Santa Anita for Friday 5 April 2019

Tremendous 11 race card on Saturday at Santa Anita with not one claiming race carded. There are 7 Stakes races which includes three Grade 1 races, one Grade 2 and one Grade 3.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

5  Etching   tepid top choice and then some........sprint-route-sprint scenario and blinkers go back on and with improved works showing......should have good finishing power coming off of a turf route

4  Beyond Pleasure  filly sure works well in the a.m. but has been somewhat disappointing in the p.m........but for the 4th straight race she draws a top echelon rider.........might be now or never for this filly to carry over her a.m. ability to the afternoon

3  Lil Respect   Sadler is quite dangerous when he claims a mid priced maiden claimer for the turf......only race on the grass was in a sprint and wasn't bad considering it was her MSW debut......next start in a two turn dirt race was decent enough.......should be in the mix from the get go with a 7 lbs bug boy up.......dangerous sort

6  Daybreak

1  Roses and Candy

race 2    average clarity

5  Kidmon   right distance and track for this five-year old gelding........(3 1 2 0) at SA racing at 5 1/2 or 6 furlongs on the main track........appreciates ample time between races and Sadler shows patience and gives it to him

2  Concur  seems best sprinting on main track surfaces.....back to Prat who knows this gelding well........drops to the lowest level of his racing life......and maybe more importantly this fellow won the only time he was up for a tag

3  Bless His Heart  big step up today but he has an impressive work tab......and he might be able to get loose on the lead in this spot......my guess is that he will get awfully brave if he does get a clear lead

race 3    average clarity

(race has been moved to the main track for safety reasons)

7  Miss Ricochet   trainer is ever so dangerous with speed sprinters coming off of layoff........five year old mare was last seen on 3 June.......lifetime best and a fig that should handle today's foes was off of a 8 month hiatus.........last race was 10 months ago.........should have a green light today

6  Our Romance   decent MSW dirt debut running 2nd but in a final time that isn't anything special......but with 3 works following her debut on Feb 28th she likely will move forward this afternoon........we shall see if that is the case about 2 p.m. pacific time

4  Into Rissa  decent improvement in her latest and solid a.m. work since........seems to have a shot at even better today.......decent post and her jock Joe Talamo knows her well-being up for the majority of her career races

12 AE  La La Land

1  Style Award

race 4    average clarity

5  Dyf   one for one at SA and it was also the only time Prat was on his back........brutal trip on the lawn in last hides an effort that is better than par for today's level........and he shows some signs of being better on the dirt than the turf

3  Ack   speed route colt ran a race in his latest that fits......and today he gets the ever dangerous on a front-runner jock in Maldonado

2  Rockandahardplace   seems best at SA on the main track and also best at today's one mile distance.....that and he might feel awfully good racing off of two straight grass races......we shall see

race 5    average clarity

6  Out of Balance   solid race 2 back at today's 9F turf distance especially for a December two old year.......carries 4 lbs less today and on average she should be about 2 or 3 lengths better on physical growth alone over the 3 months time.......Prat stays put.......fits well

3  Decorating   nice move forward in latest and he showed he can handle running as far as 9F with a fast closing 3rd 2 races back......Talamo wisely stays put

1  Fashion Island   very dangerous trainer in Richard Baltas when he takes over the training duties of a distance grass horse.......he has done well with Chad Brown and Bill Mott stock.....so you would surmise he has a significant likelihood of improving a low win percentage trainer in Anna Meah

4  Sunny Dale

5  Coldwater

race 6    average clarity

2  Majestic Diva   seems to have the best shot of finishing well in this field at today's extended sprint distance of 7F........race two back at 7F and at today's level is solid and somewhat disguised by stalking the lead on a slightly dull inside

6  Dannie Joe  versatile sort has shown she can win with or without the lead.......that and she has been placed realistically at 12,500 following a 25K nw2 conditioned claiming win.......3 very reassuring works.......hard not to like

7  Gia Lula  seems to appreciate a deep SA dirt and it couldn't have been any deeper yesterday.......placed as third choice mostly because she shows signs that she might flatten out running at 7F

1  Duranga

race 7    average clarity

2  Manhattan Up   on the right end of the learning curve and his latest at one mile is very strong and his lifetime best......and in the past he has handled today's 6F distance very well........colt will likely have enhanced endurance when push comes to shove in the late stretch today coming off of a solid route race

5  Savagery   has only run once up for a tag and he won by 11 lengths that day..........up for a tag today .......7F looks like a good fit......very dangerous Peter Miller colt

4  Bump Bailey   double barrel action from the Miller barn as he also trains our 2nd ......solid winning MSW debut but it was on an off track........so the question seems to be will he run as well on a fast SA surface today.......maybe rated too low if he does

race 8    Below average clarity

3  Vangilder   solid better than par effort/fig in a one mile dirt race in his latest which was his first race since transferring trainers and tracks in a one mile dirt race.......1st on the lawn but is bred OK to handle.......Desormeaux wisely sticks around.......like his chances if this colt does take to the sod

2  Mo Bob   3 of 5 lifetime starts fit OK here including his latest which is arguably the best of the 3.......good post and a jock in Gryder who is mounting a good comeback in S Cal........hard not to root for the nice guy who I enjoyed sitting next to many years ago at the Caton Metzler - Doug Bredar wedding in Chicago

1  Push Thru   there is the gimme/go and if you really want a price there is the gimme/gimme/go go go ........some signs that might be the case here for this Freeman four-year old gelding

8  Union Rebel

6  East Grand
