Santa Anita for Thursday 3 May 2018

2018 Kentucky Derby day full card selections (last year 14 races) for Churchill Downs on May 5th are now available for purchase for $36.95. The selections will be sent to your email at about 4 p.m. pacific time on Friday afternoon, May 4th. Please sign up as early as possible as logistically speaking it helps us out.

NOTE:   Friday's and Saturday's selections at Santa Anita will be posted by 5:30 a.m. pacific time because of the early start at Churchill Downs.

NOTE:  We no longer are giving a 6th selection for the Super High Five fields with 9 horses or more because of the lack of play in the new exotic bet which in my opinion should be dropped.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Magic Musketier   wide trip in last disguises a nice move forward.........in for 85K to get 3 lbs off....... and....... hot bug boy Asa Espinoza is aboard so this colt gets another 7 lbs off........Hollendorfer and company seem to mean business......cut back of a full furlong appears to be a plus

3  True Royalty   Midwest trainer is often at his best 1st time racing in a claiming affair ......that is the case today with this colt......most of this youngster's career fits just fine at today's seldom run three-year old 100K claiming level

6  Platinum Equity   another dangerous looking runner who is up for a tag for the 1st time ........lifetime best was the only time that this gelding ran in a turf route on firm turf......hot rider/trainer combo in Ceballos/Baltas

race 2    average clarity

3  Extreme Heat   away since 25 Nov 2016 but returns as a 1st time gelding and training as if the ultimate equipment change has done him a world of good.......that and he drops into MC  for the 1st time for his 3rd lifetime race.......should be in the mix from the get go

5  Git On Your Pulpit   solid move forward in his 2nd lifetime race and it seems noteworthy that the race was at 6 1/2F as that bodes well for his chances of handling 7F........not crazy about the change in trainers but Kathy Walsh has been able to put in two reassuring 5F drills since his last on 6 April

2  Big Bad Gary   strong better than par for today's given level one mile route race run following a 6 1/2F turf race.........6 1/2F grass race 25 days ago - 7F dirt race today.......hmmm

race 3    average clarity

6  Tiki Bar Logic   improving with each and every race in 2018 and I sure like the fact that this filly was able to win without the lead in her latest.......the time/effort is more than deserving of today's step up.......3 reassuring works since her last......hard not to like

1  Ransomed   like the cut back in distance of one furlong.....also like the way she is training at Slr especially for a cheap claimer......and lastly I like the fact that this mare was able to win the only time she had to deal with the one post

2  Party Hostess   mare fits if she can repeat her latest but her three works since her 6 April race are a little dull......but then again Asa Espinoza might have chosen to ride this gal over the 1 horse.......tough call as to how sharp this five-year old mare is

race 4    below average clarity

1  So Golden   faced way too tough in her latest......race two back in the 8 March version of this race turned out to be a key race.......does show some signs of being a hanger but if she is not one I like her chances

4  Road Test   tough trips in her last two races which were the 8 March & 6 April versions of this race.........bad trips in both and she might have a lot in the tank for today as she was blocked badly in the stretch......quite consistent on the sod since the blinkers were added 6 races back........but take note that she like our top selection shows a tendency to hang

3  Rooms   somewhat suspicious drop following an improved race at the open 50K claiming level......but.......trainer Papaprodromou has struggled in 2018 (1 for 55) and is likely hungry for a visit to the circle of joy.......we shall see

5  Oh Scatty Oh

2  Looking At Thelake

race 5    average clarity

1  Queen Bee to You   very good history racing turf to dirt and that is the case today.......should be in the hunt from the opening bell and with a good speed rider in Maldonado

3  Starr of Quality   obvious public workout in her last as not only was she entered against the boys but it was in open company.......that and Spawr is quite dangerous the 2nd out following a claim and that is today's scenario

6  Lostintranzlation   bad trip on the grass in last disguises the effort.......very nice bullet 4F work since......1st time racing a route of ground on the dirt but the way this filly handles the two turns of turf it might produce this gals best dirt race to date

race 6    average clarity

3  Joeray   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  David Jacobson is up to 19% win at the Santa meeting and a good portion of that has been produced the last 4 or 5 weeks.......colt is 2 for 3 at SA and (2 1 1 0) at the distance.....hard not to like facing easier today

2  Gringo Star   dangerous speed in this affair but not my favorite speed rider up in......but then again he did win gate to wire on this three-year old in his last opening up a 5L lead

4  Don't Stalk Me   bit surprised that this fellow isn't in a protected starter race with the talent he has shown......so for me it comes down to is he a "claim me please" or just placed to greatly enhance his chances of winning........we shall find out about 3 p.m. pacific

5  Royal Trump

1  Pachi the Grey

race 7    below average clarity

6  Cimpl Man   like the rider change especially for a race down the SA hill.........and recent a.m. work is improved........(5 1 2 1) on the SA hill and the"miss" appeared to be a "no go"........should be charging hard late

1  Conqueror   very consistent when placed in sprint races.......ran 2nd in his only race down the majestic SA hill grass course......trainer can do no wrong of late.....hard not to like

7  Arms Runner   not sure how ready this colt is off of the 10+ month layoff but if he is fit enough he should be a factor in the outcome of this race

9  Bombard

2  Ann Arbor Eddie

race 8    below average clarity

6  Spacerika   one horse trainer sure got a strong race out of his three-year old filly running 2nd at 36 to 1 three weeks ago.......that race at 5F fits well here if she can reproduce it at 5 1/2F........with that layoff race under her belt you would think the extra 1/2 furlong would be doable

11  Sea Glass   lifetime best was run turf to dirt two races back at a significantly higher MC level......turf in last - dirt today........dangerous if her good health has remained intact

5  Pray for Corday    SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE   away since his MSW debut way back in mid June of 2017 where she didn't show much........but she drops from MSW racing to MC30K and with one dangerous looking work regiment showing

7  Mongolian Rahy

3  A Little Romance
