Santa Anita for Saturday 26 January 2019

Great day of racing at GP and and an interesting card at SA. Not too late to buy the Pegasus World Cup special publication.

Best of luck as always!

race 12  G1  $9,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Invitational   1 1/8 dirt

5  Accelerate   should get a very nice mid pack or stalk position well within striking distance of the leaders and competing at a distance that suites him very well (4 3 1 0)........might have never trained better.......and what a really like is the success record of great horses making their last lifetime the connections pull out all stops to make them feel really reason to leave something in the tank

3  City of Light   did beat Accelerate once at the distance in a Grade 2 at OP by a neck but he had a 3 lbs weight advantage that day and today he takes him on with equal weights.....that and then there is the aforementioned success record of great horses making their last lifetime starts

10  Audible   by far at his best on the GP surface and his best ever was his only race at 9F and it was at GP.......likely he will be somewhat of the forgotten horse especially since J J Castellano opted for our 2nd choice.......Prat will do just fine

8  Gunevera

1  Bravazo

race 1    average clarity

2  Honor Guard   significant wake-up race off of the long layoff running for the 1st time Phil D'Amato in his last his 3rd lifetime start.......he broke tardy and then ran wide in a fast heat at 5F at Del Mar in a race taken off of the turf.......1st on the lawn and 1st at a route with a decent pedigree for both

7  Aussie Fox   three straight 2nd place route grass races in a row for this Yakteen gelding who essentially has shown he fits at the MC50K level......and he just put in an improved work hinting he might turn those 2nd place finishes into a win today

4  Outlaw   expensive purchase hasn't worked out so far so the connections are willing to drop for a win.......or.......a totally claim me please situation........we should find out about 11:30 a.m. pacific time

5  Armed Wall

9  Arch Anthem

race 2    below average clarity

4  Gleyber   colt found a level in his latest at MC30K that he was able to handle and graduate........Bejarano wisely sticks around as the O'Neill barn is firing on all cylinders and then some

6  Just Hit Play   trainer is very solid with the turf to dirt maneuver which is the case here.......three year old gelding is (3 1 2 0) on the dirt when not wearing blinkers like today........had not to like some

5  Owning   gelding likely has some physically issues but he did win dropping into to a 32K claiming race in latest......drops again 47 days later.......not sure what is left in the tank (body) but if he is OK he might make it back to back wins

race 3    average clarity

4  Irish Heatwave   just fired his best to date and it was his 1st down the SA hill grass course.....likely exited the race in great shape because he just put in what appears to be the best work out of his life.......that and Keith Desormeaux is as hot as he has been in many a moon in S Cal

3  Takeo Squared   bad trip hides an effort that is much better than appears in print.....and it was the 1st time this gelding saw the hill........better post and Bejarano can do better......lookout if he does

5  Listing   exits the same race as our top two choices and basically earned very similar adjusted Santucci figs.........mostly placed as the 3rd selection because the other two jocks are 15% win for the meeting and the jock up here is 3%........come on Mario

6  Tivan

race 4    above average clarity

1  Edwards Going Left   talented five-year old gelding appears to be at his best at SA and at today's 6F distance.......he won the 2018 version of this race by 6L and he also started from the one post that day as well ........T C Baze owns the last 4 wins for this fellow........exits a very key race.......hard not to like

5  Heck Yeah   3 for 3 on the dirt lifetime and two of those wins were at SA........Baffert can have them fully ready off of long breaks and if he has this colt ready I doubt he gives it in very easily as he has the most endurance in this field witnessed but his nice 200K Stakes route win last winter

4  Richard's Boy   very consistent seven year old on just about any surface......mostly placed 3rd as the bug boy doesn't get a weight break in this Stakes and without it you get a drop off in riders as compared to has been on this in Prat - Paco Lopez - Gaffalione - Desormeaux - Van Dyke - Rosario - and so on

race 5    above average clarity

6  Spend Spend Spend   only time this filly got a good trip on the dirt she won for fun.......all 3 dirt races are quite a bit better than par for today's level when you adjust for all relevant factors like position - pace - start - and bias......and I like the change to Talamo who has done well riding for Koriner over the years

2  Oozle   I like Mullins 3rd out after a layoff and it might be a better move as normal as this is 3rd out since he took over the former Chad Brown runner......dangerous sort and likely at a decent price

3  Easy Grader   rather consistent sort including off of breaks and seems to always fire when Bejarano rides........preparatory drills are much better for today's race than they were prior to his last race run on November 3rd

race 6    average clarity

1  Gliding By   race lacks speed and this mare has enough to go to the lead here and set a pedestrian pace or sit just off of a slow pace.......and considering this mare won the Oct 8th version of this race at SA she can be really tough here

4  Tonahutu   only race this gal ever ran on the SA turf at today's one mile distance was by far the best effort/fig of her career......and she seems set up for something similar coming off of a decent 6 1/2 turf race down the hill

6  Siberian Iris   very consistent grass cutter who has only seen the winners circle twice which might be a bit telltale considering how good she is........but one of those wins was with today's rider up........very dangerous to be in the money......somewhat dangerous to win

7  Tooreen Dancer

8  Gratzie

race 7    way below average clarity

2  Sunset Seven   tepid top choice trained impressively on the SA dirt prior to her 1st on the lawn in a race run off of a long layoff.........didn't care for it which her pedigree hinted would be the case.......back to the main track for one on the SA dirt and it was his debut......dangerous sort at a price

4  Maahes   interesting colt who has been running well at LA........especially since this race is at the abbreviated sprint distance of 5 1/2 his stalking style and consistency........another dangerous sort at a price

7  Bear Chum   layoff race in last is better than appears in print as this gelding broke slowly and then ran inside on a slightly dull rail day........he runs 2nd out after a layoff today and that is a solid training stat for Sean McCarthy......another horse with a shot and at a price

6  It Makes Sense

3  Exultation

race 8    average clarity

7  Pulpitinthesky   decent history sprinting on the dirt when not wearing blinkers which is the case today.......that and this four-year old filly is 2 for 2 racing at 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt and has not hit the board in 7 starts anywhere don't see that very often

5  Carrie's Success   best sprinting on the dirt and this gal's endurance might be better than it usually is coming off of a dirt route........and the switch in jocks to Figueroa and his 5 lbs weight break seems like a good move as the only time he rode this filly she not only won but ran her lifetime best

6  Don'teatmycookies   all three lifetime sprints fit very solidly here but can this filly race off of only 6 days rest.......have my doubts but Keith Desormeaux is hot and dangerous right now

2  Smitten Kitten

9  Christy Jackson

race 9    average clarity

7  Queen Bee to You  believe this mare is somewhat better on the turf than the dirt and she is coming off of her best two dirt races of her logically she might be up for her best on the turf today.......that and she has shown an ability to handle the sometimes tricky SA hill grass course

6  S Y Sky   mare shows up every time handling turf - fast dirt - off dirt........she has yet to miss the board in 8 lifetime starts (8 4 3 1)........she should get a good trip near the front end in a race that on paper suggests it benefits those that do

8  Barbara Beatrice   off the pace running seven-year old mare is by far at her best racing down the hill and she is rated too low.........if........this race yields a faster set of fractions than anticipated

5  Cordiality

1  Bella Luna

race 10    below average clarity

4  June Two Four   hit miss somewhat when competing in route races but when he does "hit" he can really pop a decent two turn race......that and his sprint race in last is better than appears in print

1  Buck Duane   likes the lead and he can really fly sometimes........and Knapp is rather hot right now and over the years if very dangerous with double level drops

3  Rolls Royce Deal   last was a sprint tune-up off of the 3 1/2 month break.........solid 6F gate work since the 29 December sprint.........owns some solid back numbers on the SA dirt.......dangerous price shot

8  Roaring Fork

2  Union Rebel

race 11    average clarity

9  Ashleyluvssugar    extremely consistent eight-year-old turf runner competing at any distance less than 11 furlongs........and if he has a favorite distance on the sod it might be at today's 9F where he owns 2 wins and 2 2nd's in 4 starts

3  Rye   another who runs best at 9F on the grass where he has 3 wins in 5 starts and he won the 2018 version of this race........and over the years he has been a good fit with Desormeaux on his back

5  Marckie's Water   five-year old has new been sharper.......trainer has been red hot........but rider has been ice-cold or I would have considered him as the top choice

10  King Abner

7  Camino Del Paraiso
