Del Mar for Sunday 18 November 2018

NOTE:   We will have the Thanksgiving Day card posted by 7 a.m. pacific time because of the early 11 a.m. post time next Thursday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Why Not Us   MC 1ster has put in copious furlongs of work and 4 gate works hinting Hollendorfer has him ready to roll at 1st has tossed 5 winners from 5 starters........should be a price

6  Teddy Bear   another 1st time starter who appears ready at 1st asking and John Sadler is much better than average with maiden claiming 1st time starters.......gelding is soon to turn five so why not start his career in a MC50K

4  Concur   connections have been stubborn to drop and who can blame them as this three-year old went for $500K at sale as a two-year old........gelding should fit fine here and draws Prat

race 2    average clarity

5  Bridal Arch   might be a good claim by Truman as this filly ran much better than it appears at the 6,250 level as she had about 7L of trip trouble and was only beaten by 2 3/4 for the win.........always like with Truman goes to Bejarano as his stock is usually very live when he does

8  Honor Maker   good history racing at the 8F level.......last race at Dmr (the 16 Aug version of this race) was run sprint to route......sprint in last and route today and this time around this filly is coming off of a much better sprint than what she ran before her 16 Aug race......hmmm

4  Generous Pour   best early speed in the race and a good speed rider in Maldonado up who has been teaming up with Craig Dollase with decent success of late.........dangerous sort

1  Majestic Diva

7  Briartic Gal

race 3    average clarity

4  Teacher's Treasure   exits a fast heat of two-year old state-bred MSW runners where he ran 2nd with a telltale gap of 15+ lengths to 3rd.....and he was 3 wide on a rail bias day........apprentice has looked good on him in both of his lifetime races breaking him nicely from the gate.......hard not to like this one

6  Feldspar   expensive Cal-bred 1st timer is working for Doug O'Neill as if he is meant and ready for his debut into the wonderful world that is thoroughbred suggest he has some early gas which would come in handy in this abbreviated dirt sprint of only 5 1/2 furlongs

5  Posterize   plenty of furlongs of work put into this Ian Kruljac first time starter which includes a decent 6F drill to cap off his a.m preparation.........he should have a good foundation giving him plenty of pop when push comes to shove in the late stages of this MSW affair

race 4    below average clarity

8  Implicitly   better pedigree for the grass than the dirt and his two grass sprints fit fine here number wise.......but even tough his pedigree says turf his a.m. work on the dirt at Slr is his chances if he handles it in the p.m. just as well and on a different surface

3  Grazeninamerica   the D'A wins his fair share with MC 1ster's like this fellow......and I sure like the last 3 tightly spaced drills (and his last from the gate is quite strong) to finish up his a.m. preparation

6  For the Hustle   not much speed in this affair and speed is his thing and also the jock's "thing".....would have rated higher if this was a sprint distance shorter than today's 7F

2  Road to Glory

7  Sandbed

race 5    below average clarity

7  Mikes Tiznow    impressive 5F grass race at Dmr in his 2nd lifetime start and it was run off of a 13 month hiatus from the game.........six works since the 30th of August graduation race.........repeat of the effort would be tough here and he might move forward with the race under his belt

6  Coil Me Home   last two MSW dirt sprint races are par like efforts for today's higher level.......and he owns a solid pedigree to handle the sod especially in a sprint......back to Prat who has been aboard for 2 of his 3 lifetime races

1  Quick Finish   stepped up only once in his career (MC50K to MSW) and it led to his lone win which was by 7 lengths........steps up today for his 1st turf race 2nd out following a layoff.......and that was the same scenario for his previous "step up"

9  AE  Joe Jackson

2  Old Indian Trick

3  Buck Duane

race 6    average clarity

8  Nero   each lifetime race for this Baffert colt is progressively better and each is also better than appears in print......away since 10 Feb but he has shown he can run well fresh and his work tab is very strong......should be in the mix from the opening bell and tough thru-out

6  Allaboutaction   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  extremely consistent when he gets to race on conventional dirt ( 12 5 5 1).......the only time he ran out of the money he was our top pick-a-rue he should be a factor from start to finish

3  Cool Bobby   lifetime best was run in his only race to date at Del Mar......connections will likely have their fingers crossed hoping that the 6 and the 8 lock horns early and often......this colt should be flying in the stretch if they do

7  Goren

5  Best Two Minutes

race 7    average clarity

7  Omaha Beach   impressive improvement in start number two earning a better than par fig for today's MSW level......and I sure like that he is based at Dmr (and working awfully well) because so many have deal with shipping in for a race

4  Bob and Jackie   good MSW debut in a race down the SA hill grass course.......and his trainer Richard Baltas is solid 1st at a route and with 2nd time starters.....should be a player here

8  Noble Nebraskan   fits well in this spot if this Irish bred colt can run as well on firm turf as he did on a soft turf course at Kee.......his pedigree suggests he might be better suited for "soft" turf

5  Macwinnon

6  Dinesen

race 8    average clarity

2  Touching Rainbows   back to Prat (who has been absent for this gelding's last 3 races) suggests he is ready for a top effort......and if he is he has the right jock up to guide him along as Prat if 4 for 5 on him

3  Edwards Going Left   fabulous consistency when not competing in Graded races......handles the Del Mar main track well and he is (5 2 1 2) racing at today's 7F distance......should be a major factor in the outcome of this affair

4  Solid Wager   strong late runner is at his best racing at the somewhat specialized distance of 7 furlongs......that and Miller has had him for a long time and knows how to get him ready

8  Ann Arbor Eddie    SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

1  Tough But Nice

race 9    average clarity

8  Ostini   rather amazing 2nd (albeit a 5 1/4 length 2nd) as this four-year old was caught wide thru-out pressing a hot pace......hopefully 21 days is enough time to recover from such a big effort.......if he has bounced back quickly he will be tough

7  Push Through   very consistent and he likely will make a good account of himself.......but.......a couple of negatives: he might be hanger and he really has only run one powerful effort/fig for the MSW level........that being his race 3 back

1  Bouncing Around   nice sprint MSW dirt tune-up for this Carava 2nd time starter.......and the trainer is good with 2nd time starters and not so hot with 1st time starters......and he also is good "1st time at a route"........and the pedigree for this gelding is better for the turf than the dirt

3  Cool Your Jets

4  Reckless Gravity

2  According to Buddy    SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE
