Santa Anita for Monday 8 October 2018

Good race card to finish the 6th straight day of racing. Racing resumes on Friday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Gliding By   laid up mare is up for a tag and with very strong works put in hinting that the connections realize they may lose her so they have her very fit and ready to win......rider/trainer won yesterday and by winning margin of 11 lengths

1  Indian Mantuana   scratched out of yesterday's small Stakes for this softer spot......trainer is 2 for his last 7 1st after a claim with 5 others hitting the board......hard not seeing her a factor here

4  One Fast Board   last is OK but she likely is up for better as her last two grass races at SA (and also at today's one mile distance) are solid here......not out of the win picture by any means.....mostly placed as 3rd choice because the race shape plays against her

race 2    average clarity

4  Coliseum   SCRATCHED OUT OF RACE   Baffert MSW 1st timer is training stoutly and the two solid 6F gate works should enhance her chances of coping with the 6 1/2 furlongs offered here

1  Harmon   ignoring her MSW debut as Gallagher is seldom ready with them whereas he can get the job done in their 2nd lifetime start.......that and Smith stays up and Smith has been on only "live" mounts at the SA meeting (11 5 3 0)

2  Loomis   like the tightly spaced drills for this R Mandella 1ster and the fact this colt worked out of the gate just 4 days ago......that and mom has tossed two Stakes winners from 7 starters

race 3    average clarity

5  Salah   trainer is very dangerous with 2nd time starters (30% win with last 90) and not too shabby "1st at a route" either (18% last 66) since his useful sprint debut at Dmr are improved and were put in at SA........should be in the hunt from the get go

6  Lead Star   in need of a drop and gets it......would have been top choice if I wasn't concerned about his ability of handling only 10 days rest racing route to route

4  Take Charge Lucky   bug boy has won 3 races the last two days and all were on the front end.....and he seems like the most likely to grab the lead here

race 4    average clarity

3  Allabouaction   (4 3 1 0) on the SA dirt......voided claim in last so Miller takes advantage of the situation to drop his gelding one claiming notch with plenty of apprehension put into the minds of the claiming vultures

5  Junior Gilliam   another who likes the SA surface and coming off of a race where he was a voided claim.....Hollendorfer gives him plenty of time off to recover and if his works are worth a hoot he sure has recovered in a big way

6  Mo Soul   easy to toss his layoff run in his last his 3rd lifetime start as he dueled in decent pace on a dull rail which basically does anyone in......considering he won his other two lifetime starts rather easily he seems worthy of getting another shot at hitting pay-dirt

race 5    above average clarity

4  Summering   two-year old filly owns the best final time fig in the race and also the best pace figs in the race.....and she just won a 100K Stakes at one mile on the grass which is also today's Stakes purse......dynamite rider/trainer combo to boot

2  Lady Prancealot   nice history in GB sprinting prior to his 1st in the USA 5 weeks ago for Baltas in a one mile turf the race she sat dead last in a race with a pedestrian pace and still came flying late for 2nd........she should feel good with that race under her belt but she might be "pace compromised" once again.....we shall see

1  My Sweet Baboo   SCRATCHED OUT OF RACE  decent one mile turf MSW debut.......retains Prat and gets a much better post (9 post to 1 post)......all signs point to a forward much of one is the ? mark

3  Ladymidtown

race 6    average clarity

6  Temple Knights   1st time Bill Morey with a shipper is a dangerous proposition for the suggest he will handle his 1st on the dirt and possibly with some early foot......stout rider/trainer combo last summer

7  Kopitar   keeps hitting the goal post with three 2nd's in three lifetime dirt races flattening out very late in all of the cut back from 6F in his last two racing endeavors to 5 1/2F today seems like a plus

3  Iron Curtain   seems best at SA and his last two races elsewhere are not too might be poised for his best to date getting back to his favorite surface

8  Conversate

5  Optimum

race 7    average clarity

4  Gypsy Blu   strong MC debut to graduate and then tossed a clunker in her 2nd lifetime tab since that disappointing race is strong and capped off with a sizzling 45:4 H work just 4 days ago.......yikes

5  Sauce On Side   very consistent since Miller put the blinkers on this three-year old filly........away since 22 August but the crafty trainer has her all wound up and ready to unwind off of some tightly spaced drills

1  Tiz Coffee   dangerous speed here and with a bug boy in Espinoza who has been sending on the speed friendly SA surface this Fall......danger city

2  Lemon Crush

race 8    average clarity

5  King of Speed  very smooth running route turf colt and all his races were with Stevens up......and whereas he has had to cope with outside posts he gets to start from the 5 post today........two year old has a shot to make it two straight 100K Stakes wins

3  Much Better   fairly lucky to graduate in his MSW debut as the winning time was not so hot.......but he continues to train like he has talent and he is bred just fine to handle a turf route.......and he retains Van Dyke who has won 6 of his last 13 mounts for Baffert

6  Tekeo Squared   seems to find trouble yet he has still managed to earn $48K in two lifetime turf races both at today's one mile distance.......lookout if he settles down a little today

4  Spin Lightning

7  Honcho

race 9    above average clarity

7  Air Strike   very strong race (and a very key one) for Asmussen 2 races back at Elp.....then in his 1st in S Cal for D'Amato he graduated in style with a 6 1/4 length win despite running wide up on the pace.....should be a ton and one half if he runs as well on the SA dirt as he did on the Dmr dirt

5  Master Singer   likely will be muscled up and with endurance coming off a 1 3/8th turf race......1st on conventional dirt but his pedigree says he should handle it

3  Lord Guinness   colt will need his best to date (most likely) and if he gives it the race sure appears to set up for his off pace running style

6  Longden

1  Paddock Pick

race 10    average clarity

3  Sensible Thoughts   very significant rider upgrade especially for a grass race......and as mentioned in race 1 the rider/trainer won yesterday and by winning margin of 11 lengths......lifetime best for this filly seems highly likely this afternoon

9  Chalky   nasty post or would have been top choice........but then again this filly has seemingly never trained better.......and she drops one MC level

1  Solarium   19 to 1 in a 7 horse field hints her MC dirt debut was a tune-up and not a bad one at that as she showed plenty of life following a brutal start........bred well for the grass but only so so for a route

4  Weather Market
