Santa Anita for Friday 2 February 2018

Because of the early post for the Super Bowl our selections will be posted no later than 8 a.m. pacific time on Sunday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    above average clarity

2  Lucky Student   mare does her best running at SA and at today's 6F distance......appears to have the lead in this spot.....meets leading rider stays up....hard not to like

4  Devil's Beauty   typical Jacobson move in S Cal as in drop multiple levels following a claim.......and it appears his claim is in good form.....very dangerous

1  Tiz Deliteful   filly seldom repeats good back to back efforts but if she does today she has a shot at winding up in the circle of joy for the 1st time since mid summer

3  Forthe Lovof Patty

race 2    average clarity

8  Proper Drink   almost always like when a new trainer takes over a given horse and the connections are willing to drop.....away since August but showing a very solid series of works.......and appears to own the most early speed in the race.......gate to wire win might be in the cards

4  Solar Corona   last two races fit and I like that her latest was at 7F as it should help out her ability to finish with some energy cutting back a full furlong.......she does show some signs of liking to hang so it was easy to make her the second selection instead of the top pick

1  Dizzy Diva   new trainer today in Hofmans who is only 1 for his last 35 with 3 month or greater layoffs.......but.....all 4 lifetime races for this filly fit fine here.....so.......maybe........he breaks the mold today

6  Veiled Heat

3  Radio Chatter

race 3    average clarity

7  Impetu   nice works prior to his debut and he ran OK in a race down the hill...... but.......running a blistering 1/4 mile did him in.......continues to work like he has talent....takes a small drop......good trainer and rider can get it right the 2nd time around with the help of a little softer competition

5  Optic   both lifetime races are better than they look.....and his pedigree suggests that the grass is better for his chances than the dirt......dangerous brother team at the helm

4  Sellwood   dangerous looking work regiment for this Mullins 1st time starter....both speed and endurance has been put into this colt......hinting.......he is meant and ready to roll at 1st asking.

1  Roaring Fork

6  El Asesino

9  War Link

race 4    average clarity

4  Rprettyboyfloyd   there seems to be enough speed in this race to play into the hands of this mid pack runner.......that and O'Neill is awakening and sees fit to drop this gelding one small level......should be tough coming for home

1  El Super   both lifetime wins on the dirt were with today's rider Martin Pedroza in the saddle........Pedroza will likely gun from the rail to get a jump on the 2 and 3 horse who also own good route speed........decent rider trainer combo in Pedroza and Mulhall

3  Kristo   Lorenzo Ruiz is awfully dangerous 1st out following a claim as in 7 for his last 32......Kristo seems at his best at 1 1/16 yet he seldom competes at the distance.......bug boy needs to avoid getting caught wide with two speed types inside of him

race 5    average clarity

6  Laynee   very bad trip (broke poorly and ran wide) hides a good 1st ever down the SA hill grass horse.......blinkers on today to help focus....and Bejarano sticks around.....seems tough here if the equipment gets this filly to settle better

3  Batiquitos   plenty of life/ability displayed in all 3 lifetime races including one on the turf....but she has had trouble out of the metal monster....lookout if she gets things right this afternoon

1  Li'l Grazen   last on the dirt is quite good and deserving of a shot in an allowance race....1st on the sod but she is bred decently for it especially on her father's side of the equation.....Roman knows her inside out as this is the sixth straight mount on her

7  Winemenow

4  Promnesia

8  Bella Sierra

race 6    average clarity

1  Longden   nice awakening for this Baffert three-year old in his latest in his 3rd lifetime start and 1st in a sprint at the distance of 7F........1st two starts were so so route races but the fact that the world-class trainer still wants this three-year old to go long tells me he has tweaked something for the better and that his youngster should handle two turns this time around

6  Restoring Hope   double barrel action from Baffert as he also trains our top selection........this Baffert colt has really trained well since his 3rd place finish in the 30 December version of this race........rather sure he moves forward today and approaches his sprint debut effort/fig which is better than par

2  Mo Over   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE    par like endeavor in a one mile grass race 4 weeks ago.......and a par like effort in his 6F sprint dirt debut on 25 November.......so.......he showed he can handle the two turns and he showed he can run well on the dirt.......that and his pedigree screams "long on the dirt"

4  Jimmy Chilla

9  Heartfullofstars

3  Art's Table

race 7    average clarity

9  Hank the Tank   all of his 5 lifetime races on main track surfaces fit here and his latest was the 31 December version of this race where he did well to run 3rd in a fast heat (for the level) ......he broke slightly tardy and then ran 3 wide up on a decent pace.......rightfully tired.......should get good position stalking the lead

6  Kenny Benny   3 wide duel for this William Morey five-year old and he still managed to win.......trainer is "white-hot" (9 for 15 at the SA meeting) right now with many of his horses popping "top" efforts.........don't stop now Bill

4  Rick's Dream   consistent sort exits the same fast heat as our top choice but with a decent trip........the extra 1/2 furlong to work with today appears to be a plus and might be a major factor in his ability to take down this race

7  We Go Now

3  Cal Cal Li Gowchis

5  Flash Henry

race 8    average clarity

10  Little Bit Lovely   latest race run at one mile on the grass is very strong and more than good enough to handle the step up of one level......cut back in turf distance is usually a positive especially for a multiple winner down the SA hill which this mare happens to be.......all that and two very reassuring sharp drills since her last

1  Wonderful Lie   seems sharp right now and back to Roman after being absent for a race .....and although he is still learning the ins and outs of the grass he has looked good on this Hollendorfer mare on the grass......and he won from the one post in a race down the hill two races back

9  Time for Ebby   one of two grass races that this mare has run fits fine and that one was run at five furlongs........the one run down the hill does not......deserves another chance on the unusual configuration?.....why not

7  Peach Cove

4  Adios Cali

5  Miss Boom Boom
