Santa Anita for Thursday for 10 May 2018

Congratulations to Justify and all those involved and in particular the great Bob Baffert. The East coast might have the better grass horses but it has become very apparent that one small section of the U S of A dominates the dirt horse ranks and that is of course the Southern California circuit.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Jill Madden   trainer Chew shows some signs of snapping out of the doldrums and he appears to have a shot at his 3rd win at the meeting.........filly pressed a solid pace in latest and opened up a lead in the stretch only to tire very late..........today Pedroza appears to have the lead enhancing her chances of relaxing and going all the way

5  Briartic   one dangerous rider/trainer combo as in 3 for their last 5 with one other in the money........7 year old mare appears to have an opportunity to sit in a nice ground saving stalk position.......like her chances if that is what occurs

6  Just Bookin  beat our top two selections in her latest but a strong pace up front set things up for her greatly........connections will likely have their fingers crossed that similar will happen again today

race 2    average clarity

1  Chickatini   like our top choice in race 1 we are going with the most likely leader in this MSW affair.......that and we sure get a significant rider upgrade for this Eurton three-year old filly

2  Etching   trainer Cecil is quietly having a strong SA meeting and might be at his most dangerous the 1st time he sends a given horse long.......that is the case here and this girl's last race which was at 6 1/2 furlongs was a par like effort for the level

3  Whirling   bet to favorite in her MSW debut off of a strong work tab but only ran OK........continues to train like she has talent.......tries a route this time around and with a pedigree that is more than capable of handling one

race 3    average clarity

4  Quiet No More   on the improve with each race following the Doug O'Neill claim and seems best running at today's one mile distance when competing on conventional dirt........hot rider/trainer combo in Kyle Frey/O'Neill......... as in 4 for their last 11 over the last two months

5  Lookinforadanger   mare appears to have the most early gas in the race and if her new rider for today does a better job at slowing things down she has a chance to.......................go................all.....................the way

3  Winner's Dream   turf muscle her up tightener placed over her head by Aguirre 1st out following the $16K claim........but can she handle the rigors of racing with only 5 days rest.......if she can she might have plenty of endurance and fitness back at a level where she has shown she fits fine

race 4    above average clarity

2  True Valor   nice to see Bejarano back and he might start things off right with this colt who is racing for the lowest level of his life.......colt did well to only lose by 3L for the win in his latest as he dueled in a nasty set of fractions in a 20K affair

1  Blaze'n Prospector   solid layoff effort for this Jacobson six-year-old gelding at the bottom 6,250 level.......and I like that the trainer puts his runner up 2 claiming levels especially since he is seldom afraid to lose a given horse.......likely feels awfully good and his back to back tightly spaced 36:4 works (May 3 & 7) support the notion

3  Well Measured   Ron Ellis has made the most of his few starters since being suspended for a couple of months.......and part of that is placing his stock where they have a good opportunity to succeed.....claimed for 12.5K - in for 10K.........hmmmm

race 5    above average clarity

5  Dreamy Girl   filly appears to be a good candidate to take to the hill in her first race on it........especially so after setting a strong pace two back and then a blistering pace in her latest both in one mile grass races........T C Baze knows her well having been up for all 10 lifetime races

4  Madame Mousse   most of this mare's career competing on the hill not wearing blinkers fit fine here......blinkers on in last.......they are off today.........recent two works are improved.......very dangerous

8  All of a Sudden   not to bad of a run in her 1st ever down the SA hill.........and she likely will build off the effort 2nd out after 1/2 year layoff.......stout rider/trainer on the grass of late in D'Amato/Talamo

3  Bella Sierra

2  Moonshine Annie

race 6    average clarity

4  Misty Slew   tough year for the trainer but this filly who seemingly is in the best form off her life gets a rider upgrade for today to Prat.....that and the low-level maiden claiming ranks is getting awfully thin these days in quality

7  Solar Corona   much better racing off of short rest and gets it today........race two back in the Feb 23 version of this race is decent and run sprint to route off of 21 days rest........sprint race 20 days ago......route race today........hmmm

2  Cinnamon Toast   had to give the grass a whirl before dropping.......MSW to MC20k........dangerous despite being rather dismal in 3 lifetime races

1  Curlina Curlina

3  I Adore You

race 7    average clarity

6  Seau   very strong race 2 back at a distance he can handle.......10F in his latest appears out of his range.......that and he was dead on the board.......drops but still at a much higher level than the 12.5K he raced for 3 back.......seems set up for today

7  Beantown Boys   barn is ultra dangerous 1st out following a claim........very impressive recent works hint Vallejo has the trump card for this four-year old gelding.........(4 2 1 1) at today's distance.......dangerous up in class sort

8  The All Button   need the lead to win type might get caught wide on the first turn compromising his chances of lasting and winning.........but if he doesn't get caught 3 wide or worse he might be rated too low

3  Stormin Monarcho

4  Popular Kid

race 8    below average clarity

5  Becomes a Queen   brutal trip with about 8 lengths of trouble......that and he was far back dead last in a pace-less race......3 useful works since........Maldonado will be out to make amends........and at a handsome price

8  Clearly Gone   exits the same pace-less race as out top choice and he sure put in a strong late pace......and like our top pick he had a bad trip........that and we get one dynamite rider upgrade especially for a grass race

9  South Boot Shirley   two solid dirt races to start his career......then he stumbled at the start in his 1st turf race and pulled up......O'Neill still wants the turf........sharper recent a.m. work.......barn is hot.......dangerous

3  Pulpitinthesky

1  Radish
