Santa Anita for Friday 11 May 2018

OK race card today and Saturday's appears to be a good card.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Cajun Treasure   not much support at the windows for this Eurton three-year old colt yet he was still only beaten 1 3/4L for the win running 4th......so........he might not have been that cranked up going off 14 to 1 but might be today.......we shall see

1  Soltero   two solid main track route races in a row off of short rest........been away 10 weeks since the 2nd one and returns in his 1st turf race of his career......good pedigree for the sod......good post.......good turf rider.......all add up to a very dangerous runner if he can run as well off a 10 week break as he did off of short rest

4  Pointed   likely needed his last off a layoff and the trainer Marsha Schwizer is better 2nd out following a layoff.......race 4 back run off of 4 weeks rest fits well here and today we have a better grass rider up and once again 4 weeks rest.......should be a big price

2  Desert Stone

race 2    average clarity

3  Tijori   nice steady tightly spaced work regiment for this Callaghan 1st timer.......connections shelled out $525K for this two-year old filly in March so they got a very good look at what they were getting

8  Toothless Wonder   another that was just purchased in March ($220K).......in this case for O'Neill who seemingly out of thin air can do little wrong......trainer is deadly when he gets in hot streaks

2  Sparky Ville   Bonde 1st time starter is training like he has some early speed.........and he draws the attention of Mike Smith and his agent.......and the only time Jeff Bonde rode Smith over the last couple of months it led to a win

7  Over Emphasize

4  Factor of Two

race 3    average clarity

8  Kona Coast   fell off in his latest but his race two but is exceptionally strong for today's level and disguised by a slightly tardy start and a very wide trip......the fact that Prat takes the call suggests this four-year old gelding might be up to the race two back this afternoon........we shall see

3  Rossman   poor trip in his MSW debut which was run down the SA hill grass course........three-year old showed plenty of life and wasn't exactly "well-meant" as he went off 82 to 1........new trainer for today........better pedigree for the dirt........OK pedigree for a route........and drops from MSW to maiden claiming........dangerous sort

1  Nate's Attack   yet another with a bad trip in this case his 2nd lifetime start.......ran wide up on a hot pace in a one mile turf race.....did well to only get beat by 5 1/2 lengths......trainer is solid turf to dirt

7  Momma's Baby Boy

6  Earnednevergiven

race 4    average clarity

6  Scat Big Dad   debut was likely nothing more than a muscle him up tune-up down the Santa Anita hill grass course to be totally fit for today's turf route......that and the connections didn't shell out $450K to own a turf sprinter

1  Majestic Eagle   3 straight 2nd's and in all three races the individual that beat this colt came back to win their next.......Mike Smith gets a try on this guy for the 1st time which for me is a downgrade from Nakatani on the turf (if it was on the dirt it would be just the opposite)

3  Holy Ghost   nice move forward in this colt's latest (a MC75K turf race) and Keith Desormeaux wisely places his colt in a protected MSW affair.....that and he makes a rider upgrade to his brother Kent.....should be closing fast in the late stages

7  Canadian Game

race 5    average clarity

7  I'll Wrap It Up   sure like this gelding's latest win which is very deserving of a step up of one claiming level........that and Miyadi is 28% win and 70% in the money with his last 43 claim "repeaters"

6  Mesa Sky   Jacobson is solid with the sprint-route-sprint maneuver and like our top selection the last two sprints that this fellow ran (2 and 3 races back) are quite better than par for today's level

1  Four Gaels   hard trying fairly consistent gelding seems best at today's 5 1/2 furlong distance......doubt his last two efforts would do much here but his efforts 3 and 4 back might........low percentage bug boy but he knows and rides this guy well and in this case seems worth his 7 lbs. weight case

8  Atomic Action

2  Classico

race 6    below average clarity

2  Tidal Effect   washy in his latest yet fired a number that fits well here albeit in a route race.......that and I like the fact the connections see fit to put him in a protected race where he fits and then he can repeat the level if he wins today to break his maiden

5  Candy Crew   2 of 3 lifetime dirt races fit fairly well and he seems to be training better for today's endeavor than he has in the past.......7F is a small concern

3  Goodwilliambassador   three year old colt has the advantage of being proven at the 7F distance and our top two picks do not.........might need a small move forward today unless neither of our top two choices care for the somewhat specialized sprint distance of 7F

7  Studly Perfection

6  American All Star

race 7    below average clarity

7  Shivermetimbers   significant bullet 6F work put in just 6 days ago......seems likely to rebound to his effort two back where he ran a 6 1/2L beaten 2nd to the Derby winner........4 of his loses were against three-year old monsters in Justify, McKinzie twice and Ax Man

1  Longden   Baffert three-year old just keeps getting better.........and better........and better........and better..........and better..........and..........

3  Take the One O One   originally I had this colt as the top selection but route speed is not holding on over the last 2 or 3 weeks to the tune of (about) only 1 win in the last 18 route races run which includes 0 for 5 yesterday.......still this colt sure seems loose and dangerous

6  Peace

race 8    average clarity

1  Buddy Bear   tepid top selection actually ran an adjusted for trouble fig in his MSW debut that is about par for today's lower level......and unless you are a touring golf pro and not playing in the British Open on a windy rainy day par is usually a good thing

4  Perfect Tale   not much in his 2nd lifetime start 4 weeks ago but his debut back on 19 Feb was decent......1st on the grass and 1st at a route this afternoon with an average pedigree for both

6  War in the West   slow works for McAnally first time starter but I have to ignore them to some degree as this gelding has a strong grass pedigree on both sides of his family

3  Ashley's Big Guy

2  Call Ended
