Del Mar for Sunday 5 August 2018

Decent card today. Be back with you on Wednesday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Aurora d'Oro   last looked like it might have been a "no go" to get away with today's drop without getting claimed.......race two back fits solidly

6  Midnight Soot   Carava won yesterday for his 2nd win in two days and he needed those wins........he has been showing signs of snapping out of the doldrums so maybe he can get another win with this three-year-old who has run well sprint to route which is the case today

7  Upper Room    couldn't win an allowance race at easier tracks on the east coast and with a higher % trainer yet the connections haven't dropped their colt out of an alw race on the west coast until today........better late than ever

4  Aquila

race 2    above average clarity

7  Der Lu   went for $900K in March and has worked brilliantly for her debut for the world's best dirt trainer in Mr Bob Baffert........easy to put on top

8  Vegas Strong Baby   showed life following a slow start in her MSW debut at CD.......works since arriving in S Cal are solid with her last 4 drills spaced only 6 days apart.....all wound up and ready to make a forward move in start number two

4  Bizwhacks   toss out last as he stumbled losing about 3L........debut was decent especially his early speed......might get a "jump" on the field and try to steal the race

6   Giza Goddess

3  Keeper ofthe Stars

race 3    above average clarity

2  River Boyne   (5 4 1 0) on firm or good turf in the USA......colt has late pace numbers that are strong and he also has been extremely impressive visually in the late stages of his races......easy to place as top choice

1  More Over   improving sort and he has a good history of moving forward off of short rest.......only 18 days since he ran last.....good rider/trainer combo.....will need best ever and he might be up to it

5  Calexman   best speed in the race and changes riders to Maldonado who is at his best with speed.....that and he is one for one on this Cerin youngster

race 4    average clarity

6  Z Z Tiger   drop from MSW racing to MC makes sense as she hasn't been able to sustain her speed the MSW level.......sharp 3 works in preparation for today as the connections likely realize she has a good shot at being claimed.........should be loose and very dangerous

7  Dislitleaglecanfly   likely needs a little more than she has shown in two lifetime races but she just worked the best "listed" work of her life ..........hinting.........trainer Peter Eurton has tweaked something for the better

2  Sunrise Royale   trainer has quietly had a good 2018 and might add to his win total here with this 3rd time starter who might sit in a nice stalk position behind our top choice and get 1st crack at her

4  Champagne Honey

race 5    average clarity

6  Eskimo Roses   trainer Mick Ruiz appears to have awoken from the doldrums and has this three-year old gelding training as if he is very ready to perform at a high level off of a four-month break in the action.......first ever at 5F on the grass but his running lines sure suggest the cut back in distance will be a plus

3  Sir Eddie   another who likely will appreciate the abbreviated turf sprint distance of 5F........3 2nd's in 3 efforts down the SA hill........cut back of 1 1/2 furlongs might help keep him from flattening out late.......and........ get his 1st visit to the circle of joy

7  Young Hendrick   showed some life in his MSW which was down the SA hill following a bit of a tangled up start.....works since the race hint the effort muscled him up some.......if it has he should be a factor in the outcome of this race

1  Rumpus Cat

2  Magnum Maduro

race 6    average clarity

5  Tyfosha   both lifetime races at Del Mar are very solid......good history for this filly fresh off of the bench.......so........Del Mar dirt + fresh off a 4 month layoff = the likelihood of one been race today

7  Hot Autumn   (4 1 2 1) with the blinkers off.......won for fun at 7F so 6 1/2 furlongs will likely suite her well.......trainer does well with limited starters which includes 2 wins in 4 starts so far at the Del mar meeting

1  Dis Smart Cat   solid move forward in latest 1st following the Sadler claim.....and the strength of the race is disguised by dueling in decent pace on a somewhat dull rail........works since the 16 June race hint she has remained sharp.....not out of the win picture by any means

8  Conquest Flatterme

6  Spring Lilly

race 7    above average clarity

5  Mischievous Song   filly has really improved since the Miller claim 4 races back.......her dirt numbers of late are much better than par for today's level.....she did ease in her only grass race but she walked off.......She is bred well for the turf........a ton today if she handles it

1  Bornonvalentineday   very solid drills (and with the blinkers taken off for the 1st time today) at GG for this N Cal invader.......trainer Tim McCanna has been firing on all cylinders at the meeting for the most part.....dangerous sort

3  Drift Away   (4 2 0 1) for Andrew Lerner so far at the meeting........and he might have another live runner here who he picked up from the Midwest.........and his new shooter should fit today's racing level well

6  Bunny Yogurt

4  Tiny Tina

race 8    average clarity

3  Bellafina   solid MSW debut at Lrc for this well-bred filly for the Callaghan barn.....and the works since hint at a move forward.......if that is the case she will be tough despite still being a maiden

10  Del Mar May   another with an impressive MSW debut who despite not winning her debut still fits well in this Grade 2 .....and her trainer Richard Baltas is better with 2nd time starters than 1st time starters

9  Boujie Girl   won her debut in a MC80K and did it easily and in a time that like our top two picks fits the Grade 2 level offered here......and her trainer Peter Miller has been on fire to start the Dmr meeting

7  Stirred

8  Reflect

race 9    (way below) average clarity

9  Skagit River   significant change in apprentice riders from one that is struggling to one that is very impressive.........deep closer should fly late if his good race bad race good race pattern remains intact today........many in here will not like 7F......he likely will

8  Grand Minister   last was likely needed......and.....I like the two drills since his 15 July debut........they are two 5F drills spaced only 5 days apart.....likely wound up and ready to roll for his 2nd lifetime start

11 Twisted Road   last two races fit very well but I have some doubts that he is up to another.....should have been top choice if that is not the case

6  If I Had a Nickle

1  Catch Fire

2  Supreme Giant
