Del Mar for Saturday 1 December 2018

Very nice card today but I will be very disappointed if the Del Mar folks don't keep all the turf races on the sod as they have months to repair the minor damage to the course.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

8  Swamp Souffle   on the improve with each and every race and the strength of his last two races is disguised by two consecutive bad trips........1st on the grass with only an average pedigree for it.....but.....good time for 1st time Prat as good a grass rider as he is

1  Honcho   up for an enticing tag so the (2nd best of 71) near bullet drill hints that the barn has him feeling good as they realize he might by hauled off by someone else following today's race

5  I Belong to Becky   toss out her latest as the connections got a little bit too ambitious.......back where she fits especially if she lives up to her good grass pedigree.......two year gelding should be in the mix from the get go on or near the lead

2  Saltarin

4  Ack

race 2    above average clarity

5  Spend Spend Spend   lone lifetime dirt race was run way back in late January following a turf race debut........the dirt effort was quite impressive notching a solid time for the given day and doing so running wide up on the pace on a day the rail was biased some.........laid up since the effort but training as if she is all set to rock n roll

3  Gracious Me   away since 4 February but 1st time with Miller as the conditioner.......and the meets leading trainer seemingly has his new shooter sharp with some tightly spaced solid drills with the last 3 worked at Del Mar......three year old filly might need lifetime best to beat our top choice's 1st time Peter Miller

4  Confidentially   lone lifetime start was way back on 10 June and wasn't too bad considering how difficult it is to get a given horse to be competitive debuting in a route........nice works and the fact Rosario and his agent want the mount suggest John Shirreffs this filly ready fresh

race 3    average clarity

1  Calculator   very solid sprint turf races down the hill over at SA.....1st at the abbreviated turf distance of five furlongs but he can really fly when asked with Prat has done the two times his has been on his back........away since April but training as if he is as good as new fresh off of the bench

5  Eddie Haskel   hard to argue with 4 wins and a 2nd in 5 starts at 5F on the turf at Del Mar......that and he is capable on or just off off the lead......and we get a jock upgrade to Rosario

7  Cistron   can Sadler be any colder (no wins and one 2nd with 20 starters at Dmr) since his big win in the Breeders Cup.......some shot to snatch his 1st win at meeting here as he has this colt training lights out........four year old seems capable of taking back and performing well like he did on 17 June down the hill at SA......plenty of speed in this affair should help the late runners in this abbreviated 5F turf sprint

9  Bay Muzik

race 4    average clarity

5  Powerful Thirst   best races are with the blinkers on sprinting on the dirt which is the case today as well as his last 4 races (4 1 1 1 1)...........good history with 4 or 4 1/2 weeks off and gets that today.......underrated rider Ruben Fuentes sticks around.......should be flying late.....hopefully not too late in this shortened sprint of only 5 1/2F

6  Placido   trainer is 6 for his last 20 1st time he puts a given horse in a claiming race.......but in this case he drops multiple levels and thus it makes for a more suspicious drop......a flip a coin type that I never like seeing in a given race

7  Schulace   three-year old has some obvious physical problems but if he has one more decent race left in him he fits fine here......step up of one level hints he might

1  Isee It in Hiseyes

8  Builder

race 5    average clarity

9  My Sweey Baboo   both lifetime MSW races which were also at today's one mile on the grass and at Dmr are quite a bit better than par......Prat wisely stick around.......two year old filly is easy to make as top pick-a-rue

1  Opus Won   three different points of trouble in her last (which was her 1st on the sod and 1st at around two turns) hides a decent effort.......and this afternoon we get one significant rider change/upgrade to Geroux.......not out of the win picture by any means

3  Queen Ryker   two very solid races in Ireland vs. the boys to start her career running 4th in a 12 horse field and then 2nd in a 16 horse field.....been away 3 months since that 16 horse field and shows up in the Gallagher barn.......not sure if she is fully ready today but if she is lookout

4  Enamored

2  Woodfin

race 6    average clarity

2  Mongolian Humor   by far at her best racing on the dirt and it appears that the barn realizes that now.........repeat of her last would likely be very tough here......Bejarano was up for the 1st time in her latest which was a 3 1/2 length win and remains up today.......such a deal

7  Gypsy Blu   strong sprint grass race in latest and the effort sure appears to have muscled her up as she worked a solid bullet 4F work since her 11 Nov. race........and Aaron Gryder has had only a few mounts at the meeting but they have been live ones

1  Sauce On Side   quite the jockey upgrade today for this three-year old filly from the ever dangerous Miller barn......filly has never run at the 7F distance but she has run well at 6 1/2F and at one mile so I doubt that 7F will be a problem

4  Tapitha Bonita

8  Vallestina

race 7    average clarity

4  River Boyne   5 for 7 in 2018 and appears at his best at the 9F turf distance where he owns 3 wins and a 3rd in 4 races........recent a.m. works hint he has held form........good post to help Prat get an excellent mid pack or stalking position saving ground at least thru turn one........lifetime best in last and gets in 4 lbs lighter have to like that

6  Raging Bull   solid east coast invader from arguably the USA's top turf trainer in Chad Brown.......if the grass course has some give to it he is well proven on grass that is rated good or yielding

8  Desert Stone   very sharp right now and seems poised for his best to date both in the a.m. and the p.m.........that and he is a fairly smooth runner so Baze's chances of working out a good trip are decent......dangerous price shot

2  Kazan

1  Have At It

race 8    average clarity

8  Stretford End   two powerful 2nd place finishes/figs in two MSW races both of which were supported by significant gaps to 3rd......absolutely the one to beat if he holds form and gets a decent trip

4  Kingly   brilliantly bred 1st time starter and with the deadly trainer/rider team these days in Baffert/Van Dyke at the helm......seems likely to be a major factor in the outcome of this two-year old MSW affair

7  American Camp   another 1st time starter with a nice pedigree and working as if he is meant and ready in his debut......the fact buddy Desormeaux is up supports the notion he is a full blown go this afternoon

6  My Mandate

2  Green Fleet

race 9    below average clarity

7  Kennedy Sky   quite the rider upgrade (especially considering the 5 lbs weight break for the bug boy) for the first time in five races ..........away since February but Rafael Deleon has put copious furlongs of work into his mare.......trainer has won 2 of 3 starts at the meeting and the last time he rode Figueroa it led to a nice priced win

10  Thalia   filly has run one race that fits well in this spot.......and that race was the only time she raced in a two turn grass race.......tough post but the right guy to overcome it in Prat is up

1  Marjorie E   very reliable since going on Lasix.....2nd out following a break might bring out the best in her....... loses Prat to the 10 horse but Mr. Rosario (and the 1 post) will do just fine

4  Sapphire Kid

3  Drop the Mic

5  Quinne
