Del Mar for Friday 23 November 2018

OK race card today and Saturday's card is very nice (more like a summer Del Mar Saturday card) both in quality and handicapping wise.

Best of luck as always!!

race 1    average clarity

3  London Hotel   last two races vs. better should fit solidly here.......voided claim in last but seemingly plenty of time to recover.......that and dropping following a voided claim by my book is a good move as it puts plenty of doubt into the minds of the claiming vultures loomed overhead

5  Whata Flirt   filly has just run two straight races that are much better than appear in print and those efforts would have led to wins with cleaner jock gets a shot today and the bug boy has been teaming up with O'Neill for 18% win over the last two months

2  Second Fiddle   1st on the dirt today following 3 straight grass races to start her career.....her 1st two turf races produced numbers that fit.....her latest on the drop to MC40K doesn't at all........drops again and takes the blinkers off......needs a rebound and needs one on a new surface.......tough call

race 2    average clarity

2  Eddie Haskell   believe Glatt is lured into dropping this gelding into a claimer because he is (4 3 1 0) at Del Mar on the sod and (5 0 0 2) on other turf 62,500 he is still 12,500 higher than Glatt took him for........that and he is best at 5F on the grass.......and.......this should be his last or 2nd to last shot to run at Dmr until mid July

7  Air Vice Marshall   very consistent since O'Neill took over the training of this former east coast runner......he has been away since 8 June but he has shown that he can run well fresh in the past and is trainer extremely well

8  Eric the Trojan   late running grass sprinter should be flying late as usual and with the ever dangerous Flavien Prat in the irons

1  Regal Born

3  Distinctive B

race 3    above average clarity

5  I'm Sassy   lifetime best and quite a bit better than par for today's racing level was her lone racing endeavor at Dmr and it was also run at 5 1/2 furlongs........Sam Scolamieri starts very few by you best take note when he does especially with the MSW to MC move

2  South Boot Shirley   turf to dirt today for her 2nd out following the 5 month layoff and drops........may have been pointed for today's race all along........lookout is that is the case

4  Perfect Portrait   proven fresh and she is running 10 weeks "fresh" today......blinkers on for the 1st time and with an aggressive tightly spaced work series spaced at 5 or 6 day internals.......potential for better is there for today

race 4    average clarity

8  Mo Bob  ran only 1 1/4 lengths behind our 2nd selection on Nov. 11th in his 1st race in the USA following his debut in Ireland......Santucci fig for the effort was equal to our 1st pick and I believe he will benefit from the race

5  Aussie Fox   all 4 lifetime route grass races fit well in this spot which is the lowest level this gelding has ever seen to date racing on the grass......good sign that Drayden Van Dyke elects to stay put

4  Getaloadofthis   solid pace set in his latest in a dirt mile and he did it on a dull rail......did extremely well to stick around for 2nd.........2 bullet works since the claim and Hollendorfer sees fit to step him up multiple MC levels for his 1st on the sod.......seems like dangerous speed here if he handles his 1st on the turf with the 5 lbs bug up

2  Forecheck

1  Molaf

race 5    below average clarity

5  C. C. Zipp   consistent five-year old mare ran her lifetime best 3rd out following a layoff 3 races back......third out following a layoff again today and for 1st time Miller following a claim.......hard not to like

6  Duranga   (6 3 1 1 1) in sprint races and (3 2 1 0) at Del Mar.......drop to 16K doesn't bother me too much as she was claimed by Mulhall for 20K in July and since she has done her best racing at Del connections would be more likely to risk losing her today as it will likely be a long time before they can race at Dmr again

7  Gemini Journey   filly has been very consistent in her last six (6 2 2 2) and was just snatched up at the claiming box by Vallejo........the trainer is at his best 1st out following a claim as in 28% with his last 29......rider upgrade and it is a subtle one

4  Christy Jackson

race 6    average clarity

7  Ya Gonna Wanna   very well prepared for his two lifetime Grade 2 races running 2nd at 11F and 3rd at 10F........1st time Prat........and gets to go 12F for the 1st time today which in all likelihood will be a good fit for this late running four-year might not be so good for many in the field

8  Chicago Style   best in marathon affairs with 2 wins, a 2nd and a 3rd in 4 starts in them and also appears to be racing on his favorite turf surface........good history with today's rider Van Dyke our top selection he should sit towards the rear of the field and come flying late

6  Marckie's Water   doesn't own a pedigree that screams "marathon" but so far he has won his only 10F turf race and 11F turf race and in both races was finishing as if 12F should be OK and maybe even a plus.......a touch short number wise but recent works are improved and he gets to carry 3 to 6 lbs less today than he has carried in his last 7 races

1  Beach View

race 7    above average clarity

2  She's a Dime   on the improve with each and every start with few reasons not to believe the trend can't continue today.......that and the extra half furlong to travel looks as if it will be a plus for this young filly

6  Cassie Belle   cut back in distance should really help this filly finish up well at today's 6 1/2F........that and I like when Sean McCarthy uses T C Baze for the first time especially when it is a rider upgrade like it is here

5  Imminent   very solid layoff run in last in the 2 Nov. version of this race.......and......the strength of the effort is hidden to some degree as this filly ran wide and did so up on the pace.......would have rated higher if I wasn't a touch concerned about her ability to run as well going 6 1/2 as she just did at 5 1/2

3  Meritocracy

race 8    average clarity

1  Sutro   nice forward move in his last running a par like effort for the MSW level........and her pedigree and running lines both suggest an additional 1/2 furlong to travel will be a plus

5  She Be Striking   last and her 1st at a turf route was decent.........but considering Richard Mandella is 35% win "2nd time at a route" with his last 17 (and Prat stays put) it seems likely that a forward move is in the cards

6  Arctic Roll   solid move forward in her 2nd lifetime start in Great Britain run off of 17 days rest.......showed up for her 3rd start 2 1/2 months later at Del Mar and ran OK ........she is running in her 2nd start in the USA today off of a 28 break.........a forward move seems likely

7  Kaydetre

4  Smart Win
