Santa Anita for Saturday 21 October 2017

Feel the same about today's card (Let's call it a 6 on the 1 to 10 scale of things) as I did about yesterdays which turned out OK.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Indavidualist   last race was run only a week ago at SA and at the distance of 6 1/2 furlongs (and he had the one post that day as well) and is a very solid fig/effort for today's higher level.....so can he repeat the effort off of very short rest?............hand ride home given by Elliot suggests he left something in the tank and that there is a good shot at back to back wins

5  Gentrified   broke poorly and ran wide on  a day the rail was golden at SA.......see ya Talamo.....hello Prat......not crazy about another drop as Sadler tends to give "nothing away" but maybe he doesn't realize how well his gelding ran in his bad trip against the bias last

3  Giro Candito   one for one at SA and two for three at the distance ......that and his endurance might be better coming off of a route dirt race......believe he moves forward 2nd out following the Saldana claim

8  Real Big Deal

race 2    below average clarity

5  Concur   expensive D'Amato 1st time starter is working as if he is ready to roll with plenty of works to build up his endurance....that and he also shows hints of some early speed........which should come in handy in this two-year old 5 1/2 furlong MSW

8  Curly's Rocket   Bob Baffert 1st timer is also training as if he is "meant and ready" in his debut....that and Van Dyke/Baffert have won their last 4 of 5 as a team.....yikes!

2  Greyvitos   trained well on dirt prior to his debut which was run in a very early 1 July turf route for two-year old maidens.......since that dull grass run he has once again trained solidly on the dirt and with plenty of good-looking speed works which as stated above should come in handy in this two-year old 5 1/2 furlong MSW race

7  Crazy Uncle Rick

race 3    average clarity

5  Spanish Hombre   blinkers off for today and a work tab that suggests the move by Baltas has done a world of good....and then there is the trainer's stout history with the equipment change.....as in 31% with his last 54....add to that the 34% with his last 32 2nd out after the claim

6  Conquest Sabre Cat   best at SA on the turf and also seems to be racing at his favorite turf distance.....and Hector Palma is quite dangerous 1st out following a claim which is the case today.......and you have to appreciate that Gonzalez rides thru the claim

1  Excessive Kid   just claimed by Baltas who is deadly when he legs up Nakatani.......1st time gelding as well giving him the potential to show more ......should be motoring late if he gets some decent pace up front

7  General Ike

race 4    average clarity

8  La Chepis   trainer Victor Garcia has been in a very prolonged slump but might jump-start his barn here with this two-year old filly 1st timer who is working as if she should handle the MC40K level if she runs like she trains.....and......by my book (both literally and figuratively) bug boy Fuentes is riding better than his record indicates

3  Willows Babe   four 2nd place finishes in four lifetime races where she never put her head in front and all with Bejarano up......bug boy Solis is up and he is riding well......but it might be a tall task to get this filly to pass and win......we shall see

7  Miss Kitaen   poor number earned at Lrc despite racing 2nd and going off at 3 to 5 in her MC30K debut.....but she appears to like the SA surface as her 1st work on it was improved over what she was showing at Lrc ....that and someone liked her to go off at 3 to 5 odds in her debut

4  Millie Joel

race 5    above average clarity

7  Tribalist   race lacks speed and this quality turf sprinter will likely sit right off of our 2nd selection and look to put him away in the stretch.....Espinoza knows him inside out having been up for all 7 lifetime starts

5   Richard's Boy  will likely go to the lead and try and hold off our top choice......definitely has a shot at the winners circle if Pratt can slow things down

6  B Squared   horrid road trip getting crushed at RP  & Mnr.....solid works since returning home......three year old sure seems better suited to sprints where he finishes well instead of flattening out.....trainer is ice cold......seems due for a big surprise

2  Gold Rush Dancer

race 6    average clarity

7  Mischievous Song   difficult year for Hofmans but he can get his 3rd win of the year here with this 2 yr old filly 1st timer who is working as if she is 100% ready for her debut......and the fact picky these days Espinoza rides a MC40K 1ster supports the notion she is meant and ready

8  Fracas   drop makes sense as this filly from the Simon Callaghan barn tries hard but has shown she is over matched at the MSW level.....doubt she is in a MC40K

5  Angelina's Heaven   exits a very fast heat at Lrc on 22 September and in the race she had a bad trip of about 6L of trouble/position.......better trip and a small forward move and she can be one of the main players here

2  Shook

race 7    average clarity

4  Cherubim   obviously a bad claim by Miller and company but the trainer might have given this gelding enough time to possible recover some and thus handle the lowest level of his racing career especially at a distance and racing surface he handles very well

1  Frac Candy    four-year old gelding appreciates ample time between starts and Spwar shows patience and gives it to him 1st out following a claim......the move is right in the trainer's wheelhouse

6  Lambo Luxx   only seems to handle one racing surface consistently well.........and that surface is the SA dirt.....should waken some today....to what degree is the question mark

2  Heir of Storm

race 8    above average clarity

3  La Force   bred much better for the turf than the dirt but tried the dirt anyway and really took to it in a big way.......fired her lifetime best by far and continues to train well on it......and the additional 1/16 of a mile to travel should be to her advantage

5  Spooky Woods   extremely strong efforts/figs for today's given level at the one mile distance.......at the distance of 1 1/16 she has run only one out of three that stands out but it was her latest run 1 1/16 and was at SA

1  Pacific Wind   grass races fit if she can perform as well on the main track....and her pedigree for it is just as solid for it as it is for the turf.......not out of the win picture here by any means

2  That's a Lady

race 9    average clarity

10  Temple Princess   quite the turf route MSW debut nearly winning with an outstanding time for a two-year old filly 1st timer .......same effort and it will take a tough trip not to take down this race.....if she moves forward she can still win with a poor trip......and.......Mullins is much more dangerous with 2nd time starters especially on the grass

9  Blessed Union   exits the same fast race as our top selection 4L behind him.......considering Richard Mandella is the trainer those 4 lengths to make up  just might occur.......dangerous if our top choice doesn't also improve

7  Scat Home Lady    Clifford Sise two-year old filly likely can respond to some time off as she raced 3 times in 45 days to start her career......race two back is solid and she likely will need similar and maybe a little more this afternoon

3  Polished

4  All Net

11  Casino Red
