Santa Anita for Thursday 8 February 2018

A little extra for your money (purchase) the next two race days as Friday has 9 races and Saturday has 10. I best get busy.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

9  Nothing But Heat   useful educational MSW turf route .......prior to the race she was fractious in the gate (not a good thing very often).......if she settles down and behaves today with her positive turf rider change she has a shot in this spot.......especially with the cut back in distance

6  Wishful   exits the same 20 Jan. race as our top the race this three-year old filly flashed good early speed and then tired.......1st on Lasix and with a solid 6F work showing........should be in the hunt from the get go in a race where I don't see too many speed challengers

7  An Eddie Surprise   most turf experience in the race and might appreciate the cut back in distance........O'Neill is doing fine right now following a dull start to the SA meeting

1  Pegasus Party

3  Prefect Portrait

4  Dee Way to Go

race 2    average clarity

5  Swiss Minister   plenty of speed signed up should play into the hands of this mid pack runner.........5 for 9 at SA on the dirt......and 4 for 8 at today's distance........jock knows this five-year old well as this is his 8th straight call on the gelding

3  Gigantis   following 4 consecutive solid races this Bruce Headley gelding fired a bad race in October........been absent since...... but...... has returned to the race wars with a prolonged good looking work series........proven fresh.......likely a player here

6  Protando   turf to dirt......blinks off.......and back in very short rest of only 12 days......seems slightly better these days on the sod but still dangerous considering all the changes made and how well the trainer has done in 2017/18

race 3    average clarity

3  Kentan Road   Joe Talamo can get the jump on the "raw" apprentice who rides the one horse........and if Talamo gets away he might.................go..................all..................the...................way.......way to go for the crazy Philly fans that is another matter

6  Lil Grazen   mid pack runner seems best racing at today's six panels........race two back at 6F and at Santa Anita is very strong.....but can this filly handle the rigors/stress of only 6 days rest.......few can.....but maybe returning so quick off of a grass race will be a little less stressful than if she attempted it off a dirt race

4  Fair Regis   Carnak says:  path to the winner's circle goes like this:  1 and 3 duel hard and the 6 doesn't handle the grueling task of racing off of 6 days......thus Bejarano comes flying by them all late in the race

race 4    average clarity

7  Coronado Cool   talk about a consistent mare.......she is (11 1 5 5) on main track surfaces and 4 of those were at SA......and she seems at her best in sprints.....might be a hanger of sorts but it is difficult to tell despite her record that hints she might be

2  Tee Em Eye   last time this mare was able to run with as short of rest as 4 weeks she won for fun at Dmr on the 26th of August in a 16K nw2.......4 weeks rest for today's 16Knw3........same apprentice rider up.....hmmm

1  Divine Spark   last somewhat seems like a fall off in form but really wasn't as she raced way too wide and still finished well......likely has remained in form but she loses the meets leading rider and his bug boy break in the weights........still she has a shot at the circle of joy but she was easy to make our 3rd selection

4  Pomp and Party

3  Sally Simpson

race 5    average clarity

6  Glorious Crown  both lifetime races are solid and would be tough here provided this colt can run as well on his 1st ever on the sod.........and his.pedigree to handle the turf is very good

1  Captain Ron   laid up since August and returns with a sporadic work tab which doesn't exactly exude confidence......but she owns the best credentials down the hill and might open up a very dangerous loose lead

4 Kopitar   suspicious looking drop especially since the D'A goes to a seldom used jock who is only 1 for his last 35 riding on the lawn.....but on the other hand the works sure look solid and the cold trainer could use a win.......tough call

5  Secret Bend

7  Harliss

race 6    average clarity

6  Black Tie 'n Tails   since Peter Miller took over the training duties of this gelding following a 6 Nov claim every dirt race that this gelding has run fits well the question is whether or not this is a "claim me please" proposition or the connections just want another win and are willing to give a relatively sound horse away

10  Bargaining   last three racing endeavors fit with his latest quite hidden.....that and the cut back in distance appears to be a plus.....high percentage trainer to boot

3  Stoneys Mr Cruiser   another dropping down and in his case it appears his physical condition isn't as questionable.......trainer Treece has been holding his own these days when he races at the "big track"........good history for his gelding at the distance (5 2 0 2)

7  Mr. Louis

5  Indavidualist

1  Rim Ditch

race 7    average clarity

1  Magic Musketier   Desormeaux appears as if he can sit in the garden spot stalking or sitting mid pack fairly close up and saving ground......following two racing endeavors in Stakes races this Hollendorfer colt gets to run in an allowance race for the 1st time since he took over the training duties a couple races back....should be tough facing softer

6  Kylemore   last time this colt saw grass was 3 back in October and he ran a very strong effort/fig racing way too wide on both turns.......Eoin Harty is good 3rd out following a layoff which is the case today.......that and the three-year old gets the most accomplished rider on his back that he has ever had.....trainer means business

8  River Boyne   ironically fig wise his race 2 back where he ran second in a MSW is better than par for today's higher level whereas his 5L MSW breaking win in his latest is not.......but he did win awfully easily so there might be plenty of horse left in the tank for today

3  Move Over

5  Tap Fever

9  Buckstopper Kit

race 8    below average clarity

3  Bragging Rights   owns some good early speed provided she exits the metal monster better than she has in her 1st 2 lifetime races......that and the abbreviated sprint distance of 5 1/2 furlongs appears to be a good fit

1  Ocean Bound   7 lbs apprentice rider Franklin Ceballos appears to be a decent rider and he gets a filly with some early speed and the one post which I like these days at 5 1/2 furlongs......that and his filly drops again to enhance her chances of winning.......and she has the right to move forward back in short rest for the 1st time

11  Cinnamon Twist   seems like a suspicious drop from the top to the bottom maiden ranks for this filly who went for 200K in April of 2017.......especially since she has yet to have run on conventional dirt which she owns a good pedigree for......flip a coin type as far as her good health is concerned

5  Starship Treasure

7  Lanacakes

2  Magnificent Q T
