Santa Anita for Friday 28 December 2018

Good card today handicapping wise.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    above average clarity

1  Shining Thru   big awakening 1st time blinkers and 1st time turf in his latest and likely surprised the barn plenty as he went off at 34 to 1......repeat of the effort sure looks good in this spot.......more would be icing on the already sweet cake

4  Magnificent McCool   looks as if this O'Neill colt can get loose on the lead and that is a dangerous proposition for the opposition when Prat is in the saddle riding a two-year old around two turf turns as he is exceptional riding young developing turf horses

2  Speakerofthehouse   decent grass races but none of the three lifetime races are as good as our top selection ran in his latest......but 1st time Mike Smith who shows up for only one race on the card.......hmmmm

8  Leader of Men

9  Mysyical Moon

race 2    average clarity

4  Sooner Better   expecting a big awakening for this Keith Desormeaux MC as he has always worked very well at Slr and horse's that don't run well at Dmr and train stoutly at Slr often wake up when racing on the Kent wisely stays aboard this price shot

2  Frozen Money   good MC80K debut especially considering he likely wasn't all that cranked up as he went off at 12 to 1 in a 5 horse field for D'Amato and company........and the D'A is very strong 1st at a route with a given horse.......that is the case today

3  Rockandahardplace   not too much fig wise but if our top two fail to fire he is the best of the rest

race 3    average clarity

5  Don't Stalk Me  (4 3 0 1) at the distance and his off pace style sure seems to fit this race well as the 1 - 4 - 6 might all go for the lead playing into his hands if that is case......1st out following the Hess claim and drops......a 26% proposition with his last 19

6  Our Tiger's Boy   decent races at SA when wearing blinkers........they go back on after two straight races without them.......Ruben Fuentes (very underrated by my book) knows this three-year old well as this is his 8th straight mount on him......seems dangerous

1  Hollywood Dancer   owns plenty of early speed but lacks seems like a smart move by trainer Gus Headley to build up his endurance with many furlongs of work including two straight decent 6F gate works to finish up his preparation for today

race 4    above average clarity

6  Objective   impressive 3rd place finish in her MSW debut on 15 Nov. at Dmr in a 5F turf race where she broke poorly and then ran well especially in the late stretch where she was flying at the wire........outstanding endurance building works since.......highly likely to appreciate the 6 1/2 furlong distance.......pals Van Dyke/Proctor at the helm

12 AE  Apache Princess   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  strong route grass race 7 weeks ago at Dmr that fits well here if she can run as well in this affair down the SA hill grass course.........ran 2nd on the dirt at SA at 6 1/ she showed she can sprint and also showed she can run "fresh" team at the helm here

3  Shut It Up   like our top choice this two-year filly from the O'Neill barn debuted in the aforementioned 5F grass race at Del Mar.........and she beat our top choice by a length but earned an adjusted for trip fig that was one length less.........still she has worked solidly and surely has a shot to turn the tables here

11 AE  Encanta

5  Rather Nosy

8  IIha Do Mel

race 5    average clarity

10  One Upper   all four lifetime dirt races are better than par for today's level of racing.....trainer Ryan Hanson had one starter on opening day and his runner ran a strong race......let's hope this one is also ready to roll

6  Desired Edge   so so race in her latest which was on an off track.......race two back on a fast track was her 1st out following the Kitchingman claim and was quite a bit better than par for today's 12.5Knw2 level.......plenty of sunshine in the forecast today

3  Peachy   seems best at SA (2 1 0 1) and you have to like that Maldonado stays up as he is 4 for his last 8 riding for Papaprodromou with 2 other hitting the board

5  Copper Cowgirl

9  Dressed in Prada

race 6    above average clarity

6  Kazan   two straight bad trips hides this three-year old some.......major league rider upgrade especially for a grass race.......last isn't too shabby but what we want is his effort 2 back........if he gives that effort two back Rosario has a solid chance to visit the winners circle

5  Majestic Eagle   another with a strong race two back and in his case also four back.......if the every other trend continues this afternoon he appears awfully strong in this spot

3  Ya Gotta Wanna   very solid at one mile on the grass........decent in marathon turf 1st ever at 9 furlongs on the sod has the potential to be a very good distance for him........Prat sticks around to find out

1  Starting Bloc

8  Epical

race 7    average clarity

3  Aristocratic   four-year old gelding has never missed the board at SA when wearing blinkers (7 2 4 1)........yet to win since Miller claimed for 40K five races back so he drops multiple levels to change that........suspicious drop for many trainers but not for Mr Miller who is seldom afraid to lose a horse

4  Zap Again   away since May but returns as a first time gelding and he has shown he can fire a good fresh race in the past.......and trainer Charles Treece is solid with "fresh" in 20% win with his last 44 with runners coming off of layoffs of more than 3 months

7  Short of Ez   trainer Mike Puype won with his lone starter on opening day and has a chance to keep the ball rolling with this fellow who has plenty of early gas but has also shown the ability to run well without the front end......that gives Van Dyke options

2  Jump the Tracks

race 8    average clarity

4  Flying Scotsman    SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  on the improve with each and every race with few reasons not to believe that the trend can't continue today.......and considering that his latest (a 4 1/4 length G3 turf win) looks awfully solid here he is a very deserving favorite

3  Rijeka   ran 2nd to our top pick in the aforementioned G3 trurf race.......needs more today......4 lbs weight swing in his favorite helps

1  More Ice   major lead rider upgrade and a with a hot rider/trainer combo in Van Dyke/Hollendorfer.......colt has won 2 of his last 3 turf races and he had a brutal trip in his race two back.........but this colt needs quite a bit better to beat his barn mate as Hollendorfer also trains out top choice

8  Sparky Ville

10  Bob and Jackie

race 9    average clarity

1  Kenzou's Rhythm   by far at his best when racing on the SA dirt.......and he just fired his best effort when racing outside of SA in his logic suggest's he might be up for one of his best ever races on the SA dirt today......if he is he should be tough

10  Hard Arch   also runs well at SA and he just ran a very strong one mile race at Del Mar in his strong if fact if it wasn't for a tough post he would be the top pick-a-rue

7  Dukes Up   most of his career on the dirt fits here and he is solid at SA where he owns 4 wins with 7 starts on its main track........not out of the win picture by any means

5  Trapalanda

6  Dedicated to You
