Santa Anita for Thursday 4 April 2019

Crazy very late change for the races down the hill today which are races 1 and 8.

Tremendous 11 race card on Saturday at Santa Anita with not one claiming race carded. There are 7 Stakes races which includes three Grade 1 races, one Grade 2 and one Grade 3.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

Late surface change to 6 1/2 on the dirt

8  Play Money   three-year old colt was pounded at the windows in his MSW debut but broke poorly and then rushed to the front and predictably tired late.......new jock today in Bejarano who is coming off of a good weekend........might snatch the lead this time if he breaks better from the metal monster

11 AE   Appreciated  trainer is quietly having a decent SA meeting and Becerra has a shot to add to his win total here with this colt who ran well in his MSW debut albeit on the hill........good drills prior to his debut and good works since his debut on the SA dirt.......seems like a nice Cal-bred

4  General Mo

9  Gooch Express

5  Sir Eddie

1  Unusually Handsome

race 2    average clarity

3  Monydontspenitself   toss out last as he likely disliked the off going........race two back he made a premature early 2nd turn move and still ran 2nd at two claiming levels higher than today.........and he appears sharp in the a.m.

9  Run Macho Run   blinkers on this Hollendorfer runner today and an improved work showing hinting the equipment change has improved his five-year old......and drops one level.......hard not to like

4  Baby Bear's Soup   gelding is capable on or off of the lead giving the bug boy options.......beat our 2nd choice in his latest race......continues to train like as if he has held form.......not out of the win picture by any means......pun intended

6  Burn Me Twice

5  Little Scotty

race 3    average clarity

7  Palaleo   gelding has only been on one fast track in four lifetime starts and it stands out as his best to date......sharp 5F near billet drill put in just 6 days ago.......gets 1st time Prat......appears to have the best early speed in the race.......a superfecta of positives to make him top pick

1  Red Valor   blinkers off and races as a first time gelding today........and just what you want to see as a handicapper as in vastly improved work-outs.......should be a price

2  Drink   race 2 back fits well but his latest does not.......but he might have disliked racing off of only 17 days rest........plenty of rest today to mount a rebound.........if he does he fits just fine in this spot

5  Railman

race 4    average clarity

6  Keystone Field   lone start was way back in November of 2017 in a dirt sprint where she ran fairly well.......not sure how she trained prior to her start but my guess is not that hot as she went off at 9 to 1 and with Prat up.......Prat is up again but with a very strong work regiment for today's 8F grass race.......colt has a solid turf pedigree

5  Caribbean   Shirreffs has had a dynamite SA meeting and he sends out a five year old maiden who exits two straight heats where getting beat by 9 3/4 & 7 lengths still worked out to be close to par efforts.......switches to the turf today which he owns a good pedigree for........not crazy about the 1 for his last 35 on the turf Blanc up or might have put on top

1  Lomu   decent turf sprint debut and he likely will handle the two turns of turf.......rider has been a little chilly on the turf especially considering all the good mounts that he has been getting........trainer has been a little chilly as well........still this gelding should be a major player

2  T Bones Trick

3  Hackberry

race 5    average clarity

6  Smart Rachel   race three back was her lifetime best which was run off of 3 months rest.......races off of 2 1/2 months rest today.......steps up two levels but if she races like I think she will it might not matter

2  Todos Santos   very significant rider upgrade today for this mare who really appreciates the SA surface but has had multiple races where she has had trip trouble.......hope Bejarano makes the difference

7  Cinnamon Twist   Jorge Periban is quietly having a solid SA meeting (20 3 6 9) at last count and part of his success in not being afraid to lose a given horse on the drop in claiming price........filly ran for 16K in latest and ran 2nd.....in for 10K today

5  Blooming Hannah

3  Dragon Flower

race 6    average clarity

3  Urban Light   lifetime two best races which were run in Ireland were the only two times this colt ran at 7F or further......so with that in mind lookout if this youngster's last his 1st in the USA was nothing more than a sprint tune-up for D'Amato and company

1  Vantastic   lifetime best and a fit here was the only time this colt ran at today's one mile turf distance.......and back to money Mike Smith who rode in the aforementioned one mile race......should be in the hunt from the get go saving ground.......such a deal

4  My Mandate   sharp sprinter tries a route for the 1st time and as the most likely leader in the race and with the rails 30 feet out........and.........the 30 foot position has a better shot at favoring route speed than all of the other turf rail positions......dangerous sort

6  Rijeka

7  Forestation

race 7    average clarity

5  Friday's At Shady   brutal MC20K debut more than warrants his step up into MC50K.........three year old colt broke about 4 slow and then ran very wide on a rail bias day and still managed to close fast late.......gave him 10 lengths of trip trouble and he only lost by 3/4's of a lengths.......Fuentes gets to make amends for a trainer that he has won 4 of his last 10 mounts for in Bonde

10  Pig Iron   nice improvement in his last with the blinkers put on for the first time........like our top pick he steps up from MC20K to MC50K........still he might need to build on his improved effort........fits solidly if he does

1  Hard to Come Home   gelding has caught some stout race times (for the level of racing) the last two chances he has had to race on the dirt........trainer Cliff Sise is starting to wake up from the doldrums including a nice 8 to 1 daylight winner as our top choice on Sunday

3  Sea's Journey

8  Indi Luck

race 8    below average clarity

Late distance change to 8 furlongs on the turf

6  Thalia

10  Hot On the Trail

1  Moonshine

3  Square Peggy

2  Wandering Patrol

4  Drop the Mic
