Santa Anita for Friday 15 June 2018

Beware of the racing surface as in was fair on Saturday and outside on Sunday and then inside yesterday. What the heck. I can't imagine the trouble the ground crew would have if they had to deal with rain a lot like most of the Country.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

5  Irish Spring   only raced once for Almeida way back in October of off dull works.....went off at 50 to 1 and ran to his works and his odds.......shows up in the Baltas barn 8 months later with solid drills.....outworking anyone in this bunch at least on paper........decent grass pedigree for this 2nd time starter.........Baltas is extremely dangerous with horses he takes over

2  Data Central   on the improve with every start and one dangerous trainer in Keith Desormeaux 2nd out after a layoff......brother Kent wisely sticks with the three-year old colt

3  Mongolian Groom   exits a very fast heat of MC30K runners on the dirt and likely exited the race in great shape to be moved all the up to a MSW race........1st on the sod but his pedigree looks good to handle the surface change........trainer is rather decent the 1st time he puts a given runner on the grass

1  Frankincense

8  Starting Block

race 2    above average clarity

4  Jill Madden   just claimed by Mulhall who is 23% win 1st out following a claim........like that she retains Pedroza as he is (5 1 1 3) in route races on this filly.......and for the 3rd straight race this filly appears to the the controlling speed ......and........she ran 2nd then 1st in her last two races

2  Backintheacademy   obvious gimme in her last placed way over head noggin......back in 8 days and drops from 20K to 8K in a full blown go today for Peter Miller and company

1  Ipray   mixed results when she races fresh off of the bench like today.......but if she is up to her "A game" off of the 3 1/2 month layoff she fits just fine in this field

race 3    average clarity

7  No More Talk   Baze has a good opportunity to work out a good trip as this Puype four year old gelding has some tactical speed and can sit in a good ground saving stalk position behind a couple of suspect horses ahead of him.......then he has to hold off the Calvary charge to come home a winner

4  Fortune of War   drop into 50Knw2 makes sense as this gelding gelding is consistent but needs some class relief.....he gets that today and retains G Franco who does well teaming up with trainer E Kruljac

2  Over Par   might by a sprint turf tune-up as this gelding has missed the board 3 times in 3 races down the hill......but.......O'Neill horses for the most part have been running top efforts and quite often when they really don't look too good on paper

5  Bear Chum

race 4    average clarity

4  Kershaw   like the strong 6F drill followed up by a speedy 3F work 5 days later to finish up his preparatory works for today's 1st out since November......MSW/layoff/good works/drop to MC.....right in Peter Miller's wheelhouse

2  Captivate   another fresh off of the bench 1st time racing in MC and for another trainer who is more dangerous than most with the move in Mike Puype.......seems likely to be a player

5  Fast Cotton   yet another dropping following a long break and dropping.......and Koriner (who also is not too shabby with the move) goes to one of his go to guys in Joe Talamo

3  Littlebitamedal

race 5    average clarity

4  Beantown Boys   both lifetime grass races aren't as poor as they appear in print .........and did Vallejo ever get this four year old gelding to improve 1st out following a claim running way better than par for today's level albeit in a dirt race.......that and a couple of his siblings won on the sod......should be on or near the lead from the get go........hot rider/trainer combo to boot

7  Bourbon Soul   seemingly best of the off pace runners signed up and back to his regular jock in T C Baze after being absent for a couple of races....that and he might get a lively pace in this race.......rate it a 50/50 chance

1  Lucky Byron   Espinoza finally seems to be getting his act together on the grass as he sure was in a prolonged funk on it.....that and he has a good history riding this Sadler five year old.......drops once again (3rd drop in a row) which isn't very positive.....but Salder sure could use a win (late breaking news - he did get one yesterday)

5  Bold Papa

race 6    average clarity

4  Oliver   very solid work tab both for this 1ster at SA and out of town.......speed and the inside were good yesterday and this colt sure appears to own some.......small potatoes trainer but he has one 2nd in one start at the meeting

6  Luck's Royal Flush   nice move forward in his 2nd lifetime endeavor........continues to train like a happy healthy sort.......retains Stevens.......hard not to like

7  An American Jet  another 1st timer working well enough to be ready at 1st asking.......Sherlock is only 2 for his last 25 with MSW 1st timers but might help that 8% win percentage here

9  Mad Mike

8  Concord Jet

race 7    average clarity

5  Heartfullofstars  nice effort down the hill in his last and returns to the races today as a 1st time gelding.......and just what you want to see as in an improved recent work put in just 6 days ago.........rather sure this D'Amato three year old is up for a top effort this afternoon

1  Unpossible   two 2nd's in 2 turf route Stakes races at GG at the distance of one mile........that should give him plenty of staying power in the 6 1/2 furlongs offered here......and a glaring trainer stat to boot.......Mr Koriner has won 8 of his last 17 shippers

6  Calexman   like the rider change especially for a turf horse whose game is speed.........came close to winning the 17 May version of this 1st in his latest........dangerous front running sort

race 8    average clarity

10  Pray for Corday   trains like she has talent but yet to show it in the afternoon......many "morning glory" types need the lead (maybe they don't like dirt in their face) to strut their stuff.......so I sure like that Pedroza gets the call as he likely will be all out to get it.......only horse in the field to go a sub 22 flat 1/4.....should be a price

6  Princess Areni    drops back to where she started as in a MC30K........3 2nd's in 3 lifetime races......might get her win today for Baltas and company

2  Sea Glass   already has some early speed and she gets the blinkers on for today........dangerous for sure especially if we get yesterdays inside speed track

9  Gray Diva

1  Brandon's Law
