Del Mar for Sunday 2 December 2018

Mandatory payoffs today. Also there is a SHF carryover in race 9 of $16K.

Los Alamitos starts up Thursday and originally (as noted in our calendar) we were not going to provide 2 days of the meeting. But instead of that we will provide all the days but with names and numbers only.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Cheyenne Dancer   bug boy might get his 1st lifetime win with this filly coming off of an effort that if she repeats it (and gets a better trip) would likely win this MC20K affair......even her two previous efforts look pretty good here.......should be in the mix from the get go

4  Token Vow   filly does well fresh and she is 65 days "fresh" today ........and she takes another drop in the maiden ranks.......trainer is stout with muti-level drops......and.......over the last two months when he has legged up bug boy Figueroa they have won 3 and hit the board with the other two

2  Encountress   69 to 1 in her career debut and then 74 to 1 in her 2nd lifetime start suggests her two MSW races were nothing more than exercise and that a full-blown go might occur today dropping into a MC20K .........and a rider upgrade for today supports the notion

3  One Upper

race 2    average clarity

5  Powder   quite consistent and 2 for 3 lifetime at Del Mar......last three racing efforts sure appear to fit well here......1st out after the Hess claim who is a decent 21% with his last 63 "1st following a claim".......that and Van Dyke rides thru the claim......believe she will stalk our 2nd selection

7  Coco Kisses   filly has a decent shot to snatch the lead here and gets a top east coast jock in Irad Ortiz Jr. to hold her together from start to finish.......pegging her chances of getting the lead at 60/40

1  Sunrise Royale   has not missed the board in 5 lifetime starts and her last two with Figueroa up are her best to day........she likes to sit mid pack and should get that position today.........if 5 and 7 both go after the front end and bang heads she is rated too low

6  Venue

race 3    average clarity

1  Shaky Alibi   earned a solid Santucci fig in his latest mostly because of the stout pace he had to deal with.......he did awfully well to hang on for 3rd in a grass race 1/16th further than today.........seems best at Del Mar so hopefully Gaines will pull out all stops to have him ready as July is a long time off

3  Raging Tiger   tough trip in latest and the trouble is rather subtle......1st time long........1st time Irad Ortiz Jr........both should enhance this well bred colt's chances of graduating today

5  Irish Spirit   1st on the lawn but owns a pedigree that handles almost any surface including the sod......that and he gets a rider upgrade.......2nd lifetime start which was run 2 1/2 months ago and was a decent dirt route at Lrc......and that race was also run off of a 2 1/2 month break

7  Dimkar

4  Arch Anthem

race 4    average clarity

7  Go Ghetto   Peter Miller took an 8K horse by way of the claiming box which suggests he really likes the horse......and we get quite the bug boy upgrade to one that struggles to one that does not........such a deal

4  Hot Paris Night   five-year old gelding takes a logical drop as he can't handle the 16K nw3 level......last win came at the 12.5K nw2 level which just happens to have the same par as today's open 8K........away since Jan but appears all cranked up and ready for J Hollendofer and company

2  Banze No Oeste   drop makes sense for this Knapp runner whose last win was 5 back which was the last time he ran for 8K........that and Knapp runners have been firing and firing better than his overall record at Dmr suggests (14 2 1 2)

3  Vending Machine

10  Preacher Roe

race 5    below average clarity

8  Foxtail   Sadler has been absolutely ice-cold but he might have this filly feeling good to get Ortiz to ride because down the road he my want his services in an important race on the east coast.....in other words not waste his time

2  Blitzkreig   won the war in his latest (pun intended) to graduate in style with 1st time Pratt.......like that he improved plenty in the race taking back off of the pace to have something left for the late stretch.....look for the same maneuver today

10  Kris' Wild Kat   owns enough early gas to clear all or most by the turn and if Bejarano accomplishes that task he should make this gelding a major player in the outcome of this race

6  Offshore

4  Lucky Knickers

race 6    below average clarity

2  Don'tbeboisterious   route turf to dirt sprint and blinkers on today for a filly who has not exited the gate too well in 3 lifetime starts......sure like both of those moves.......also a new jock in Bejarano........race two back is impressive as the heat was fast and she had about 5L of trip trouble......watch the start as her break might be the key to her chances of graduating

7  Adorably Sweet   Mike Puype 1st timer starter finished her work regiment with an impressive 4F gate work.......that and she draws Van Dyke who has been "very live" with the last 4 runners he has gotten from Puype

4  Kate's Princess  very dangerous trainer in Dollase stepping up from MC to MSW as in 2 wins with his last 4 with the move.......that and his filly sure seems to have benefited from her debut as she shows a vastly improved gate work

6  She's a Brewer

3  Sierra Sunrise

race 7    average clarity

9  Vasilika   what a roll this filly has been on since Hollendorfer claimed as she is a perfect 8 for 8 on firm turf with her last 3 G1 or G2 wins.......she gets in 2 lbs less today than her last which was a G2 win......retains Prat for the 9th straight race.....and........she has been one smooth runner so breaking from the 9 hole is not much of a concern especially considering the solid Midwest and East Coast invaders have even wider posts to deal with

12  Dona Bruja   ultra consistent six-year-old mare and especially when Declan Cannon has been in the saddle.......and I like her versatility as she is capable of winning on or off of the pace......if she gets an OK trip it is very hard not seeing her as a major factor in the outcome of this race

5  Quidura   our 6th selection has tremendous turf route speed so my guess is that Jose Ortiz will attempt to sit back a couple of lengths and stalk her as she is very capable of winning off of the pace.......and if that is the strategy it obviously will enhance her chances and that of the 3 horse as well

14  Rymska

13  Uni

3  Fahan Mura

race 8    average clarity

4  Calexman   colt has only seen main track surfaces twice and in both cases caught "monsters" to deal........the race that really stands out and is much better than par for today's level was run against Triple Crown winner Justify.....in the race on an off track he led in brutal fractions and did so on a slightly dull inside.....he did extremely well to finish 8L behind Justify in a one mile race........Cerin is dynamite with the sprint-route-sprint maneuver and that is the case here

5  Greyvitos   trainer is a perfect 2 for 2 at the meeting and has a shot to add to that here with this fellow who ran his top lifetime effort in his lone Del Mar race......not only did he earn a big fig in the race but that fig was supported by the fact that 2nd came back to win his next in impressive fashion........away since May but training up to snuff......the race at Del Mar was 7F so 6 12/F should be a good fit

7  Lord Simba   Baffert is an incredible 7 for 14 win at the Del Mar meeting........and his laid up five-year old sure is working like he is totally ready fresh off of the bench

2  Red Lightning

race 9    average clarity (SHF carryover here)

12  Jefe  last two dirt route races are way better efforts/figs than anyone else in this affair so if he can run as well on the turf he will be very tough here even will his difficult post......pedigree for the grass is good.....brother's Desormeaux at the helm

1  Loomis   wide trip in a one mile grass race hides an effort that was quite good........R Mandella runner likely surprised his connections some as he went off at 24 to 1 in his 1st on the sod......blinkers off today and a better post........seems like a player

5  Felix Leiter   14 to 1 in his debut has needed race written all over it........the one mile grass race should be useful......as in put in plenty of endurance for today's 2nd lifetime start also at one mile on the sod.......Van Dyke sticks around........and he might be riding for the for the fall Dmr riders title right here.

9  Noble Nebraskan

4  Speakerofthehouse

11  Mobou
