Santa Anita for Saturday 30 December 2017

I am not sure what the final new format will be for The Racing Digest now that Santa Anita has two pick 5 wagers and Super High Five wagers on every race that has 7 horses or more. That and if there are no winners it will be carried over to the next available Super High Five. So like Tuesday I have added additional horses in some of the races. A new format should be solidified sometime in the near future but not this week as I am swamped having to break down the positions of the extra selections.

Decent start to the Santa Anita winter meeting. Hope to keep things rolling with today's OK race card.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

4  Summer's Indy   first two lifetime dirt sprint races were very solid......the scenario for his next two racing endeavors goes like this: didn't care for the Dmr surface and then didn't care for a two turn route race........back in a sprint today albeit on the grass.....but she owns a pedigree that should handle it

5  Proud Heroine   set a brutal pace in her 2nd lifetime start which was on Oct 15th and rightly tired......did well to hang on for a 3rd place finish......blinkers off to slow her up some early......1st on the sod with a decent pedigree for it.....draws a fine east coast turf rider in Ortiz, Jr.

3  Sutro   26 Nov MSW debut is better than appears in print as she made her bid inside on a day the rail was a little dull.......like our top two selections she has never been on the green carpet but both sides of the family say that she should have a decent shot at taking to it

7  Hope Wins

1  Bella Be ready

9  Himmah

race 2    above average clarity

1  Peace   ultra impressive strong number earned in his latest which was his 1st at a route and only his 2nd lifetime start......the "real" number earned is supported by a gap of 8L to 3rd.....and his adjusted fig is "off the charts" as he ran wide and did so pressing the pace

4  Restoring Hope   Baffert colt fired a strong race in his own right just missing graduation by a nose in his MSW.......and should he ever appreciate a route of ground with his stellar pedigree........highly likely he came out of his race in great shape for Baffert to bring him back in 13 days with all the potential he has to be a "good one"

6  Midnight Soot   lifetime best and better than par for the MSW ranks was his only race at SA and it was at today's 1 1/16th distance.......usually the strength that he displayed at the MSW level would make for a top or 2nd pick.....but....the 1st two picks showed they might be something very special....this guy isn't impossible but easy to make as 3rd selection

2  Regulate

race 3    average clarity

5  Dad's a Gambler   consistent sort (7 1 2 3 1) overall..........new trainer took over in his latest in Papaprodromou and it led to this gelding's lifetime best.....small drop and retains Bejarano (who likely will be out to make amends following not the best of trips in his last) should make this three-year old tough

4  Pundy   Miller is never afraid to drop a given horse significantly to get to the winners circle and that appears to the case here....and the fact a top east coast rider is willing to compete in a cheap claimer supports the notion

1  Informality   woke up some in his latest in an abbreviated sprint of only 5F......seems to need 6 furlongs or less in order to win.......retains the highly sought after Edwin Roman and his 5 lbs weight break

6  Devils Informer

10  Sam Slick  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

9  True Ranger

race 4    average clarity

4  Elysea's World   last 4 turf races when competing at 9 furlongs have led to a record of (4 1 3 0) at the distance......and all but one of those races was a Graded affair.......and at the helm are one of the nation's best turf trainers and turf riders in Brown and Castellano

1   Penjade   another east coast invader from the Chad Brown barn has lost to and beaten her barn mate Elysea's World in the recent past and is by no means out of the win picture in this Grade 3 affair

6  Responsibleforlove   Hall of Fame trainer who is in the twilight of his illustrious career has bounced back to be a trainer to be reckoned with in 2017......Talamo might elect to send her early as there really isn't that much speed in the race....believe her chances are enhanced if he does

race 5    average clarity

3  Charlie Cowden   both lifetime sprints when you consider trip are impressive....but she does tend to break poorly......better beginning would make her tough if she holds held form.......believe she still can win if she breaks a little slow.....1st time Bejarano helps

8  Frabrication  nice race run after a 9 week break in the action and the effort is disguised somewhat......quite the reassuring 5F work since.......same or better seem to be in the cards today

10  Ridgefield Rocket   nice move in the desired direction in his 2nd start which was back on 28 October......away since but Mark Glatt is awfully stout getting a dirt sprinter to run at a high level fresh off of the bench

6  Moon Juice

7  Joejoe's Kingdom

4  Sharp Ruler

race 6    average clarity

5  Beaumarchais   might be feeling really good coming off of his 4th straight wire to wire win as he got loose on a rail bias in reasonable pace.....the fig earned sure fits well at today's level and he gets to run with 4 lbs less today.....such a deal

4  Camino de Estrella    woke up some in his race 2 back with 1st time blinkers.....then he really in improved in his next out also with the blinkers........seems much better around two turns than one.......Bejarano wisely (I hope) sticks around for a 3rd straight race

1  California Street   solid improvement to break his MSW rather easily.....he did it stalking a solid pace which also seems like the scenario for him this afternoon as well.......continues to work like a happy healthy individual for Gallagher and company

8  Donworth

10  Sheer Flattery

9  Avanti Bello

race 7    average clarity

4  Daddys Lil Darling   seems likely to save ground and sit 1st, 2nd or 3rd early in an affair that seemingly favors those that do........that is one dangerous proposition for the opposition when Mike Smith is at the helm

9  New Money Honey   Keeneland has a turf course that many good grass horses do not appreciate.....that appears to be the case for this Chad Brown filly as outside of two dull grass races at Kee she owns a turf record of (5 4 1 0)....and she is 1 for 1 at SA and with today's rider aboard.......also she is 1 for 1 at the distance

8  Rymska   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE   another very nice east coast invader from the Chad Brown barn who is attempting to make it 4 for 4 in 2017.....that and her lone race at SA is awfully good as she was beaten by only 3 1/4L in the FBCJvTurf-G1 and not with the best of trips.......very dangerous sort

1  Madam Dancealot

6  Beau Recall

7  Desert Duchess

race 8    average clarity

4  Masochistic   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE    Baffert has been ice-cold to start the SA meeting but might jump-start things here as he takes over the busted 2016 BCSprint favorite (Ron Ellis) who has an abundance of talent and now gets America's best dirt trainer.......works are fantastic as you would guess they would be....and this 7-year-old is 4 for 4 at the 6 1/2F distance

5  Americanize   (8 3 5 0) lifetime sprinting on the dirt and his dirt effort 2 races back at only 1/2 furlong more than today is very strong and supported by the fact he beat the 2017 BCSprint winner rather easily

8  Calculator   very dangerous if he is able to bring his "A game" which is about 1/3rd of the time.....recent a.m. work hints that he might be up to the task

6  Solid Wager

1  Silent Bird

2  Ohio

race 9    below average clarity

6  Fishel   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE    high percentage trainer might have gotten a little two ambitious in this fellows last two races following a win three races back racing 1st out following a claim....back where fits today......five year old does well racing fresh off of the bench where he has been for the last 2 1/2 months

1  South American   another who following a claim (John Sadler) has raced too ambitiously.....not the case today and a top east coast rider accepts the mount......dangerous sort

11  Urban Bourbon   seems rather set up with a couple of dull GG races.....races 3 and 4 back were solid fig wins in claiming affairs........when Morey uses a top echelon riders on "these kind" they are usually very "live'......and Desormeaux sure qualifies as a top echelon jock

12  Lewis Vale

2  Pound Piece

10  Airlite
