Santa Anita for Saturday 16 June 2018

11 races today and 10 on Fathers Day at Santa Anita. Both cards seem OK.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Sir Eddie   earned an adjusted Santucci fig in both of his races down the hill that are 1 1/2 lengths better than par and disguised by an average of 5L of adjustment.......that and O'Neill can do no wrong the last 3 weeks or so.....and Prat wisely sticks around

4  Writ Large   ran a par like effort on the hill when you adjust for a wide trip in his MSW debut........that and he had a good stretch and a great gallop out.......he went off at 75 to might have some upside in start number 2

5  Lucky Mesquite   like the works and like the pedigree for Blake Heap 1st timer.......Blake has won 1 of his last 3 that debut on the turf......seems dangerous

8  Hollywood Square

7  Thermopolis

race 2    average clarity

4  Keyson   Tup is a faster surface for sure these days than that at SA but I don't see anyone who has raced in this field who would run the times that this Scott Rollins colt did......that and the youngster should be prominent from the get go

5  Bea's Boy   ran a decent 2nd in his debut which was also in a MC50K but it was vs. open company.......Cal-breds today........went off at  20 to 1 in a 6 horse field which suggests he might have surprised the barn some and maybe he wasn't all that cranked......very dangerous

2  Lucky General   trainer has had a tough 2018 but might jump starts things here with this colt making his maiden debut.......Sise used to be dangerous with MC 1st timers but not of late......hope that changes here

3  Irish Terrier

race 3    average clarity

5  Arawak   2 of his 3 grass races in the good old U S of A fit solidly at today's level and both are hidden with fairly tough trips......O'Neill retains Gary Stevens and the Hall of Fame jock is starting to heat things up

4  River Born   (5 3 1 0 0 1) in route turf races and that 5th place finish was in a Grade 2.......1 for 1 at 9F and it was his career best and would be fit very well here if he can duplicate it

3  Blame the Rider   9 furlongs might be a bit further than this colt wants to run but the trainer is hot and the three-year old sure appears to be loose on the lead

race 4    average clarity

4  Anonymity   both lifetime races run in August and October of 2017 are very are stellar for her layoff run......Mandella has had a bad year by his lofty standards but might jump-start things here........he is overdue to awaken.......that is for sure

1  Conquest Flatterme   six-year-old mare has made quite a rebound and if she can repeat her last she has just as good a shot at the winners circle as our top pick.......but I am a touch leery that her last was too big an effort and that she might regress off the "big" move forward.......but then again Cerin has had his best year training in quite some time

2  Powder   dangerous speed especially if our top choice doesn't fire the race that I believe she will......that and Franco jumped off daddy Kruljac's horse after easy wins to ride his son Ian's horse

race 5    average clarity

5  Helen's Tiger   sure hope Doug O'Neill keeps the hot hand going as we have Doug as our top selection in 3 of the 1st 5 races.......three year filly ran a decent layoff race in her 1st on the hill two back........2nd out after the layoff also down the hill is much more than decent........repeat of the effort in today's nw down the hill has a good chance of success......another improvement would be icing in the already sweet cake

3  Wishful   lifetime best albeit on an off main track was the lone time today's rider Desormeaux rode.......but she handles the hill just fine and in her two races on it she had much less accomplished jocks than Kent D.......such a deal

2  Operandi   filly loses regular rider Gutierrez but she does fit well in this spot.......and as mentioned above Mr O'Neill has the hot hand........Tyler Conner will be out to impress

7  Topaz Time

race 6    below average clarity

1  Thirteen Squad   Baffert's three-year old filly is best in routes and her a.m. preparation has never been more impressive.......believe she's ready for her lifetime best.......and Mr. Baffert is 31% win for the year and 62% in the money.......yikes-o-rama

6  Ollie's Candy   won her two lifetime races both at GG in style winning by 6 1/2L and then by 7 3/4L......that is impressive and deserving of a shot in this Grade 2........1st on conventional dirt and 1st at a route are obvious ? marks.......bred well for both......good rider and trainer combo earlier in the year

2  Fool's Paradise   lifetime best in her last and she might be (and needs to be) up for even more today with a nice recent 6F preparatory drill.......another 1/16 to travel with her pedigree says it should be a plus

race 7    average clarity

7  Gentrified   very dangerous trainer in Cerin when he steps up a claiming a level especially when they did not win their last..........recent best of 59 4F work supports the idea this gelding is likely doing quite well

5  Stringent   solid improvement in his latest and since then he put in the best drill he has worked in a long time (best of 56 5F work at SA) that this speed type was able to win eye to eye in solid pace in his latest as he might have to go "eye to eye" again

2  Madelyn's Wild Max   very consistent off pace runner is at his best racing at 5 1/2 or rider/trainer combo in Pena/Vallejo .........and Pena knows and has had plenty of success with this gelding

4  Bargaining

3  Nardo

race 8    average clarity

4  Red Livy   why not drop 2 levels because this is likely the last shot to run down the hill for a long time....her record on the hill is (7 3 1 2)........and........what a good spot for a speed horse

7  Holy Mosey   Molly Pearson is quietly having a good SA meeting and drops this filly two levels to take advantage of another hill race where she ran awfully well in her 1st on it in her latest

5  Detail   Tup invader runs her 1st ever on the hill but takes quite a drop.....trainer has had an excellent year and is often dangerous with shippers

6  Ryder's Starlight

8  Madame Mousse

race 9    average clarity

6  Old Indian Trick   both lifetime races are better than par and hiden......1st race he was four wide on an even surface......2nd start he broke a little tardy and the rushed on a slightly dull inside and it was in a fast heat of MSW runners.....did well to run 3rd beaten 10L........should be tough dropping to MC50K if he has held form

10  Git On Your Pulpit   blinkers off after tossing a clunker with them on.......previous two races with them off are solid par for the MC50K level efforts.......trainer sure seems overdue for a win

3  Front Row Friends   not bet and not much in his MSW debut way back in April of since and training as if he might be a different improved individual.......and drops into this MC50K

11  Perfect Wager

2  Loco Mango

race 10    average clarity

8  Helen Hillary   appears very sharp right now with two consecutive better than par efforts which were run at today's one mile turf distance.....and some very strong a.m. work since.....high % trainer with his grass horses in D'Amatao

2  Lightning Dove   very consistent filly when she gets ample time between starts and she gets it here.....that and her only two races on firm turf at today's one mile distance fit well in this field

1  Spy Ring   last was the tune-up and it sure appears to have done as intended as this girl's a.m. work since is strong.......rather sure she is ready to strut her stuff for Cassidy and Stevens today

9  Libby's Tail

3  My Aunt Tillie

race 11    average clarity

9  Blame Joe   should be ready at a high level because Miller and friends are likely to lose this gelding who drops precipitously off of the 13 month a.m. preparation supports the notion......and........Peter Miller is seldom afraid to lose a horse and likely will here

2  Gutsy Effort  significant drop down off of a long layoff is a very dangerous proposition for the opposition when the trainer happens to be Mike Puype

1  Masterpiece Day   blinkers on.........MSW to MC20K.......and turf to dirt for today's 2nd lifetime start with Desormeaux sticking around........dangerous sort from the Hess barn

11  For the Hustle

4  Coastal Eddy
