Santa Anita for Sunday 28 January 2018

Seems like a decent race card today. Be back with you on Thursday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Classic Atlantic   very solid MSW debut which like today was down the SA hill.......set a decent set of fractions and faded late to 2nd with a gap on 2 lengths to 3rd in a 12 horse field.......and Glatt might not have had her fully cranked as she went off a lofty 21 to 1.........if that is true a solid forward move seems likely

3  Sensible Myth  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  two 2nd place finishes both in MSW grass sprints to start her career and her 2nd out is the better of the two and it was run down the hill.......effort was very similar to our top picks effort which was run 4 days later......2nd choice mainly because I don't see as much upside for this filly as I do for our top selection

9  Onassis   good grass pedigree for this Miller 1st time starter who is working like she might be ready to compete at a high level.......rider is struggling in his attempt to break into the S Cal racing scene.......he more capable than he has been showing and best get his act together soon

4  Travieza

2  Spiel

8  Vinaka

race 2    average clarity

4  Madaras   seems like quite the pick-up by the Truman barn of a Florida colt who is on the improve......that and Truman appears to have him all wound up and ready to roll with 4 tightly spaced drills at SA since arriving in S Cal

6  Lucky Romano   all but one of the five races with the blinkers on are very strong at today's given level......in fact if they weren't taking the blinkers off and making a switch in riders (that is not a positive one) he would have been top choice

5  Zippy Groom   rider upgrade and with added plus of 5 lbs off.....the only time Roman was up this gelding won for fun with a big late kick in a one mile affair.......that late kick also showed up in her latest at 6F.......extra 1/2 furlong and with less weight should be a big plus

race 3    average clarity

2  Her Again   very consistent sort is dropping one notch and doing so for the hottest trainer at Santa Anita in Bill Morey (9 for 14) .......1st ever at 6 1/2 furlongs but the way that she has been closing at 6F hints that the extra 1/2 furlong to work with will be to her liking

5  Pica   eight year old mare has won her last 3 of 5 when racing on SA on the main track........and Truman almost always gives Bejarano live mounts when he rides him......like last time Bejarano should have her in the mix from the opening bell

4  Be a Lady   not really that fast early but might be fast enough in this spot lacking speed to open up a lead which would likely enhance her chances of getting the 6 1/2 furlong distance where she often gets flat .....bug boy and his 5 lbs helps too

3  Scathing

race 4    average clarity

5  Perfectly Majestic   tailed off last summer and seemingly needed a break that his connections wisely gave him........six-year-old has a good history down the SA hill (5 1 2 2) and in one of those efforts (4 March 2017) he earned an adjusted for trouble fig that was a Breeders Cup like number.......works hint he is ready fresh......as does the fact Hess uses his pal Kent Desormeaux

4  The Critical Way   four-year old won his latest which was his 1st on the SA hill and also his 1st on the grass......Nakatani sure appears that he will be able sit in nice stalk position behind our 3rd choice...........trainer Mick Ruiz has won 4 of his last 8 non-Graded Stakes with two others hitting the board

1  Fly to Mars   Peter Miller four-year old is a perfect 2 for 2 on the SA hill grass course and sure appears to be the controlling speed in the race.......if Roman can slow things down this gelding has as good a shot as anyone to wind up in the winners circle

race 5    average clarity

5  Allie's Love    both lifetime races are better than par for today's lower level  when you adjust for position and pace.....and the last is rather hidden as this filly veered at the start and then ran up to one fast quarter.......then she ended up wide on the turn......I gave it 8.5L of adjustment....she was beaten by 11L in a MSW.....MC 30K today.......rider upgrade......all systems go

1  Turing Machine   MSW debut run 3 back fits a ton here..........but...........bit of a dichotomy here as Ben Cecil is dismal MSW to maiden claiming........but.....very good off of layoffs of 45 to 90......both are the case here........something has to give

8  Angels N Devildogs   takes that ever dangerous drop from MSW racing to maiden claiming.........owns some decent early speed and might have as good a shot as anyone in the field of grabbing the front end

4  Mariana's Girl

2  Tiny Tina

9  Spacerika  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

race 6    average clarity

8  Foxy Fresh   layoff run in her last run off of a 13 month hiatus is much better than appears as she was wide up on a solid pace and rightfully tired........drops for her 2nd out following the layoff and with a solid reassuring 5F work put in 5 days ago......sure fits if she logically benefitted from her last and gets a little better trip

5  Ramona Lover   might be the speed of the speed and so far when she has been able to get to the lead she is (3 1 1 1).....that and G. Franco/ E Kruljac have teamed up to win two of their last three and with the other hitting the board

9  Majestic Diva   only lifetime win came turf to dirt and not only was it a 6 1/2 length win but it was her best career fig and by quite a bit.......turf in last.....dirt today.....and with 2 works put in since her 6 Jan. race.....hmmmm

4  Ransomed

3  Candy Boss

1  Diamond Proof

race 7    average clarity

6  Toinette   solid MSW dirt debut for this Neil Drysdale three-year old filly in a race run 2 months ago......copious works since.......decent grass pedigree.......Drysdale is better with 2nd time starters and more than capable "1st time on the sod"......she should be motoring late

3  Ladybug   Eclipse award-winning apprentice rider is slowly improving on the turf which has beenh is "Achilles heel" to some degree......three year old filly ran a par like race down the hill in her latest which was run 33 days ago....like that she has worked twice since.....same or better seems likely this afternoon

9  Rockin Ready   D"Amato 1ster has put in numerous works and she owns a very nice grass pedigree.....that and when Talamo has gotten the call on the D'A's stock the last couple of months they have been very live for the most part .......rather sure this filly is meant and ready

1  Stradella Road

5  Beyond Ambition

7  Fool's Paradise

race 8    below average clarity

3  Yuvesti   Sadler filly might have spent too much time racing on the turf as she stepped on the Lrc dirt in her last an ran a decent effort....she likely will need a little more today but the way in which she has trained since the 1 December race hints she has taken to the dirt in a big way

6  Conquest Flatterme   last is vastly better than appears in print as this mare had to duel 3 wide and do so coping with a hot pace.......Cerin must like what he sees in the a.m. since as he steps her up into an alw race and enters for 40K to not blow the condition......should be in the hunt from the get go....and go off a handsome price

1  Wedding Blush  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  six-year-old mare was just claimed by Hollendorfer at GG where she has been firing some her best races ever when competing on the AW......and she might be better on conventional dirt.....if she is lookout here

2  Bar Scene

7  Phantom Proton

8  What What What

race 9    average clarity

6  Pali High   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE two straight bad trips in a row following a near miss 2nd in his MSW.........better grass rider up today.....like the quicker works put into him to help him adapt to a sprint down the hill following 3 lifetime turf routes to start his career

13 AE  Jungle Warfare   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE very strong 1st ever down the SA hill in his last....and likely feeling great as he ran just 3 weeks ago yet has worked nicely 2 times since.....better grass rider up today......sorry Mike Smith fans

1  Bartlett Hall   first time racing as a gelding and just what you want to see as in vastly better workouts.......rather sure this three-year old will fire a significantly better race....to what degree is the ? mark

2  Concur

3  Fibonacci

5  Epical

7  Samdar
