Los Alamitos for Thursday 30 November 2017

Eye surgery turned out great so far with 20/20 vision in both eyes. And when I use reading glasses for studying the races I also see better than ever. My job becomes much easier and I hope that it will show next year. Thanks for the well wishes from many of you and the patience from everyone. It is much appreciated. Opening day at Los Alamitos which runs for three weeks Thursday thru Sunday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Pray Hard   seems like a terrific spot in a protected race for this six-year-old gelding who appears to be bouncing back physically speaking..........and the fact that Hollendorfer doesn't put him in another claiming race at this time supports the notion

4  Vodka Texted You   very consistent in the 2nd half of 2017 and this five-year old gelding has handled the Lrc surface quite well in his 2 starts on it.....dangerous sort especially if the top selection doesn't fire the race that I think he well

2  It's Just Bob   nearly surprised at a much higher level in a 40K turf sprint at Del Mar.....might be muscled up as only the grass can do sometimes....shot here if that is the case

race 2    average clarity

4  Well Measured   one of Jack Carava's stronger stats is running a given horse off of 90+ days rest.........six year old has been away 9 months and sure is training as if he is meant and ready to roll......last two times he ran off of long layoffs he "won for fun" earning big figs

6  Los Borrachos   might be a good claim by Saldana (who had a good fall meeting at Lrc) of a 32K claimer is good form.....1st on the Lrc dirt is a question mark

1  Logan's Moon   last race which was the 2nd out after the Hollendorfer claim fits fine......and a blistering 5F work 5 days ago hints Jerry has tweaked something for the better and that more is possible today

race 3    average clarity

6  Retts Glory   Miyadi seldom shows the kind of works a 1st starter usually needs to be successful in their debut.....but.......he often is ready when he shows a series of gate drills regardless of how fast the works has tossed 3 winners from 3 starters all of which won at two

3  Luke's On Fire   on the improve with each and every start.....last fits fine.....more would be icing on the all ready sweet cake

7  Papa Caballero   goofy work regiment for this 1st timer but it is hard to ignore a couple of her gate works which are awfully fast

8  Lipster

race 4    average clarity

5  Gotta Get Lucky   top sprint race of this gelding's career was run in his last and it was off of a prolonged layoff......he appears better at a route and gets one today.......trainer has done well with limited starters

3  Proud of Our Kids   away a year and 6 days but returns at a level where he likely is ready as he might get claimed.......trainer is 2 for his last 8 dropping multiple levels and with 3 others in the money.......that and he draws the highly sought after apprentice Roman

2  Midnight Harbor   sprint - sprint - route scenario for his 1st attempt at a route of ground......trainer has won one of his last four with the maneuver.......small one level drop should help.....last is better than appears in print

4  Go Ghetto

race 5    average clarity

1  Cat From Iraq   gelding appears very sharp right now ........race two back was the 14 Sept. version of this today's race at Lrc and is strong for the given's rider is an upgrade from who was aboard back in September

6  Bargaining   won the 14 September version of this 5F race at Lrc and with Pena up in excellent time for the level.....rider was polar at Del Mar but was runner-up in the standings at the last Lrc meeting and with a 21% win percentage

8  Dramatic Angel   solid wake-up in a cheap affair at LA both in final time and early speed......1 for 3 on the Lrc surface......trainer Kelly Castaneda is a decent 15% win stepping up multiple levels.....four year old is consistent when racing off of short rst.......19 days since his last qualifies for that

2  Shining Hope

race 6    below average clarity

1  Optic   very impressive a.m. work for the likes of Keith Desormeaux as he seldom works his young horses very hard........connections wanted a MSW race at Dmr last Sunday but didn't draw in from the AE list.......that might be a good deal as predictably this is a softer looking MSW field

11  Vision   Baffert 1st time starter didn't come cheap which is par for the course and he is working well.....that and it appears Bob scratched the 10 so that the 11 could draw into the our top choice he appears to be a very dangerous looking 1ster

8  Alternate Rhythm   solid 2nd place finish in his last his 2nd lifetime start and 1st at Lrc........and the effort is better than appears to some extent as he was wide up on the pace

6  Soltero

race 7    average clarity

2  Sallyanna   this race seems to be an excellent spot for this mare to utilize her speed......blinkers taken off for today and with vastly improved rent works showing.......good history at Lrc.....hard not to like

6  Irish and Lucky   appears to be an excellent spot to utilize his early speed.....blinkers off for today and vastly improved works hinting the equipment change has done as intended.....good history at Lrc....hard not to like

8  Forthe Lovof Patty   high percentage trainer in Craigmyle and even more so when he legs up Bednar (5 wins and 5 others in the money in 12 starters over the last 60 days)....races at Lrc are better than his (4 0 0 2) record at the track suggests

1  Sassy Rose

race 8    average clarity

5  Harrovian   lone lifetime win came the only time this gelding competed at Lrc with the blinkers off.......and the race was at one mile.......and a lifetime best to boot......such a deal

6  I Crushed It   Yakteen is coming off a cold meeting at Del Mar but that wasn't the case at the fall meeting at Lrc where he was 2 for 2 and one of those wins was with this gelding......three year old obviously has some physical issues but he drops precipitously and he can get loose on the lead.....thus dangerous

8  Alpha Uno   another trainer in Piccioni who had a good Lrc fall in 2 wins with 3 starters and one of those wins was with this fellow and like today he ran on opening day.....hmmm

2  Lucky Patrick

1  Bow and Arrow

3  Summer Buddha
