Santa Anita for Saturday 3 November 2018

Rather "cheap" card for a Saturday which I am not too crazy about but Sunday's card is full of quality making for nice way for Santa Anita to close out the fall meeting.

Best of luck as always!

race 11  at Churchill Downs the Breeders' Cup Classic

6  McKinzie   Baffert colt showed his merit in his very first racing endeavor with a brilliant 7F 1:22:70 and did on a surface that was rated 3 slow (by yours truly) for the day and he did pressing a solid pace while being caught a little wide.........since then he has done little wrong including a solid layoff win in the G1 PaDrby at Prx.....and since the race he has worked two bullet 6F works the 2nd of which on the 21st of Oct was an eye-popping 1:11:1 on a fairly deep/slow surface.....and it is very reassuring that Mike Smith lands here.......if this fellow in sitting on his best to date he will be one tough cookie and seemingly has a shot even if he isn't

14  Accelerate   probably will go off at higher odds than most people think as the word is out at how poorly Sadler has done in the Breeders Cup......hard to have better (very proven) race horse to get Salder his big BC winner.......what  has Sadler done with his others 2018 BC runners so far might be the question

11  Mind Your Biscuits   very impressive 1st ever on the CD surface in a 9F affair albeit vs much softer competition.........his pedigree suggested that he would not handle the distance.......and so it still hints he won't care much for 10F offered today....but maybe not as he sure finished up strong at 9F

7  West Coast    the other Baffert runner has been settling for minor awards of late and might not be at his best at 10F.......still he is talented and if he is up to his best to date he might have a shot at the top prize

Long-shot selection:   1 Thunder Snow   well proven on the dirt including a crushing win in the Dubai World Cup........3rd out after a break might have him at a peak........but he does have a tough post to deal with

Long-shot selection:   2  Roaring Lion   world-class trainer in John Gosden has won this race before and here he sends a sharp colt who is bred OK for the dirt and has won on soft and firm turf and the AW hinting he might be an athletic sort.......if he can handle dirt in his face he might upset the apple cart

race 1    average clarity

2  Lil Milo   Alfredo Marquez is quietly having quite the year as compared to past years.......sure like that Bejarano sticks with this three-year old following a useful since the debut are improved hinting we will see more today

8  Bless His Heart   blinkers on to help this gelding's focus and help him last the 6F which when examining his running lines has not been easy for him....but this is a soft group so if the equipment change helps he should be a factor in the outcome of this MC50K affair

1  All I Can Say   best efforts/figs in the field but for a horse who appears to have some health issues I'm not too crazy about him racing off of 6 days rest in his last and now wheeling back in 16 days rest....but if he is able to handle the stress he is definitely rated too low

7  Astonishing Tweet

5  Levi's Saint James

race 2    average clarity

8  Staythirstymyamigo   I like the 6F Breeze that Freeman put into his two-year old filly as her endurance has been a little short......speed is not.......believe she once again will be in the mix from the start but this time much tougher when push comes to shove in the stretch

4  Disco Tale   similarly to our top pick this youngster needs more endurance and her one mile grass race in her latest might provide........that and trainer Hector Palma is decent route to sprint

6  Cash for Cass   no action on the board whatsoever in her MSW debut hints the race was a gimme to drop and go with plenty of doubt in the minds of the claiming vultures......already showed some speed in her debut and now adds blinkers......likely will attempt to take them gate to wire

1  La Dolfina

race 3    below average clarity

4  Nine Point Nine   good time to drop following a dull race and with ample time to recover as in 45 days .........lone win in her last two years (total of 11 races) came the only time she was up for a tag and........6 1/2F on the turf for $50K then........5F on the turf for $40K now

10  Helen's Tiger   consistent turf sprinter and she appears best at today's 5F distance.....would have bee top choice if it wasn't for such a difficult post for a mid pack runner

8  Tizanillusion   mare consistently tries hard  and seems best at 5F on the sod.....and she gets a rider upgrade this afternoon......not out of the win picture by any means.....pun intended

7  A Little Bit Me

race 4    average clarity

4  Junior Gilliam   solid improvement in his latest back on a surface he appreciates (12 4 5 1)........plenty of speed in the race should flatter his late running works for today........rider upgrade for today

1  Microrithms   Baffert four-year old has been away since July of 2017 following two strong races both of which fit solidly here.......appears ready to roll fresh but he is one of five speed horses in this affair.......can he put the others away or is he capable of rating.......we will find out today

5  Aristocrat   like our top selection he is at his best at SA (7 2 4 1)........another who likes to duke it out on the lead but that might change today as the blinkers come off hinting Miller wants him off the pace today......dangerous if that is the case and he is capable of it

3  Best Two Minutes

race 5    below average clarity

9  Ride to the Wire   Ben Cecil is quietly having a nice year with limited starters and might add to his 17% win total with this three year old colt.........hard trying sort seems to be in need of a drop and gets it today

7  Earnednevergiven   blinkers come off today for this gelding and it appears Machowsky made a good move as his recent a.m. work is improved.......also he races turf route to dirt sprint which should help his endurance this afternoon

3  Facts Matter   somewhat of a suspicious drop for this Hollendorfer three-year old but if his 1st time gelding is still he relatively good he might be rated too low

8  Heartfullofstars

2  Hoss Cartwright

race 6    below average clarity

3  Moon Kitty   tepid top selection ran his eyeballs out to grab a 1/2 beaten length 3rd as he was caught 4 wide up on the pace and did not cash it in whatsoever........(5 0 0 0) on the turf to date but her lone race at 5f on the grass is solid and also disguised like his last race......should be a price

2  Easy Grader   Eddie Truman's five-year old mare has preformed very well in the past off of long layoffs and likely is ready fresh once again for Gary Stevens to accept the mount

4  Family Girl   ignoring her lone lifetime grass race because it appears that she is not a route horse as she lacks the endurance as she also ran poorly at 7F on the dirt as well.........last race on a good track is better than appears in print......stout rider/trainer comb........another who is dangerous at a price

6  Tyfosha

5  Dis Smart Cat

race 7    below average clarity

8  Anothertwistafate   very strong work regiment at GG in preparation for today's MSW debut at SA........colt was bought 5 months ago and didn't come cheap.........Blaine Wright is decent with debut runners and entices a solid N Cal jock in Juan Hernandez to ride

12  Stretford End   very strong MSW debut running a strong final time and showing plenty of early speed........placed 2nd mostly because he loses Pratt who is riding at CD and has to deal with the outer-most 12 post

3  Taos   no support at the windows in his MSW debut which was run 2 1/2 months prior to his debut hinted he needed the race as did the lack of betting on are dynamite now with 1st time blinkers .....rider is struggling and it would sure be nice if he cut into his slump here with this long-shot

11  Count Di Luna

2  Railman

race 8    average clarity

2  Storm the Hill   by far at her best on the SA grass (4 for 6 & 0 for 15 anywhere else) and 2 of her wins came down the hill........D'Amato has her very sharp in the a.m. as he realizes her prowess on the SA grass and it will be quite some time until his filly can race at SA again

1  Out of The Flames   decent races down the hill but she does lose the services with Prat who is riding at the BC.......but Martin Garcia is getting his mojo back and might be able to work out a nice mid pack ground saving trip

7  Trevieza   consistent efforts down the hill and might have considered on top if she din't lose Bejarano to our top choice......I like the GG rider Hernandez on the grass but he lacks in experience in races down the hill which is often quite necessary

6  Painting Corners

5  Rubilinda

race 9    average clarity

11  Gemini Journey   3 of her last 4 fit very solidly here and her latest 1st time racing for Treece is disguised in it's strength........and the trainer is willing to drop here to win

2  Hero for Hire   last is better than it appears as this filly was caught wide up on the pace ....and like our top selection her connections are willing to drop to enhance her chances of visiting the circle of joy.

7  Miz Tianjin   just claimed by Pender and he smartly steps his new shooter up a level as her last was decent and she is 3 for 5 at SA on the dirt lifetime..........trainer is 18% win first following a claim

3  Kristie's Heart

1  She Began Again

race 10    average clarity

8  Cruel Intention   1 to 5 in his MSW debut and he ran like one........never really pushed hard in the race so my guess is he will have plenty in the tank for today enhancing his chances of going 2 for 2 for Baffert and company

7  Listing   way too ambitious in his 2nd start following a Cal-bred 100K Stakes debut win.......back where he belongs.......has a shot if Baffert's horse doesn't run as well as I think he will

4  Galilean   like our 2nd selection this colt broke his maiden in a 100K Stakes race in his case in open company......trainer has had a solid SA meeting and might add to his win total here

6  Whooping Jay

race 11    below average clarity

11  Opus Won   new to the scene jock Angel Cruz teamed up for nice win with Baltas overcoming a wide trip from a tough post like today......filly vs. the boys but she is out working the guys by a quite a bit and might also own the best turf pedigree in the field

6  Peedie   1st on the sod but he has a decent grass pedigree and is working sharply.....and he should get a nice ground saving near or on the front end trip with the speed that he has........ if of course he takes to the green carpet like I think he will

8  Offshore Affair   colt has hit the board in his last three all dirt sprints........and he has an adequate pedigree for the grass......if this was 4 or 5 years ago I might have placed him as top choice but it has been some time since Carla Gaines was someone you had to deal with (fear) on a regular basis

2  Nice Haircut

9  Irish Heatwave
