Santa Anita for Friday 26 October 2018

Don't miss out on purchasing the Breeders Cup at Churchill Downs on November 2nd and 3rd. (Breeders Cup races only. 5 two-year old races on Friday and 9 three and up races on Saturday)

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

4  Rancor   lone one mile turf race is a strong Santucci fig with 3.5L of pace adjustment........and today we get a rider that is so much more accomplished in turf routes than the jock (an apprentice at the time) who rode that day.........away since April but working like she is meant and ready fresh off of the bench

6  She Be Striking   R Mandella is heating up and this filly is racing turf sprint - turf sprint - turf route for her third lifetime start.......like our top choice she also gets a significant rider upgrade.....should be a tough cookie

5  Magical Gray   solid par like turf sprint in her last and she owns an abundance of early turf speed........1st at a route and that is right in the trainer's wheelhouse......as in 5 for his last 19

2  Stradella Road

race 2    below average clarity

4  I Am the Danger   nicely improved in his latest 1st out following the Doug O'Neill claim......same distance and rider for today and with a.m. work that hint similar or better should occur this afternoon........similar might do the trick.....better would be tough to beat

1  Buck Duane   likely needs to kick clear early as he is not the only speed in the race.......if he does he should benefit from the abbreviated 5 1/2F sprint distance especially with the 5 lbs off with the bug boy up

5  Quick Finish   seems like a good spot for the blinkers off as the connections likely want him to sit off of the pace some with 3 other speed horses in here

race 3    below average clarity

4  Sutro   just fired her lifetime best in latest in her 1st at a route......and considering she had little support on the board the effort likely surprised the barn some as they might not have had her fully cranked up.......if that is true expect much more from her today.........the fact Smith lands here for his only mount of the day hints the notion is correct

2  Miss Voluptuous   SCRATCHED OUT in general Patrick Gallagher is not a trainer that gets them ready at 1st asking but now and then he does.......decent preparatory drills and draws the attention of Prat and his agent.......dangerous sort

9  Dearborn   blinkers on might help her overcome a tough post at one mile on the sod as she might show plenty of early speed and not get caught out too wide on turn one........if that is the case she might be rated too low

7  Arctic Roll

5  Take a Leap

race 4    average clarity

5  Li'l Grazen   most of her career on the dirt fits quite well in this spot which is not particularly tough.......that and the SA dirt has been her best racing surface to date

1  Spectacular Move   claimed by Morey who has been slightly chilly at the meeting but overall he has broken into the S Cal racing scene in a big way in 2018........and he has a good history dropping off of a claim.......sharp 3/43 5F work one week ago is very reassuring

3  Discatsonthesquare   trainer is 40% win with his last 150 1st out following a claim........that is the case today........7 year old mare is (12 2 2 3) on the SA dirt and (14 0 5 2) racing everywhere else

7  Bobbie Lincoln

race 5    average clarity

4  Lead Star   toss out 1st route which was two back as it was nothing more than a 46 to 1 spin around the track in a MSW race which kept the claiming vultures at bay racing in a MC50K......he went off a telltale 6 to 5 favorite and won quite easily.......in 7 lbs lighter today with the switch to the bug boy Espinoza who is at his best in dirt route.....should be in the race from the get go and likely tough thru out

2  Palladium   solid improvement for this O'Neill two-year old in his latest 1st at a route in a small Stakes race at Emd........should fit very well if he handles his 1st on the SA dirt as well

3  Big Impression   last placed over his noggin is better than it appears in print........nice three work series since for his 1st around two turns........good pedigree to handle the new challenge.....trainer has been heating things up some

race 6    average clarity

3  Extreme Heat   new trainer for today with that comes a switch to Pratt who makes for a significant rider upgrade from who rode this gelding's last 3 grass races and those three figs for those races earned are decent........and there is also a one level drop today......hard not to like

7  Gray Admiral   trainer has woken up from a prolonged slump and his gelding won the 28 Sept version of this race over at Dmr only to be DQ'ed........that race fits and I don't see many reasons that he can't repeat the effort

2  Jack and I   improving sort should benefit from a full furlong cut back in distance endurance wise........Pedroza should sit close up saving ground thru turn one and that folks is usually 1/2 the battle

1  Acclimate

5  Gracida

race 7    average clarity

6  Algorithmnblues   solid breakthrough in latest and if she can run as well on the Santa Anita dirt as she just ran on the GG turf she should be tough in this spot.......pedigree suggests this two-year old filly likely will do just that

3  Divine Dharma   ice-cold trainer/rider combo but this filly moved forward in her 2nd lifetime start and if she manages another move in the desired direction (and handles the two turns) she should be a player here

4  American Falls   beaten 27L for the win but she did beat 4 of 8 foes at one level higher despite a very wide trip.........race might have been a gimme......if so lookout today

10  Cassie Belle

2  In the Spotlight   SCRATCHED OUT

race 8    average clarity

6  Oscar Dominquez   very consistent efforts competing at 10F & 11F on the grass and he just won at 9F (top number at 9F too) for the 1st time..........which.........logic suggests he might be up for even better today racing at a distance where he owns a better history

5  Maestro Dearte   acts like he wants to run all day long and also has a pedigree on mom's side that screams "the longer the better"...........away since early March but working solidly and he has run awfully well "fresh" in the past

1  Any Questions   here's our comment prior to his last race as our 22 to 1 top pick: "good post and a jock upgrade.........4 for 8 at the distance.......just ran 4th at GG vs better........plenty of speed signed up to aid his late running style.......should be a price"........ran too well to lose and I believe the 10F will be to his liking this time around as he ran off the board the only other time he has run at 10F

7  Well Developed
