Santa Anita for Saturday 6 October 2018

Counting today we still have over 30 races this extended holiday weekend. I best get busy.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

1  Any Questions   good post and a jock upgrade.........4 for 8 at the distance.......just ran 4th at GG vs better........plenty of speed signed up to aid his late running style.......should be a price

3  Kenicum   seems the most likely in the field to "get the trip".........Gary Hall of Fame Stevens should get a nice ground saving stalking trip at least thru turn one setting him up nicely for the rest of the race

7  Sawyer's Hill   claim back by Mulhall is at his best fresh off of the are up to snuff.......4 for 10 at the distance........good history with Pedroza up.......a superfecta of reasons to consider this seven year old

5  Marckie's Water

2  Cashman

race 2    average clarity

8  Big Base   very solid run at GG last year in her 2nd lifetime 2nd out after a layoff likely will move this youngster forward today if she runs as well on the conventional dirt as she does on the AW

1  Just Kathy   dangerous MSW to MC20K 3rd time stater from the Baltas barn......away since 11 March but she is working as if she is meant & ready

7  Peachy   sure like the cut back in distance as it should give her an endurance advantage when push comes to shove late.......and take note that Papaprodromou won yesterday's 8th (as our $15.00 top choice) making him (3 2 1 0) to start the meeting

6  Veiled Heat

2  Eurasia

race 3    average clarity

2  Emtech   Simon Callaghan has this MC 1st time starter working as if he is ready at 1st asking.......Simon is 2 for his last 5 with MC 1ster's and with 2 others hitting the board

1  Perfect Dude   flashed speed and tired late in her MC80K debut......strong endurance building works since......should be on or near the lead and won't give it up late so easily this time around

5  Easy Shot   both lifetime starts are par like efforts for today's lower level of maiden racing......and unless you are a pro golfer par is a good thing

race 4    above average clarity

5  Hartel   Peter Miller is very tough in turf sprints and this two year old gelding has already shown he has talent on the sod........retains Pratt and the Miller/Prat combo is as tough as it gets in S Cal

3  Mae Never No   filly faces the boys today off of 3 strong lifetime races on main track surfaces out east........OK pedigree for the turf and Wesley Ward's forte is with turf sprinters.....very dangerous

2  Whooping Jay   bet hard and did not disappoint in her MSW debut crushing her foes by a widening 5 1/4 lengths.......and his pedigree to handle the sod is awfully good........not out of the win picture by any means

1  Its Gonna Hurt

race 5    above average clarity

4  Edwards Going Left   very talented four-year old appears to be at his best at SA and at today's 6F distance.......and he seemingly has never trained any better......back to Baze who has the last 4 wins for this fellow.....hard not to like

2  Roy H   after 4 straight world-class races Roy's prowess slipped some in his latest.......but his endurance building works since the 28 July race hint he might be back at peak form.......if he is he will be one tough cookie

5  Ransom the Moon   big Grade 1 win in last and his a.m. work since hints he has remained very sharp......mostly placed as our 3rd selection because the race shape might not set up too well for him.....still.....very dangerous

race 6    below average clarity

9  Go On Mary   seemingly needs contact to the front end of things and likely can get it here......toss her latest as she broke tardy and ran wide.....did well to only be 2 3/4L behind the winner at the wire

7  Painting Corners   Peter Miller is very tough in turf sprints and I believe he is riding Van Dyke to take this filly back a little so that she doesn't flatten out late......we shall see

6  Fizzy Friday   seems best on the Santa Anita grass and she won her lone race on the SA hill.......trainer is showing signs of snapping out of a mini-slump......Fizzy will need some pace to flatter her late kick.....lookout if she gets it

8  Rubilinda

5  Miss Southern Miss

race 7    average clarity

7  Monterey Shale   2 for 2 at the somewhat specialized distance of 7F.............last to wins came when Glatt dropped this gelding........and he drops him today.......hmmm

4  Eighty Three   trainer Reed Saldana is having a solid 2018 and he is not afraid to drop a given runner to get a win.......very dangerous

9  Braddock   another dropping and maybe the impetus for the drop is the fact that this colt is 1 for 1 at 7F and arguably ran the best race of his life.........very dangerous sort for the "Dorfer" barn

3  Papa Turf

6  El Tovar

race 8    average clarity

10  Microrithms   Baffert gelding has been away for 15 months but returns with a nice set of works and as a 1st time gelding.......but maybe most importantly he appears to have the best early speed in the race......and fresh speed is quite often very dangerous speed

2  Solid Wager   by far at his best on the SA dirt.....that and Hollendofer and Paco Lopez do awfully well as a team.......would have been top pick-a-rue if there was more speed signed up

9  Super Duper Cooper   believe this Michael McCarthy four year old has spent too much time running in route races when he is better in sprints........that and his a.m. prowess is solid and for a trainer who is (11 4 4 0) to start the new meeting

3  Madarnas

4  Best Two Minutes

race 9    above average clarity

8  Sharp Samurai   4 for 5 at Santa Anita on the grass.......1 for 5 on other grass surfaces........razor sharp in the a.m.........retains Stevens who sure rides this fellow awfully well.......all that and this gelding faces a fairly soft group of foes

9  Fly to Mars   might get a great trip stalking behind our 4th choice who should who should get loose on a lead......and when this fellow sits 2nd or 3rd stalking the lead he has been very tough

2  White Flag   decent east coast invader from the Clement barn should fit fine if he takes to two turn grass racing......his pedigree sure says that he should

6  Pyscho Sister

5  Ohio

race 10    below average clarity

4  Aquila   placed over his head in latest without much threat of being claimed to be in a route turf race so as to muscle him up for today's dirt race........that and he drops to the lowest level of his career

9  Psychedelicat   nice tune-up in last (and not eligible to be claimed) off of the long layoff........should be fit and ready for today's 12.5nw2 level where he fits just fine.......and trainer is hot to boot

3  Katzumoto   dangerous speed and with the right jock up in Pedroza to grab the lead....that and he has won from off of the has options

2  Street Zombie

7  Michael Mundo

6  Pacific Song

race 11    above average clarity

2  Colonial Creed  very powerful races in both lifetime starts earning turf route adjusted for pace and position numbers many lengths better than par for the MSW level........a ton in one half if she holds form and handles the hill

8  Be a Shero   very wide trip in a turf Stakes race hides an effort that should fit at the MSW level.....reliable trainer/rider combo in Mullis/Baze

9  Barbadolla   likely moves forward today off of better a.m. work........and if that is the case he fits at the MSW level well

5  Hello Bubbles

1  Hyde Park Corner

3  Encanta
