Santa Anita for Friday 22 June 2018

All I want for my birthday is to break out of the slump that I have been in the last couple of weeks.

Last week of Santa Anita and then on to the Los Alamitos thoroughbreds. We will cover 9 of the 12 days. Please check the calendar to see the 3 days that we will not be able to cover.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Flip the Coin Jan   owns some strong dirt figs now and then and switches to the grass for the 1st time today......mom has tossed 6 turf winners from 10 starters.......might be a "turf move up"........lookout if he is

6  Lauren's Ladd   by far the most experience on the hill with more starts on it than the entire field combined.......last race is better than par........but can he run similar back in only one weeks rest

2  Glorious Crown   both races down the hill aren't bad but he might need his very best or dull efforts from the top two to take down this race

1  Upo

race 2    below average clarity

5  Baby Bear's Soup   last two wins came the last two times Jacobson put this gelding in a claiming race.....both races run out East are very strong and one was off of a long layoff like today.......sure like a 4F work put in just 3 days ago

4  Red Carpet Cat  very sharp in both starts following the claim by Wong in two allowance races at GG on the synthetic.......and he has run well at SA in the past......trainer has done at good job with limited starts at SA in 2018 (6 2 2 0)

3  Boy Howdy   very big race 1st out after the claim (and hidden in its strength) and plenty of time off to recovery from what was likely a stressful effort physically

race 3    average clarity

4  General Mach Four   hot rider and trainer combo and spotted well to win.......likely because he appreciates the SA hill and it will be some time before he can race on it again

3  Twirling Tiger   plenty of early gas in this field might set things up for this Carava five-year old who can get a nice mid pack position......only lifetime grass race (a route) fits fine.....1st on the hill is a ? mark

6  Awesome Heights   another late runner who might benefit from a pace scenario that has a decent shot at aiding the late runners.......and he gets the leading rider up today in Prat

8  Croissant

5  Rate for Me

race 4    average clarity

4  Hartel   love those two straight solid gate works to finish up this colt's work regiment......rather sure this Milller 1st timer is all set to rock n roll at a high level

5  Parsimony   impressive 2nd place finish for this O'Neill colt in his MSW debut considering he rather wide on the turn.......hard not to like his chances in start number two

8  Carotari   it appears that trainer Luis Mendez has come ready with his youngsters (2 0 1 1) and this colt is training as if he has another good one

6  Jete

2  Pirate's Punch

race 5    average clarity

2  Bountiful Desert   GG invader seems to run on any surface including conventional dirt.......six year old has a nice stalking style.....trainer has had a good 2018 and that includes with shippers

7  Popular Kid   trainer has been quite cold but if he has been able to get his newbie to just hold form he might pick-up a much-needed win here

1  New Karma   big step up today off of the 8K claim by trainer Vallejo made at GG.......but his new shooter appears better on "real" dirt and he is training as if the up and coming conditioner might pull a rabbit out of his hat once again

4  Plain Wrap

race 6    average clarity

5  Spiel   tied for the best adjusted Santucci turf route fig with our 2nd choice and the strength of the effort is hidden .......and she gets a significant rider upgrade for today especially for a grass race.......good preparatory works series including a sharp 3F work just 3 days ago.........should be tough

7  Jazaalah   filly has improved with every start since arriving from GB......seems solid here but she is showing some indications that she might be a hanger of sorts

2  Radish   consistent sort on the turf or the dirt but she has 7 2nd's and 4 3rd's in 18 starts which definitely qualifies her as a hanger.......but even though she has yet to break her maiden she has earned a nifty $161K........not to shabby

8  Chiffon

1  Tequila Sunrise

race 7    average clarity

2  Mistressofthenight   solid work series since she was given some needed time off and draws the services of Prat......seems best at SA and might welcome coming home following two disappointing efforts in Kentucky

1  Vale Dori   last two races are very dull......she might not be doing too well.......or........she is just fine and Baffert is just giving her a confidence builder.......we shall find out about 3:30 pacific time

3  Bernina Star   lifetime best was run three races back turf to dirt.....that is a the case today for this James Cassidy four-year old filly

6  Yuvetsi

race 8    average clarity

2  Painting Corners   (4 2 0 2) on the SA hill and just worked a fast 5F bullet drill at Slr......trainer P Miller is solid both 2nd out after layoffs and in turf sprint races

3  A Little Bit Me   another who appreciates running down the Santa Anita hill turf course........and she did beat our top choice in her latest.......trainer is hot and likely will pull out all stops for today as it will be some time before this filly gets to run down the hill again

4  G Q Covergirl   very solid history sprinting on the turf or the dirt (7 4 1 1).....and she has put in some very fast drills preparing for today's endeavor

6  Fizzy Friday

7  Miss Sugars
