Santa Anita for Friday 1 February 2019

Plenty of snow followed by all-time record setting cold in Chicago and plenty of rain in the Arcadia forecast make me want to SCREAM at the moment. But what has really been difficult is that the internet and phone has been down quite a bit. I am getting reports posted this week as soon as I can so you can get access. We don't want to run into anything like what occurred last Sunday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1   average clarity

(if the race is taken off of the turf: 2-3-5-1)

6  Tammy's Window   claimed for 32K so the fact she is in for 32k 7 races later doesn't concern me much.......rider upgrade.....trainer is in go mode.....hard not to like

1  Indypendent  Deputy   race lacks speed so I like that Desormeaux is aboard as he often hustles a given runner to the lead to steal the race when he sees a race that totally lacks speed

3  Miss Boom Boom   boxed up on the 2nd turn in his latest or might have won a 25K turf race which would have made it 9 for 13 in the exacta racing in one mile grass races.......claimed in the race by Saldana who has held his own in S Cal in 2018/19

5  War Moccasin

2  Believe Indeed

race 2   average clarity

5  Matriculate   nice improvement 2nd out following an extended hiatus from the game.......dynamite history on an off rider/trainer combo........hard not to like

6  Trapalanda   very reassuring bullet work since Andrew Lerner claimed this five-year old from Mullins on 13 January.......that 6,250 claiming race was very fast and equivalent to a 12,500 claimer.........Figueroa rides thru the claim........a major player if this gelding doesn't regress off of the "big" effort

7  Boy Howdy   yet another coming off of a strong race (beat our top choice) for today's race in his latest........he was claimed by Mulhall who runs him back for the same price......mostly placed as 3rd choice as the extra 1/2 furlong might cause him to flatten out some late

3  Harrovian

race 3   average clarity

(if the race is taken off of the turf: 3-4-5)

3  Eagle Song   1st time running as far as one mile but he handled 7F in Ireland very well multiple times as a two year old......layoff run in last appears to have done some good as he put in a solid 5F work since....rider and trainer have won 2 of last 5 with the other 3 hitting the board

5  Neptune's Storm   trainer is rather hot and Bill Morey is usually dangerous sprint to route which is the case here........that and Desormeaux looks as if he can get loose but would still have a shot at the winners circle if he doesn't

1  Rijeka   race two back fits solidly but his last does not too well despite running 2nd in a small Stakes at SA......hard to tell what we get today

race 4   above average clarity

8  Coil to Strike   trainer is a stellar 13 for his last 36 1st time maiden claiming......that and this gelding's last is stronger than it appears in print.......Morey likely will have this guy very ready as he realizes he might lose the horse

7  Sea's Journey   layoff last appeared to be a gimme of sorts to put some doubt into the minds of the claiming vultures lurking over head........the fact Geovanni stays aboard supports the notion

4  Big Bad Gary   3 of his 14 lifetime races fit fine here and his best of all was the only time he ran on an off track which was rated "good".........away since July but training as if he is ready fresh

2  Captain Buzzkill

6  Soul Owner

race 5   average clarity

3  Dulce Ride   strong effort in an alw race in the slop at Kee 2 back........lost by a head for the top prize to a next out winner......decent race 1st out with Anna Maeh as the trainer.......chance at getting loose and if the track is "off" that will likely enhance her chances of lasting the 8F

4  Mongolian Humor   very wide trip in latest at one mile at SA hides an effort that fits fine with a better trip........other two one mile dirt races aren't too shabby either.......... decent pedigree to handle an off track

5  Exuberance   very good history at SA at today's one mile distance......if the track remains fast she should have been rated higher......but I doubt it will be

6  Queen Bee to You

race 6   average clarity

7  Queen of the Track   both lifetime efforts when running in maiden claiming races fit decently in this spot......both were run on the SA dirt and she handled solid fractions (for the given level) in both

5  True Validity   beat our top selection in her latest and has worked twice decently since the 5 January race.......mostly placed 2nd as the rider is still getting his feet wet in the USA despite some solid credentials since arriving

3  American Falls   moved forward in her 2nd lifetime race on 26 Oct off of 21 days rest.......27 days rest for her 4th lifetime start today........hmmm

1  Thanks

8  Palm d'Oro

race 7   average clarity

(if the race is taken off of the turf: 1-8-3-9)

4  Truffalino   very impressive win in latest winning despite not the best of trips.......and her a.m. work since suggests she has never been better........should be flying late

6  Lady Prancealot   both races on the SA turf (and at today's one mile distance) are better than par for today's our top choice she should show up in the late stages of this one mile grass race

1  Sold It   full speed ahead from the opening bell......should get loose in this spot and maybe too loose to ever get wheeled in by anyone

2  Cavernndchipmunks

8  Proud Emma

race 8   average clarity

7  Solomini   time for a confidence builder for this Bob Baffert runner who is (7 1 3 2) in two turn Graded races.......doubt he would work this guy as hard as he has if this was only a tune-up/gimme

5  Kylemore   big effort in latest at today's level and a very sharp work since.......that and an impressive reassuring bullet work since.....same or better seem likely today

1  Mongolian Groom   some shot on a fast rated dirt but if the track comes on good to sloppy his chances should be enhanced

8  Super Duper Cooper

2  Show Me Da Lute

race 9   average clarity

(if the race is taken off of the turf: 7-6-3-8-9-4)

8  Cat's Blame   Knapp is making the same maneuver as he did 30 Sep to 14 in a protected race to 35Knw3 claimer......he almost won that race and now he makes a major rider upgrade especially for a grass race (Conner to Rosario)

6  Zestful   both lifetime races down the majestic SA hill course are par like efforts.......and unless you're a touring pro golfer par is a good thing

3  Hey Sequoia  trainer is 22% win on the grass and very dangerous 2nd out following a claim.......that and this colt seems better in a sprint than a route and his one mile grass race at today's level in his latest was decent

9  Saratoga Morning

4  Bucky's Pick
