 win - 2 2nds - and a 3rd in 4 mounts on him.....1 for 1 at SA albeit in the slop

5  Got Even   6 for 32 at SA on the dirt.....only other win came on the AW......speed is his game and that is usually more dangerous than it normally is with a good apprentice in the saddle......but most important of all is that he is working the best he has in quite some time

4  Camino de Estrella

race 9    average clarity

4  Halo Ahead   connections likely passed at running on the dirt at Lrc so I doubt this filly needed the time off because of a setback.....if that is true she should be at a (fresh) peak today.....1st time racing with blinkers.....1st time Nakatani

8  Battleground State   been a long time since Hall of Fame trainer Neil D. Drysdale was firing on all cylinders like he is right now.....last for this filly (her 2nd lifetime start) fits fine and today we get a significant rider upgrade especially for the turf.....very dangerous sort

1  Arunachala   last sure appeared to be a turf sprint public work-out over at Dmr to muscle up and be ready for her 1st at a route.....expecting a solid move forward this afternoon....we shall see

5  Promnesia

9  Gee Street

6  Hotsy Dotsy
