Special publication for Florida Derby day on the 31st of March is now sale for only a couple of more days where you will save $5 on your purchase

Take note that there is a very early 11:30 a.m. start to the races at Santa Anita today.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Just Be Held   might get very loose on the lead in this spot and with 7 lbs less to carry than her 5 foes (5 lbs for the bug boy and 2 more lbs for entering for 22.5K) in the field........apprentice Ceballos should now dominate the apprentice riders with Roman no longer a bug boy

4  Empress Rules   last dirt race was 3 back and is better than appears in print......might feel really good coming off of two route grass races......major rider upgrade to boot.......hard not to like

3  Mining Diamonds   five-year old mare ran very well fresh off of the bench last year for Miller.......can she do the same for Dollase......we shall find out very early today at about 11:30 in the morning pacific time

race 2    average clarity

5  Jill Madden   toss out last as the track was off and apparently not to her liking........race 2 back fits well at today's slightly higher level as she was loose setting a decent pace but on a dull rail......did well to hang on for 2nd.....full throttle from the get go for Pedroza who seems to realize this gal needs a loose lead to perform well

6  Rosie My Rosie   very suspicious drop to 8K following a win at 16K......prior to the 16K she was a voided claim in a 25K.....toss a coin type......despise trying to handicap these type

3  Honor Maker   could have won 1st out following the claim by Castaneda and company if it wasn't for a wide trip.........drops one claiming notch back to the level she was claimed for......and does so with a significant rider upgrade

race 3    below average clarity

5  Crazy Uncle Rick   2 of 3 lifetime races fit well in this spot and that includes his latest on 11 Feb at SA where he dueled on a dead rail in decent fractions for the given day.........1st time in a MC albeit a high-priced one......dangerous speed rider up in Maldonado who seems due to get his mojo back any day now

6  Mongolian Groom   trainer often isn't ready with 1st time starters but the a.m. work for this colt is too good to ignore.....both times at the SA meeting that Ganabat rode Bejarano his horses were very live........and.......Raffy won 3 yesterday

3  Nova   away since early Nov but training as if he has never been better and gets a rider upgrade.......the start might be the key as he hasn't done too well breaking out of the metal monster so far

race 4    average clarity

7  Risky Proposition   very solid 1st on the grass in his last vs. tougher........if he holds form and handles the 2 two turns of turf he stands out would think that he would with his pedigree and the fact that he won at 7 furlongs in his debut

4  Zippy Groom   seemingly in decent form and he has shown he can run on the turf with a solid 2nd down the hill 2 races back.....that and he has also shown he can be successful around two turns with a win last fall in a one mile dirt race

1  Gray Admiral   nice move forward in his 2nd lifetime start breaking his maiden in his 1st on the grass and 1st at a route.....not impossible if he manages to build on the effort

3  Touchdown U S C

6  Black Site

race 5    average clarity

4  Shining Admiral   best at 5 1/2 furlongs running 2nd twice in two races at the distance........those races were at the MC20K's race is at the MC20K level and at 5 1/2 furlongs........trainer is often his best route to mile race in latest......filly seems poised for graduation day

7  Dizzy Diva   last two races fit fairly well in this spot......attempts to race off of very short race.......can she handle the stress ......we shall see around 1:30 p.m.

3  Radio Chatter   toss out latest as she likely didn't care for the off going..........popped her lifetime best two back......needs a rebound to that effort to have a decent shot at the winners circle here

1  Yalla

race 6    average clarity

1  Spectator   very special sprinter so taking on older at the nw2 alw level doesn't bother me much.......and today for the 1st time in her three race career she gets a top echelon rider on her back.........away since September but training as if she is ready at 1st asking

2  Phantom Proton   (3 1 1 1) sprinting at Santa Anita without the blinkers......and seemingly she has never been sharper.........and her trainer Neil Drysdale is having his best SA meeting in many a moon

3  Yuvestsi   seems to have found a new home after 5 lifetime turf races to start her career.......that home is the dirt.......likely needs her best ever to have a shot at taking down this race..........recent works hint she might be up for it

race 7    average clarity

1  Tony Blackjack   race two and three back were wins and might do the trick here......but......he sure appears up for more as his recent one mile grass race sure seems to have muscled him up as he worked one strong 5F bullet since.......believe he is ready for his best ever

3  Stringent   started his career very promisingly with two solid wins in very fast time........had to be laid up a very long time following those two efforts and never found himself in 7 races.......laid up again (since August) but this time around he is working like he might find the magic he had at SA in 2015

5  Quality Line   might be best at 6 1/2 furlongs and just popped a best of 68 5F bullet work at SA 10 days ago........trainer is quietly having a stout SA meeting.........dangerous sort

8  Hoffenheim

7  Grazen Sky

race 8    average clarity

1  Madam Dancealot    believe her latest might have been a needed race maybe even only a tune-up for today's 9F affair which seems to suite her better than a one mile grass race.......we will find out at about 3:00 p.m. today

9  Sassy Little Lila   appears to show much better early speed when she has a long run to the 1st turn.....and 9F on the grass at SA is just that......likely loose here and with a stout turf rider in Prat to hold her together from start to finish.....very dangerous

5  Evo Campo   best at distances further than today's 9F but still seems capable of a win here as she might sit a distance 2nd or 3rd to the our top choice (and maybe the 8 horse) and likely saving ground.......if that occurs she might have 1st crack at leader(s) and attempt to hold off the late runners

7  How Unusual

3  Laseen

race 9    average clarity

8  Champagne Honey   major awakening in her 2nd lifetime endeavor running a par like number in the 23 Feb. version of this race......and since since worked a very nice reassuring 5F work at SA.......hard not to like in this field that seems soft but does have 7 1st timers

9  Donut Girl   Puype filly 1st time starter has hit the track an average of every 6 days since 5 February indicating she is feeling good.......that and I like that the only two times she worked out of the gate she showed two of her best drills ever

1  Paprika   Powell is dismal with 1st time starters (likely by design) but this filly is working to well to ignore.......and the fact that Prat lands on her supports the idea the trainer might be breaking the mold today

6  Boom Boom Bango

5  Whatyouciswhatuget

3  A Little Romance
