Santa Anita for Thursday 7 February 2019

Here's hoping that the Baltas/Prat combination have a very nice day as a team as they are our top selection in races 3, 5 and 6.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

7  Push Through   needs ample time between starts to fire his best and Freeman shows patience and gives it to his gelding this time around.......recent impressive 6F drill at Slr supports the notion.....seems more than ready for a strong race

8  Huddle   lead type only (so far) has an abundance of early speed and seemingly has to put away only one horse (our 2nd selection) to get loose on the lead......away since July but Sadler has put in copious furlongs of work into his colt.......hinting.......this is not a tune-up

4  Lil Milo   quite the awakening 1st on the grass in his latest in a race down the SA hill......not crazy about his pedigree to get the one mile distance but if he does he has a decent shot of being a major factor in the outcome of this race

5  Luke's On Fire

1  Acclimate

race 2    average clarity

1  Victor's Show   2 of 3 lifetime sprint races fit well here and his latest race run on 20 Jan. is disguised by a bad trip where he broke slightly tardy and ran wide on a day the rail was golden.......reassuring 4F work since.......Bejarano wisely stays put

3  Brioso   running off of two route grass races should help his endurance in this extended sprint of 7F.......that and he cuts his MC level in half......small potatoes trainer at the helm but he is able to get Rosario to ride hinting that this four-year old is doing well

6  Rak City   1 of 3 lifetime races at 7F fits and fits in a big way........and the 9 June 18 race was the only time this gelding ran at SA on a fast rated 7F race......decent rider/trainer combo to boot

race 3   average clarity

7  See That Kat   both lifetime races on the grass fit well at today's MC50K and the drop out of MSW racing doesn't concern me much as she was up for MC62,500 in November.......Prat wisely sticks around and he has teamed up with Baltas over the last two months with good success.......as in 33% win with 21 starts

5  Daybreak   will have to come from very far back but he moves up on a grass with give to it and we should get that today.........good off the pace turf rider in Bejarano

2  Roses and Candy   owns the best easy gas in the field and has a pedigree that should appreciate a turf course with some give to it which likely will be the case today.......jock has done well with limited rides as in 3 for 13

3  Boldest Vow

6  Etching

race 4    average clarity

5  Sass Machine   just popped her lifetime best and it was her 1st ever in a route race.......and today we get a rider upgrade and the Morey/Desormeaux combo have won 2 of their last 3 with the other hitting the board......hard not to like

4  Vegas Strong Baby   another who just fired her best and it was her 1st ever on conventional dirt.......Baltas must really want the weight off going to the bug boy as Prat rode in the aforementioned route race and he doesn't have a mount in the race........and bug boy has won 3 of his last 7 for Mr. Baltas

3  Noble Contessa   wide trip disguises a solid effort especially considering today's lower level......trainer has become a force in the S Cal race scene about might keep things rolling with this thee year old filly

race 5    above average clarity

3  The Hunted   on the right end of the learning curve and today this Baltas four-year old gets one heck of a rider upgrade....that and Prat should get a very nice trip stalking a couple of speed horses while saving ground.........seems like the best horse and with the best anticipated trip........that'l do

7  Avalanche   fits well at today's level and his only win came on a yielding turf.......still he might need more pace than anticipated to get up in time from his far back early position

5  Oscar Dominquez   last 4 races when up for sale at 50K or less have led to two wins & two 2nds......up for 40K today........Miller puts them where the belong

9  Trojan Spirit

4  King Caymus

race 6    above average clarity

2  Secret Spice   by far at her best on the Santa Anita dirt and her latest at SA led to one monster effort.........and Baltas gives his filly plenty of recovery time to keep her from regressing

4  Mo See Cal   (3 2 1 0) at the distance and like our top selection her latest is very strong for today's level.......and back to Van Dyke (after being absent for a couple of races) who won by 10 lengths on this filly the lone time he rode her

1  Starr of Quality   5 for 10 at Santa Anita on the dirt - (13 5 3 4) at the distance on the dirt - rider/trainer are 5 for their last 11 with 3 others in the money over the last 60 days.........a trifecta of impressive stats to consider

5  Just a Smidge

race 7    below average clarity

1  June Two Four   new 10 lbs apprentice might be on the right horse here as the only time this gelding raced route to route off of short rest (12 days) he won by a dozen lengths and ran his best ever by far.......route in last and route today.......and you guessed it - short rest - as in 12 days.......how about one more 12 as in another dozen length win

5  Builder   dangerous route speed and that might be especially so with the cut back in distance for today.....trainer is still looking for his 1st win for the meeting and might get it here

8  All I Can Say   gelding definitely has the ability/numbers to win at today's lower level but he tends to find trouble or races wide and he draws the other most post......he likely needs a clever rider from his new jockey or a track with an outside condition

6  Count Hu

3  Roaring Fork

race 8    average clarity

5  Leader of Men   12 for 35 win with the MSW to MC move for Simon Callaghan......and 71% in the money........good overseas rider is still looking for his 1st win at the meeting but most of the runners he has been aboard for Callaghan have been live

3  Blame It On Kitty   nice move forward in 2nd lifetime start running approximately par for the level on a grass course rated "good".......good or softer today

1  Lil Sydney   not much support at the windows for this Glatt colt in his turf sprint MC debut which was down the SA hill grass course.......ran evenly .........gets a switch to the meets top gun........blinkers on and a decent post.......might have always been pointed for this race

7  Frozen Money

10  Seven Oxen
