Santa Anita for Friday 16 March 2018

Special publication for Florida Derby day on the 31st of March is now sale for a very limited time where you will save $5 on your purchase.

I see that rain is still a possibility so here we go again as in more handicapping. As far as I know The Racing Digest is the only publication in Southern California that gives you (late breaking) selections for the dirt in the grass races if rain is in the forecast.

Today's card seems decent as does Saturday's.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

1  Southern Treasure   seemingly best of those that can win from off of the pace.......trainer Rosemary Trela does a heck of a good job of getting her limited starters to the winners circle

2  Tiz Deliteful   another off pace type........trainer is 35% dropping a given runner multiple levels like he is here.......like our top selection the connections will likely have their fingers crossed that the two speed-balls (4 & 5) in this affair push each other hard from the get go

5  Herunbridledpower

race 2    average clarity

3  Silverspun Pickup   nice improvement in her latest more than deserving of today's step up of two claiming levels.......and two of her three works since her 15 Feb win are improved and suggest she once again is ready to produce a solid effort

2  Line Drive   only time that this three-year old filly was able to open up a loose lead she won by 17 lengths......she appears to be the speed of the speed here......like the change in riders even with Roman no longer an apprentice rider and losing his 5 lbs weight break

4  Krissys Manicure

race 3    average clarity

if the race is taken off the turf and moved to the main track:  4-3-8-6-2

4  Princess Areni   steps up from MC30K to MC75K for her 2nd lifetime start following a nice 2nd in a very fast time for the level on 16 Feb......and in that race she broke tardy and rushed up......adjusted for trouble Santucci fig worked out to be 2L better than par for today's higher level......1st on the turf is a ? mark but Baltas is awfully good judging if a given horse can handle the sod

6  Ladybug   lifetime best was the only time Van Dyke rode this filly down the majestic SA hill grass course.....he is back up today after being absent for a race.......and Richard Mandella sees fit to drop this filly out of MSW racing for the first time

3  Sea Glass

8  Sweet Catarina

2  She Beat the Fire

race 4    average clarity

2  I'll Wrap It Up   6 of his 7 races run in 2017 sure look awfully strong here......if of course he is fit and ready following an extended hiatus from the game.......he does appear wound up and ready to roll off of some tightly spaced works.....and the last time he returned following a long layoff he won by 4 1/4 lengths

3  Bedeviled   well placed in his attempt at a 3rd straight win.......and that win might be in the cards as the last two times this fellow ran turf to conventional dirt he was victorious

1  Muchos Bsos

race 5    average clarity

4  Life's Blessings   fell off quite a bit in her latest but her effort prior to that is very strong and totally hidden by a wide trip on a rail biased day and she also was up on the pace.......amazing run to only lose by only 1/2L..........sprint-sprint-route scenario for her 1st in a distance race.......and Mr Baffert 18 of his last 50 with the maneuver

2  Night Time   after two straight grass races at SA since arriving from Argentina Marty Jones places this gal on the dirt where she is (6 3 1 0) while she is (5 0 0 1) on the turf.........it's not rocket science

1  Not Now Carolyn

race 6    average clarity

4  Lewis Vale  seven-year old has some obvious physical problems but Reed Saldana got a winning race out of his gelding dropping him from 25K to 10K first out following the claim.....so why not pull off another alarming drop to 6,250 which is the new bottom claiming level at SA

6  El Super   back to Pedroza after being absent for a race......the jock has gotten the most out of this gelding.......and in general is quite dangerous when teaming up with Mulhall......like our top selection the drop is alarming but at 6,250 her physicality might not matter

2  Winning Causeway

3  Tribal Jewel

race 7    average clarity

if the race is taken off the turf and moved to the main track:  12AE-2-6-7-9-3

2  Toinette   ultra impressive in her latest her 2nd lifetime start and 1st on the grass.......bumped and squeezed at the start and then ran wide......ran an adjusted for trouble Santucci fig that is 4L better than par for today's higher level......so if she handles her first adventure around two turns which her pedigree suggests she should she likely will be one tough cookie

7  Ms Peintour   very solid winning MSW debut in a two turn 7 1/2 furlong grass race at GP in December......but nowheresville for her 1st start with Koriner as her trainer in her 2nd start in a Feb 4th one mile turf race at SA.....but beware as the trainer might have discovered something his new filly needs as her works are quite a bit improved of late

1  Silken Spy

8  West Palm Beach

6  Mapit

9  Ms Dupree

race 8    average clarity

2  Over Promised   four-year old gelding racing on the east coast has been away for over a year but has a series of drills that scream ready......and if that is the case he appears solid in this bottom level maiden claimer........invading east coast trainer is on fire as in (13 5 1 3) at SA

5  Royal Seeker   two of his last three races fit decently and they were the only two times he has raced as low as MC16K.......that and he has worked three times since his last and that includes a bullet 3F work only 3 days ago.......feeling good when it counts the most

7  Awesome E K

8  Hack

3  Magical More
