Santa Anita for Friday 19 October 2018

Don't miss out on the 25% savings by purchasing both days of the Breeders Cup at Churchill Downs on November 2nd and 3rd. (Breeders Cup races only. 5 two-year old races on Friday and 9 three and up races on Saturday) The deal will only last thru Sunday.

Take note that (check our racing calendar) there will not be a publication available this Sunday the 21st of October.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Queen of the Track   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  sure appears loose on the lead here and with the red-hot Gary Stevens up......and a good portion of his success of late has been with Jeff Bonde......1st on the sod but her pedigree for it is decent

6  Discreet Diva   both lifetime turf sprint races fit at today's lower level and her latest is hidden some but getting fanned out badly crossing the dirt.......first running in a route but she owns a pedigree that says she should handle one

2  Archana   needs a drop into MC and gets one......also she gets a significant rider upgrade for a grass race.......still she will need a forward move......maybe racing at a route (good stat for the D'A) will provide one

race 2    average clarity

3  Popular Kid   (4 3 1 0) in dirt route races since the blinkers were put on last May........claimed in latest and working well........repeat of either of his last two dirt route races would highly likely make for a another visit to the circle of joy

5  Mercer Island   last wasn't too bad but what we want is his effort two back which was at today's level but run down south at Del Mar.......recent solid 4F work at SA hints we might see it

4  Crown the Kitten   seemingly spent too much time racing on the sod........(7 1 3 1) racing on main track surfaces with a couple of figs earned that fit fine here........1st ever on the SA dirt is a small ? mark

race 3    average clarity

2  R B Eye   decent one mile dirt race in his 2nd lifetime start which was over at LRC........1st time racing as a since (especially his 30 Sept. drill) hint he benefited from the race and/or going under the knife and that more can be expected this afternoon

7  Swamp Souffle   some rather weak route pedigree in the field but not here.......1st time gelding.........blinkers off today for his 2nd lifetime start........jock upgrade and to one of Papaprodromou's go to riders in G Franco......drops multiple MC levels following what appeared to be nothing more than a sprint tune-up.......we shall see

3  Red Clem   another who seemingly sharpened up off of a decent 1st at a route (actually beat our top choice) in his latest.......and it sure is a good sign that he worked back to back 5F works since as opposed to him working back to back 4F works prior to his latest

9  Lifesbeengoodsofar

6  Stay in Yo Lane

race 4    average clarity

6  Stonegate   finally gets to race on the grass again following 3 straight dirt routes......he showed a liking to the green carpet in his MSW debut which was down the hill......but maybe most importantly he is training more like a Stakes horse than a MSW making his 5th lifetime start

1  Trojan Spirit   solid awakening in his latest with the blinkers put on for the 1st time........another 1st for today as in 1st time turf......owns a solid pedigree to take to it and maybe in a big way.......good post and turf rider to boot

3  Sellwood   very consistent sort on the sod (7 0 4 2) and he has never been beaten by more than 3 1/2 lengths for the win.....but he has never put his nose in front in a race suggesting he doesn't understand what it means to pass the last horse in front of him........aka a hanger

race 5    average clarity

3  Sense of Glory   back to Pedroza who won for fun on this Becerra five-year old gelding two races back at two levels lower........stepping up today hints he is feeling awfully good right now and his recent morning works support the notion.......Martin will attempt to wire the field as the best speed in the field

6  Tasunke Witco   2 for 2 in route races when today's jockey Tiago Pereira has been aboard......solid preparatory works.......both of his aforementioned route wins came from the outer-most post which is the case today as well

5  My Farmer   one for one at today's 1 1/16th distance........drop should help especially if Rowan elects to sit back some because if he attempts to deal with the speed of our top pick he likely will get "burnt"

race 6    average clarity

2  Lucky Soul  screaming out for more ground to cover and gets........also gets first time Prat and for a trainer in McCarthy who is firing on all cylinders.......big step up for a M75000 grad to handle a nw alw race but at the distance of 10F he has a shot at being up to the task

8  Starting Bloc   dangerous trainer these days in Alfredo Marquez with turf runners as in 8 wins with his last that Bejarano got him in the game earlier in his latest which was a win.......not much speed in here so he might sit fairly close in mid pack his chances if he does

7  Hot American   great spot for blinkers on as this three-year old might sit in a decent stalk or mid back position and he is in light with the bug boy up........less weight anywhere from 3 lbs to 12 lbs vs his foes.......yikes

4  Gain Ground

6  King Caymus

race 7    average clarity

2  Psychedelicat   four-year old gelding seems best racing at the somewhat "specialty sprint distance" of 7 furlongs.........1st & a 3rd in 2 starts and both efforts were better than par when you adjust for trip.......and the better of the two was run off of short rest.......13 days since his last.......switches back to the rider who rode the 7F races........seems well meant for Hollendorfer and company

5  Giddymeister   Dallas Keen is 13 for his last 36 (70% in the money) route to sprint and 6 for his last 18 2nd start with trainer........that and his 3 starts at the meeting have led to a 1st, 2nd & a 3rd.......and we get a significant rider upgrade......all systems go

4  Blame Joe   obviously can crush these if his good health is intact......but even for Miller who is seldom afraid to lose a horse this is an alarming drop......flip a coin type - the kind that I despise

1  Quad

7  Jersey's Heat

race 8    below average clarity

3  Gallantlystreaming   Sadler has been a little chilly at the fall SA meeting but he might jump-start things here with this two-year old filly 1st time starter.........good grass breeding and a prolonged work regiment that hints she is well-meant in her MSW debut

8  Rather Nosy   Callaghan has two in here as he also conditions our 4th choice.......another 1ster who owns a good grass pedigree and is working well enough to be dangerous in her MSW debut......that and she draws the attention of one fine turf rider with young developing horses in Flavien Ptrat

1  Miss Stormy D   yet another 1st time starter with a prolonged work series that hints that this is not a has tossed one winner from one starter who was a turf winner and a Stakes winner.......dangerous sort from the Carla Gaines barn

11 AE  Ask the Customer    SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

5  True Validity

9  Diva in Charge
